Serie A on Setanta Sports
For all the people asking about Serie A:
Setanta Sports is finally resuming our coverage of the Italian Serie A. We kick things off this weekend with a LIVE double bill:
Sunday the 11th - Sampdoria vs Empoli LIVE @ 4:00 EDT
Monday 12th Parma vs Juventus LIVE @ 1:00 EDT
We will show a weekly highlights show every Monday @ 20:00. All times EDT.
SERIE A COVERAGE - Serie A rights for 2007/08 have been split into 2 packages with each team in the league assigning their home games to one package.
Package 1 (Licenced by Setanta Sports) - Palermo, Sampdoria, Livorno, Parma, Reggina, Siena, Udinese, Empoli, Atalanta
Package 2 (To Be Confirmed by Setanta Sports) - AC Milan, Juventus, Inter, Lazio, Roma, Cagliari, Genoa, Fiorentina, Napoli, Torino, Catania
Setanta Australia wishes to licence both packages and announce both at the same time. However, there is no time frame available for the licencing of Package 2 and so Setanta will deliver the games from Package 1 from now. Setanta will only broadcast Serie A in English language and wishes to make clear that games are offered to us with English commentary and graphics are at the discretion of the package owners and it is not possible for Setanta to choose which games to show each week.
With regards to Club Channels - this is still to be determined as the rights are held by the same people who hold the rights to Package 2.

There is no guarantee that we will get the second package but we do want it and we are trying to buy it.Scudetto 8990 wrote:yes I understand that but do you think package 2 will be "licensed" soon?
or does "not enough time" mean for the rest of the season?
There is also no guarantee that we will get any club channel programming, it does not come with the 2nd package automatically and needs to be purchased separately and depends on availability from the rights holders. We did have a conversation about Milan TV a few months ago but this stalled along with the negotiations for Serie A.
I would advise you not to keep looking on a daily basis to see if we have added the second package or an Italian club channel to our schedule because it may take months and there is also the possibility it may never happen.
We have managed to secure the rights to some of the Serie A teams so you will be able to watch Italian Football.

And it is probably better to watch Milan's away games considering their home formCaramelas13 wrote:Count me in if Package 2 comes out. Although i guess with Package 1 i'd still be able to see Milan AWAY games now and then when they play the package 1 teams. (e.g. Theyre showing Juve this week away and they're a Package 2 team).

Bloody RAI has gone up in pricing as from 1 Dec 07. I remember when i first connected to foxtel it was $9.95 per month. Now its bloody $19.95. Crooks
These things and the music concerts really piss me off. If they all just gave up a weeks salary rather than hosting these events, there would be no poverty.Setanta wrote:Also just scheduled:

Well their would, there will always be poverty. Even if you gave every person in the world a millions pounds, you'd still have rich and poor because the price of a loaf of bread would just go up to $100,00) a loaf.
So to Bono, Ronaldo and Zidane. Fuck off!!!
I have now climbed down from my soap box.
Antenna has gone up to $19.95 a month as well. What a joke...Caramelas13 wrote:I knowJuventino wrote:And it is probably better to watch Milan's away games considering their home formCaramelas13 wrote:Count me in if Package 2 comes out. Scudetto maybe you can start a petition of names of people who promise to sign up if package 2 becomes available, might help Setanta when it comes to their cost-benefit analysis
MUFCBoy not as exciting as actually getting the same Inter Channel as what's available in Italy but better than nothing. At this stage Inter's first game against a "package 1" team isn't until next year (Jan 13 v Siena) so other than highlights (which the net does fine) it doesn't offer much to me, looks like it only slightly better coverage than ESPN last year.
I'll wait and see for now. As more than likely RAI will be showing a game (or possibly the same game) at the same time. Damn I'm still having to put up with Italo Cucci (Italian version of Vince Palumbo)
Still green with envy at the coverage fox put on for the EPL
Bodo while your acting as a Setanta rep can you tell me what the picture quality is like? Digital picture or low band width?

I don't like lies. I have understood your market where sometimes lies sell more than truth. This is your life and I don't like it. I understand your work and I have to work with you, but the protection of my group is much more important than you

I will not consider thinking about getting setanta until Lazio is officially confirmed. not just Lazio but the cream of Serie A is in package 2.Milanista #22 wrote:Yeah it's in package 2 saying it is being confirmedLaziale wrote:no Lazio, no Setanta
RAI is good enough anyway, 5 live matches a week + 1 Serie B match.

Both picture quality & widescreen vary, as Setanta basically forwards to us what is being shown in the country of origin for that particular event.97 wrote:Bodø while your acting as a Setanta rep can you tell me what the picture quality is like? Digital picture or low band width?
Personally I have no problem with it, but I'd have to admit it's not as clear as the pictures we get on sbs, but the commentary is far better. One thing I have noticed that the music in between programs ocassionally gets slurred (a bit like then you stop a cassette playing at it's correct speed for a split second) but I haven't noticed such audible problems during actual programs.
As for being a setanta rep, I didn't plan on that. I never knew I could get it as 'stand alone' until recently... and I'd rather pay $15 for one channel of football than foxtel's overpriced package for a load of channels I don't need.
The variety is nice. Today I watched a French game, yesterday a Dutch one, the night before a German one.
