Looking forward to it.

Cant wait.

I wouldn't change the starting line up. keep the same starting 11 out on the park.

Australia always do it the hard way

heres hoping the thai game is just the kick start we needed if so i hope we can go the rest of the tourn without as much critism even if we still get cut short.
the japs are gonna come out all guns blazing after the world cup. maybe just what the roo's need a game they can go into with a little less confidence perhaps even underdogs and show they are on par with the world cup squad. fingers crossed :)

Why change winning team leave Lucas on the bench.

I thought Cullina didn have the best of games.

yeah the formation should remain the same, we have to play to our strengths which are in attack, lucas neill should be brought back, wikshire to the bench, he gives away to many fouls and a good team like japan may punish us on set pieces. that leaves emerton to push out to the right and i rekon aloisi to the bench and kewell up front with viduka. Aloisi and viduka are a bit to similar, kewell will be better as he is faster, able to run at defenders and take them on, drift out wide and deliver good crosses and also viduka and kewell have a better understanding of each other.
If in the next few days the defence can just work on positioning and awareness things at the back shoul improve. U could see the mis understanding beween players getting sucked inside and letting players get in behind them.
Culina and grella may also be adjusting as i believe australia were playing with them both as defensive midfielders protecting the back three so they too may be getting used to playing in these roles next to each other.

Arnold has to pick the team based on who can do the job against the Japs not on sentiment.

He will hopefully bring Neill back into the fold, provided he's learnt his lesson, as his experience is invaluable.

He was brilliant against them in the WC.

Kewell and Cahill should be used as substitutes as they both lack fitness and would not last the pace against the Japanese defence.

Aloisi should start as he likes to play against this type of defence.

Aloisi, still living off a penalty 18 months ago, hiddink only used him when australia was changing a game, not good to start for the national team, acutally not good enough to start for his club team. Second Division in Spain and they got relagated.

What all the Asian teams have shown is there ability to open teams up on the edge of the box. they all have a player or a couple of players who can play in tight areas. Australia lacks that, and to me Arnold thinks put the ball in the air to the big fella.

Viduka is at his best with the ball at his feet. Australia needs someone to be able to work in small spaces to be able to pick viduka with quick feet. Aloisi, just a battering ram. And clubless, funny that.

I will continue to say one man for Asia is Nicky Carle alongside viduka. quick, works hard and unlike aloisi, if you play it to his feet, he can actually control it.

Brescianno______________________________________________Kewell

____________________Carle

_________________________________Viduka

Beachamp unlucky to miss out, milligan has the speed to play alongside bigger defender like Neill. Grella and Timmy in CM, Kewell has to play wide. end of story.

Breshiano, on the right, but coming inside to open up space for Emerton to get forward,

Carle to just do his thing and create for the rest, and cause damage in those tight spaces on the edge of the box

Here is my lineup... a bit different but i think it will work...and judging by the form shown by Milligan in the Central role i wouldn't want to move him... I think on form the lineup below is our strongest. Position wise Neill has been caught out too many times in the Centre back role, put him in his more familiar righ back...

------------------------------Schwarzer----------------------------------------
----NEILL--------MILLIGAN--------BEAUCHAMP-------CARNEY
--------------------------------CULINA----------------------------------------
----EMERTON----------------------------------------------------KEWELL
--------------------------------CAHILL------------------------------------------
--------------------VIDUKA------------ALOISI------------------------------

What do you think?

it's good but how can you leave out Bresciano....he was a star last night. Apart from a few minor changes i would make i'd probably start like that. Maybe put Bresciano on the right and take off Emerton.
As much as i rate Grella, he has been playing terribly.

That team is a joke when you got players are struggling to be fit. Example against Thailand we could have been out because Arnold recognise when to bring on Cahil and Kewell. The line up will be similar ti aginst Thailand. Basically 3-5-2 will be a 4-5-1. The team will follow as:

........................................Schwarzer
..........Emerton.............Neill............Beauchamp.............Milligan
...................................Grella........Culina
.................Bresciano....................................Carney
............................................Carle
............................................Viduka

I think this will be possible line up when I was right about what formation to play against Thailand.
The reason for this changes:
 Carle plays his best football as a Attacking midfielder, like he did for Newcastle all yea.
 You can put Kewell on the left late in the game while you can Milligan central or defensive midfielder.
 Cahil can come on when the players are struggling with the heat.
 Alosi can come on late in the game when scores are tied like how Guus used his players.
 Australia must pick Carle for his ability and Japan had not seen him before.

Australia will win because there will a big crowd with itensity. This will make fill at home like when they beat Thailand in front of a full house.

I rate Carle but surely you wouldn't bring in a player with no game time into a sudden death 1/4 final? big risk

I wouldn't change a winning side.

Except for maybe Aloisi. He didn't really do anything but back chat to the ref.

From a neutral point of view I still think australia played rubbish. 7/8 men behind the ball for 60 minutes. If Thailand had a clue in the final 3rd then it would have been a different game altogether.

You need to lift your game against Japan.

We will need to be on our game for this one. Grella will need to put Nakamura in his pocket.

Aloisi

Big game and opportunity for us.
Dont need any passengers, only those who want to play for Australia and are prepared to die for the cause.

If we go down fighting then respect will be restored
If we go down whining about the ref, conditions, security etc then we will shame ourselves and possibly insult the hosts.

I have only made possible 2 changes. Neill and Carle in.
Neill in for expirence and Carle that he plays that position well.

But who would you take out?

I wouldn't change anything other than maybe aloisi. It worked the game against thailand.

Why would you change a winning side.

I would swap Alosi with Carle and Wilkshire with Neill.
Reason why go back to the old formation with milligan or Carney at LB.
