Do you rate Pele's opinion
Never been a big fan of his opinions since he retired, comes across as a FIFA puppet to me and I much rather someone like Maradona who tells us exactly what he thinks.
However I couldn't help post this quote from channel 4 considering how much it's been talked about on this forum.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is without doubt the best player in England, but that’s a long way off being the best in the world.â€

Never like his comment ..
and his prediction is ALWAYS WRONG !! I'll be glad to become his bookie if he want to bet on soccer !!
btw, if c ronaldo isn't the best player in da world, he'll be closed enough to claim that honour... pele seriously has some problem !!

I would rate Kaka' as the current world's best player no doubt, he performs at his best sometimes he doesn't play as well but when he is in form he is just absolutely dominant.
As for C.Ronaldo he is only good at playing on wing with a lightning quick pace and would play at his best alongside Nani on the wings and will become a deadly duo. The only problem with C.Ronaldo is that he hogs the ball too much and he should learn to pass the ball more often.

and how many did C.Ronaldo score in the world cup?!?!? Ronaldinho had a shit season right.... yet he still made and scored more goals than Ronaldo did seriously he did, check the stats!!!ronaldo07 wrote:not that shining as compare to previous season ..juventino_4_ever wrote:Still scored 20 goals for Barcelona this season.
and how many goals he score in world cup ?
I prefer Kaka over all of them, C.Ronaldos trickery and skill may be claose, but vision, mentality and ABILITY TO BRING OTHERS INTO THE GAME is so far behind Kaka's brillance its funny to compare the two... C.Ronaldo best player in EPL this season, defiantely but it does not make him the best player in the world... if he came up against defenders like Oddo every second week he would be crying regualrly. As ever another over-hyped pro-EPL propaganda bullshit by the world media.

personally I think it's all toss to say who is the best player in a team game. I thought Essien was one of the best in Germany 06 but while playing for Ghana he's going to get no credit, also doesn't help when he plays so far from goal.
besides, its obvious that Materazzi is the best player going around

You have to realise that Pele was the greatest player the game has ever seen (although many, including me, think Maradonna was a better all-round player) but he was born and raised in the slums of Rio.
He had very little education and his ability at football saved him from a life of poverty and crime.
His various business and polital forays were failures as his trusting nature saw him ripped off and used by so many people.
It was FIFA, mainly due Sepp Blatter, who restored his public image and used his place in people's hearts to promote the game, particularly in the USA.
He is a truly wonderful person and is deserving of all the accolades he gets but his views, by necessity, are tempered by his role as an ambassador for FIFA, and what they ask him to say.
His statements are prepared by FIFA staff and his opinions are carefully manufactured to suit FIFA's policy.
So don't read too much into what he says - it may not be what he truly feels.

pele played football in a time when that game was played at a much slower tempo and it was not as physically demanding. If he were young and in his peak right now he wouldnt even come close to being the best player in the world.
He always talks big players down saying they are not even close to being the best. It seems like he is comparing them to himself. Well i believe many players were and are better then him notably zidane, kaka, c.ronaldo, Ronaldinho etc etc.

Cristiano could be the best player in the world if he puts his mind to it and doesn't worry about the money or the press.
Granted there are some quality players in the world but they cant always be on their best game. This is where Kaka shines, when he has a bad game he still manages to create havoc.
Top 5 players in the world at the moment:
- Cristiano Ronaldo (Man Utd)
- Kaka (AC Milan)
- Ronaldinho (Barcelona)
- Lionel Messi (Barcelona)
- Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)
That is when they are on their a game

you just have to watch the CL final 07 to back up ur point... Kaka epitomises the phrase "give him an inch and he'll take a mile"Ronny7 wrote:Cristiano could be the best player in the world if he puts his mind to it and doesn't worry about the money or the press.

i respect pele for his achievements, but as far as his opinions go..... I wouldnt take the word of a FIFA lapdog who follows Blatter where ever he goes. He might have been the role model for youngsters when it comes to behaving, but Maradona is the one the developing players have to watch.
Ranieri will get Juve relegated
He's the reason I want to watch Lazio when I'm in Rome. My Italy side were always Inter because of Liam Brady (My dad is good mates with his uncle) but once the Lazio/Gazza thing happened, it was Lazio for me.LFTWNG11 wrote:Agree where is Gazza?!?! he was class!Hawkesy wrote:Point proven in Pele's list. Where's Gazza?
I'd have him in my top 10, pele doesn't have him in his top 125.
Well that and their strong right wing views certainly tie in with mine against the communist Roma anyway.
I also like Venezia as well, as my best mate lives there.
Look at Italia 90, Gazza was the best player in the tournament by miles.
