with some players retiring, others past there best, what do u think a future socceroo line up:

Schwarzer: will still indicated has another world cup campaign in him.

Defenders
Neill: Will still be around and better off after this campaign,
Milligan: future captain for 2014
Beachamp: another 2 campaigns in him
Carney: established his future this campaign
defenders a major concern if much is coming through

midfield
Grella: came in injuried, and never hit the hieghts, still essential part
Breshiano: Will still be hungry to prove himself further at international level
Culina: still has plenty to offer
Cahill: say no more
Emerton: Right side is his for another campaign maybe 2
Kewell: I think show great character in this tournament, be a great captain on his leadership this campaign:
Troisi: Building nicely by qualifies should be close to make

Macdonald: champions league football each year will make him stronger
Burns: another 4 campaigns for him
Carle: Well everyone loves him
Bridge: Showed in Olyroos has a good football brain

anyone else like to add some names or the next campaign??? is for the future of football in australia was the Asian Cup an important lesson learnt on picking plast on past glory not on actual form?

^ Bouzanis

Its impossible to predict so far from the event.

If you look back at the 2006 squad and consider where the players were in 2003::
Culina was at little known De Graafschap, Cahill was coming off the bench for Millwall, Kennedy was playing amatuer status lower divs in Germany, Milligan was on the books of Northern Spirit!! (theres a blast from the past).

Players will drop off the radar and players will come outta nowhere.

Future prospects that might be in with a shot if we believe the hype: Spiranovic, Dilevski, Williams, Vidosic, Kilkenny.

Great call The Kop

Named some good future players, Patafta aint bad, no-one hard of Burns a year ago (not many anyway) more will emerge

lot of kids in Europe, with Aussie passports who may choose Australi s their choice after the last WC, and the promise of regular meaningful International Football and the competition in making an England side (or others)

Carney, what a joke.

If Ryan McGowan can establish himself you never know. Still got age on his side, maybe 2014 for him.

I though it kills me to say it, I can not see us qualifying for 2010, Asia is much harder then the Aussie Football Federation thought.

seen this?

Hey everyone, first post for me.
Carney, a joke? You have to be kidding me. The guy is in great form, you'd have to be with bayern munich looking at you! I think your mistaken on that on Yammy boy.

As for 2010, yes asia will be hard, but lets not be so pessamistic. You never know what can happen, no one thought we'd qualify for 2006 either.

Finally, in terms of goal keepers, anyone rate Adam Federici? I think hes on the bench for redding, but came on last season against Man U and stopped a christiano ronaldo shot...

Ryan Mcgowan could possibly make 2014. I assume if he is on the bench for hearts he could play A-league with ease....somehow i dont think he could and he is 19 i think

Wilkshire is a good enough right back!
Just because he plays in Holland and not the 2nd division in England  never gets the credit he deserves!

My list of Socceroos in contention

GK: Schwarzer, Federici, Bouzanis + ?

Defence: Neill, Milligan, Chipperfield, + ??

Midfield: Grella, Carney, Bresciano, Culina, Cahill, Kewell, Carle + ?

Forward: MacDonald, Burns, Kennedy, Bridge, Djite, Brosque, Kruse, Zullo

One or two from this list: Spiranovic, Dilevski, Williams, Vidosic, Kilkenny will be a regular Socceroo by 2010

All in all I agree that the defence is a worry.

I see no one has mentioned James Troisi just moved from Newcastle to some Dutch club for more 1st team football.

Oops, I had Troisi on my list - meant to move him from midfield to forward.

As for Leijer - I haven't seen enough of him to comment; the same for Patafta, Topor-Stanley. My limited list is only of the players I have seen, so no doubt there are quite a few omissions from my list.
