State Team 2008

Post by Left Right Out »

Someone told me the other day that Eric Norman had contacted him about the State Amateur team and said they are playing in an upcoming tournament involving Adelaide City, Campbeltown and others. Is this correct?? Could it be the Pre Season tournament that Adelaide City are running?

Can anyone confirm? Has anyone else been contacted about availablility?

That will certainly be interesting. Who was the bloke they contacted LRO? Surely they would have to go for a bit of youth?

Colossus: One House

Costa: One Lunch

Oh and add in

Colossus: one photo and one letter from his "attorney".

Interesting to see if clubs will happily release players to play in this cup.

Last thing we need is 3 of our best players going down injuried before the season starts.

Release players :?: :?: From what :?: :?: Players this time of the year aren't contracted to anyone. If they want to play they are welcome to.

You dont think clubs would put a bit of pressure on the players if they didn't want to play in a nothing tournament?

All clubs and coaches are different and some might want players to be involved

There are sheep stations at stake here.

Sure the league would let the clubs know that they are asking certain players as an act of good faith. We at least got that for the Tassie games

this is not the actual state team that went to tassie cause i spoke to some of the older players and they never got an invite ,so i would say must be an under 23 or close to, so it is not a true indication on how strong the state team is. in tassie they matched it with the tassie federation state side , so playing club sides in adelaide would of been a very good test to see the differance

I've seen some Amateur players who would definitely be committed !
No really, there isn't that great a difference in commitment levels, maybe expectations !
When I did some pre-season training with Federation Clubs it was only 2 nights a week (it may be different now ! )

Different training days.
Like going out Fridays. (and Saturdays, and Sundays )
Easier to transfer (no one owns you).
Like bigger crowds. :)
Like playing with their mates, or with the club they started with.
Not so dominant egos.
Might work Saturdays

I can't think of anyone in that squad that was under 23. Robbie Greenwood and Jonesy would of been some the youngest and they are about 25-26. Drago, Scalzi, Reeves, Fuda, Rick C are all on the other side of 30

I think young Rooney 10 would have to be the youngest in the state side at 22!

How will they select this State Team, esp as most players would have even started pre-season with their own clubs so they wouldnt be registered players and might not even be at the same club as last season or even playing anymore!

the trip to tasmania was end of season, which is different as the players were still with a club technically, so how do you pick a player if he doesnt even know if he will continue for 2008 or not yet.

the best thing would be to select younger players in the Amateur League (plenty of them who are decent) so a squad of 20-26/27 yo should make up the sqaud, waste of time putting some of these older players in their mid 30s up against quicker young fed teams.

Ok its now the 22nd of January and according to the FFSA Website the first Game the State Amateur Team are playing is against Campbelltown on February 7th (Thursday).

So Again I ask "WHO IS IN THE SIDE" theres not really a response on this Forum and the guys I know some went to Tassie some didnt have either declined or havent been contacted.

I understand its early and some teams are either not training yet or only just beggining.

So why did someone enter the side into the Competition?

It will be embarresing if the team doesnt get off the ground.
