Post by shorty »

any ideas of premier league team of the year - been a few surprises in recent years hopefully the selectors have their glasses on this year and pick the true talent...

First suggestion is...

I feel if anyone is going to take this "Team of the year" thing seriously.. I feel that a squad should be pick with EVERY player chosen in their correct position on the field!! there is no point puttin a team of 11 all stars if they all just so happen to be midfielders for example!! I just dont see how it works when just say a forward is put as a defender just because they are a good player but obviously not good enough to get picked over the forwards already named in their position!

yeah fully agree'd kirrals i think it happened with u a few yers ago - a forward got picked over you because of their name not their skill...
just like kirrals said - a player should be chosen for their chosen position..

its like leppa being chosen as a midfielder when clearly she is a goal keeper!!

so yeah - choose players for their preferred position not their name basically!!!

geeez kirrals we should be slecetoirs haha

Probably got most of them covered overall, depends how the referees have seen them over the season. Also how all the Premier league coaches handle 30 names when they are asked to pick a placed team. :)

Now i know this is off the topic but can one of you well informed ladies tell me what is involved in getting a womans team in a league
1. who many divs are there?
2. is it feds or e&d?
3. when are games played?
if you have the answers please pm me, i'm keen to get a ladies team together as our club looks after the junior boys with a number of senior side but the girls seem to vanish once they can no longer play in mixed teams, and being involved in coaching girls this year i'd be keen to coach a senior side.thanks for any help.

hey
nah fair question
getting a womens team up and running isnt all in black and white and could possibly be a slow process...

you need to contact the federation http://www.sawsa.com.au
and organise a time to meet from then on you will need to attract girls to play soccer making sure you notify them that they will, in the beginning be in the lower parts of the league meaning they are starting from scratch therefore start from the bottom...
the more games you win the higher who get promoted and in some cases you can promote yourselves so high that u end up in the top league "premier league".. in saying that being in premier league means you are expected to field a reserve team and at least one junior team...

atm there arent too many girls who would want to start from the bottom, unfortunately we are in the generation where winning is everything and starting from the top is an easier passage to that...
therefore having to explain tot he girls that they could possibly get thrashed week in week out is a bit of a toughy...

but good luck contact the federation and get the ball rolling...

Yeah but shorty Bulldog is talking about keeping female players on after they are no longer allowed to play mixed... If Bulldog is associated with E&D he's probably looking at 12 and 13 year old girls... He'd be putting in a juniors team not a low div senior team.

Bulldog the women's league is structured like this:

Premier/Reserves
Div 1
Div 2
Div 3
(For all of the above players must be 14 before the season commences to play - if you put a team into the senior comp you would start off in Div 3 and have to work your way up, and as shorty said Div 3 is fairly social)

then you have:

U17 A & B
U15 A & B
U13 A & B
U11 Hurricanes and Tornados

Mostly dont get advertised - occasionallly on http://www.sawsa.com.au
Otherwise, look at that same website, and there is a list of clubs and contacts. Contact a club or 2 in your area - I am sure most clubs are always looking for willing coaches, even the premier league clubs (which can have 7 or 8 teams.)
