Platini critical of Wenger
AND more proof that Millwall are the biggest small club in the world.
Uefa president Michel Platini has criticised Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger and other clubs who buy players at a young age.
Wenger is famous for investing in burgeoning talent and developing youngsters into major stars.
But Platini is not a fan of his fellow Frenchman's strategy and said: "I do not like the system of Arsene Wenger.
"In France, Italy and Spain it is easy to buy with money the best players at 14, 15 or 16. I don't like that."
If my son is playing at Millwall and at 16 Manchester come in for this player then when will Millwall have a good team?"
Platini is keen for countries to give one of their Champions League qualifying positions to the winners of the domestic cup competition and Uefa will hold a meeting on 12 November to discuss the proposal, among other options.
"The leagues are not so in favour of this proposal but the clubs and the national associations are more in favour of this.
"But I am very open to everybody and what is good for football, not for me and my ideas but for football."

they are simply playing by the current rules! If they change, then wenger will find other ways to scout the best young players.
Most players would like to move to play at the top level, so what about the kid who has a dream of playing for England, but will not make it if they stay in the lower divisions!

I dont mind Platini's ideas even if it means Lazio never make the champions league again. he will make football across Europe more even over the next 10 years.
Eventually you'll see teams from eastern europe etc challenging to be european champions and will improve international football as well.
I'd like to see the Cup winners' cup back as well![](//cdn.jsdelivr.net/gh/twitter/twemoji@latest/assets/svg/1f609.svg)

1. return of the european cup in it's old state. A knockout competetion for the champions of each country ONLY. (how can you have a champions league where you can finish 4th in your deomestic competition).
2. Bring back the Cup Winners' Cup and see the FA Cup suddenly take some significance.
3. Limit of non "home" grown players in your side.
Oh and Pele10: Blatter - the most corrupt man in football FACT.

Agree. After all it is a European champions League, not a Wetsern European or even a top 3 champions league. It would be better for the whole competition if teams from Russia do well, Steaua Bucharest return to former glory and then even teams from Portugal, Holland, Belgium etc doing well.Laziale wrote:I dont mind Platini's ideas even if it means Lazio never make the champions league again. he will make football across Europe more even over the next 10 years.

They should aim to make decisions that are good for the world game as a whole.(A very hard thing to quantify)
Cup winners cup sounds like a good thing to bring back. Look after the fans and international football, and not just fill the pockets of Murdoch and the likes!
Less foreigners, but with a staggered phase out seems best! but gives chances for a backflip!
If the fans in England stood united and demanded change, it would most likely occur! Never underestimate the power of public pressure on decision makers!
This is perhaps why failure for England may be good for world football! Do we want 3 leagues in europe or one in each country!
A salary cap for foreign players would be a good start!
Do you think Murdoch will allow a reduction in foreign players in the comp if it means that less people in the world will want to watch the games? Who is going to pay Terry his 100,000 pounds a week then!
