Lippi: Italy Could Win Euro 2008

Marcelo Lippi feels that his successor, Roberto Donadoni, can lead Italy to their second successive title as they prepare to take part in Euro 2008...

Marcelo Lippi believes that Italy can go all the way at next summer's UEFA European Championship finals in Austria and Switzerland.

The veteran boss, who won the World Cup with the Azzurri last year, remarked, "This Italy squad comprises fantastic players who haven't given up their hunger for victory.

"It is only right that they're in the Euros. Indeed, they could quite possibly go on to win it."

Italy scraped past Scotland at Hampden yesterday, shattering the hosts' 100% home record in qualification and, moreover, sealing Italy's place in next summer's tournament.

With France joining them, a replay of last year's World Cup final could be on the cards, but one player who won't be reprising his role is Francesco Totti.

The Roma strikre has effectively retired from international football, but still keeps the Azzurri in his heart.

"I salute the entire squad and I am very happy for them," he remarked, although he once again refused to state whether or not his international retirement was permanent.

"I also want to praise my teammate Christian Panucci for scoring the crucial goal."

Panucci's last-minute winner sealed qualification for Italy after a tough encounter at Hampden.

There are alot of factors that need to go your way to win a tournament and that goes for any team not just Greece, however for you to say that Greece cant beat the likes of Italy, Portugal, France, Spain or Germany is a crock of shiiite really. I think you have failed to remember that in EURO 04, Greece beat Spain with ease during the qualifying stages, then we drew with them because we were again grouped together in the group stages of the finals, we beat France (holders at the time) in the quarters, we beat the Czechs (1 of 2 favourites at the time) in the semis, and we did what NO other country has done at any major tournament which was beat the host (Portugal), twice in 2 weeks on their home turf, how could you seriously sit there and say we couldnt beat the likes of these teams when we already did and have??? Like come on, be real for Goodness sake!!! In sport my friend, your only as good as your next opponent and in tournaments like this, that is a very true cliche

are you serious?!? if you look at the free-kick, no doubt the wrong decision, Chiellini was only trying to foul Alan Hutton to waste time, cos a draw was good enough for us... wen the ref made the wrong decision, you want us eyetalians to give the ball back and say we dont want the free-kick, playing in cup finals and the like, would you being a defender in that situation give the ball back in the dying seconds?
