Bianchi In Rome For Lazio Medical

Lazio are just hours away from signing Rolando Bianchi, and could also close a deal for Cristian Zaccardo in the coming days, according to reports in Italy.

Bianchi

The Biancocelesti are in desperate need of some acquisitions in this month’s transfer window after a simply disastrous season thus far.

President Claudio Lotito has been blasted for not making enough investments in the summer, thus resulting in the club languishing in 14th place in Serie A, just two points above the relegation zone.

The first high-profile transfer that is expected to be completed is that of Manchester City’s Rolando Bianchi.

According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Bianchi is expected in Rome for a medical this afternoon, and if all goes well as expected he will then sign for the club.

The 24-year-old will pen a five-year-contract, worth approximately €1.5m a year. He will originally only be on loan until the end of the season, when Lazio will then pay €12.5m to complete the deal.

Bianchi only moved to the Premiership from Reggina last summer, however he has struggled to settle in England.

He has only been used sparingly by manager Sven-Goran Eriksson and is said to be desperate for a return to his homeland.

Zaccardo

Palermo defender Cristian Zaccardo could join him in the next few days, after reportedly being given the green light to leave by Rosanero President Maurizio Zamparini.

Zaccardo, who can play at right back or in the centre, has won 17 caps for Italy, and is best known for the comical own goal he scored against the USA at the World Cup in Germany in 2006.

Man City misfit Bianchi joins Lazio on loan

Rolando Bianchi has joined Lazio on loan from Manchester City until the end of the season with a view to a permanent move.

The 24-year-old Italian striker only joined City from Reggina in the summer but has struggled to make an impact, despite scoring in the opening-day victory at West Ham.

City confirmed the move tonight on their website, indicating the forward will be available to the Roman club for this weekend's Serie A fixture against Torino.

Bianchi signed for City for £8.8million but has not settled at Eastlands, scoring four goals in 19 league appearances and often finding himself behind Emile Mpenza in the pecking order at Eastlands.

Lazio spokesman Giacomo Mazzocchi earlier told said: 'There are still all the practicalities left to sort out, such as the medical and signing the contract, but the deal should be completed today or tomorrow.'

Lazio are 14th in Italy's top flight, two points clear of the drop zone.

Bianchi told the Italian club's official website: 'I had a couple of other very interesting offers but I chose Lazio for my future and because I wanted to be valued in a very great team.

'It was a choice that I thought about and thought about again so now I am sure that it is the right one and the future will prove it.

'First I will have the opportunity to play and, moreover, I will be happy.

'I was pleased to meet the other Lazio players. I have the impression that they're a very united group, which is right when you want to build something solid for the present and the future.'
