Ex-PSV president in amazing attack on Chelsea's Robben
Former PSV Eindhoven president Harry van Raay has slammed Chelsea winger Arjen Robben.
The Sunday Mirror says Van Raay wrote in his autobiography: "We sold Robben for £12m to Chelsea.
"I did the deal in London with Peter Kenyon. It was a hell of a transfer for our club and not least for the player himself.
"Robben was going to earn a fortune, £2.5m a year. Never in his life he had been earning that kind of money.
"We don't pay badly at PSV in Holland, but the boy was still multiplying his wages by a huge amount.
"When I arrived back home, our club were crowned champions in the Dutch league.
"I went to congratulate all the players in the changing room and I asked Arjen if he was happy. He was a champion, he'd had a great season and he'd got his dream transfer to a massive club in England.
"PSV had been very good to him. We co-operated with the transfer, because we did not want to block him at a crucial point in his career.
"Yet, we could have held on to him because he was still under contract for a number of years and there were lots of other buyers at a later stage.
"I was absolutely knocked back when Robben turned to me and said that he was not happy because PSV had promised him a bonus of a few thousand euros once he had reached so many appearances."
Van Raay, 70, who stepped down as PSV president last year, added: "I couldn't believe my ears. It was a clause in the contract which I did not even know about. He had done that verbal deal with Frank Arnesen a year before. He had just become a multi-millionaire and started to moan about such a little thing. He just kept moaning about his little bonus!
"I was so disappointed with him I walked away without saying another word to him.
"Robben really got me down that day. My wheel chair-bound son had just had a massive operation that week. To me there were far more important things in life. But to Robben it was about his money."
