Serie B Update: Napoli Make Great Comeback

Post by getborn »

The Azzurri came back from being a goal behind to win 2-1 against Frosinone…

Frosinone 1-2 Napoli

The game began with Napoli tactician Reja aligning a 3-5-2 formation with forwards Calaio and Sosa constituting the duo upfront.

Frosinone coach Iaconi replied with a 4-4-2 formation with Margiotta and Di Nardo forming the attacking duo.

Napoli took the lead just one minute after the start but the referee disallowed the goal due to Calaio’s offside position.

The Partenopei kept pressing until the 15th minute when Frosinone striker Di Nardo assisted and Lodi deflected the ball into the goal but Napoli keeper Iezzo was alert and saved the ball.

4 minutes later the Azzurri wasted a scoring opportunity when Calaio’ served the ball to Cannavaro who found himself in the middle of Frosinone’s goalkeeper area but his shot ended wide of the goal.

The last scoring chance in the 1st half came on the 34th minute when Napoli midfielder Amodio made an assist and Calaio’ took a volley but the ball ended way above the crossbar.

The 2nd half began with the hosts pressing towards the opponent’s half but Frosinone stood up bravely against the attacks by the Partenopei and on the 17th minute the home club took the lead with a header by forward Castillo.

Napoli tactician Reja then took repairs and inserted Brazilian striker Pia’ and this turned to be a very successful switch as on the 22nd minute the newly entered forward built up the action to the equalizer.

Pia’ outplayed two defenders and passed the ball to countryman Sosa who fired a shot on goal and scored.

On the 29th minute, Frosinone almost re-took the lead when Slovenian striker Dedic fired a precise shot but the ball hit the post.

Afterwards, the home club enclosed itself in its own half and Napoli carried forth attacks against Frosinone’s rearguard.

One minute before the final whistle, Napoli midfielder Trotta closed the match as he scored a beautiful goal which nailed down the final 1-2 result in favour of the Azzurri.

This was an important victory for Napoli who have leapfrogged Genoa and now occupy the 2nd position in the standings with one point ahead of the Grifoni and 7 points behind Juventus.

Goals: Castillo (F) 17', Sosa (N) 21', Trotta (N) 88’

FROSINONE (4-4-2): Zappino, Carbone, Cannarsa, Pagani, Bocchetti, Fialdini, Perra, D'Antoni (Zaccagnini), Lodi, Di Nardo (Castillo), Margiotta (Dedic). (Chiodini, Ischia, Di Venanzio, Galasso).

NAPOLI (3-1-4-2): Iezzo, Maldonado, Cannavaro, Domizzi, Amodio (Pià), Grava, Montervino, Bogliacino, Savini, Calaiò (Trotta), Sosa. (Giannello, Rullo, Sosa, Garics, De Zerbi, Bucchi).

Referee: Girardi di San Donà di Piave.

If Napoli want to do well in Serie A next season - sack Reja at the end of this season. He's an average manager at best, and rely's on individual brilliance to cover up tactical blunders.

Reja does some mind-boggling things at time - leaving Pia out of the starting lineup after he played a blinder last week was crazy.

Napoli have already been reported at looking at another Manager if they get in Seria A.

You have to make it first. Don't jump the gun. Second spot (and even first) is still up for grabs.

Last game of the season, Genoa v Napoli, that will be one for the ages.

How fricken great was the run by PIA on the left to set up the first goal.
The guy just did not give up.
And Reja left him on the bench????

Apparently Rumour has it that, Lippi will be taking the napolitani in 2007/08 if they qualify for serie A???????

Lippi is linked with every team. Juve, Chelsea, Inter, Milan, i'd not pay too much attention to that...for now, who knows, perhaps the off season will reveal Lippi's plans to return to coaching.

We still need to play out the rest of the games and win all home games and steal points away from home.
I desperately want Napoli to win promotion but its still early days

The thing is Pià can do much better, he's got lots to give, i remember his days at Ascoli :P . Its a good sign that he's starting to play like him old self again. Like his goal against Treviso  , now that was a goal.

Reja??? I remember him at the start of the year playing Bucchi and Calaiò, anyone can tell you they are too similar to play with each other. And Sosa, OK he's being doing alright this last month but he's barely are B player.

I really feel sorry for Bucchi because under a good manager he would be scoring goals left right and centre.

like when many nap fans claimed Serie B, too bad Avellino didn't know Napoli were supose to be in B. I guess thats the best thing about our game, you really never know til the end.

All they need to do is score goals, thats been their problem. The defence is solid with Domizzi, Canna's i have issues with. Last year with Parma he wasn't doing that well, and seems Serie B is more for him. Not sure if he'll stay for next season???

De Laurentiis has already promised Reja a chance in Serie A if Napoli are promoted at the end of the season - whether its a good choice or not remains to be seen. Besides a new coach, we will need new players. There is only a handful of players that are good enough for Serie A - Iezzo, Domizzi, Cannavaro (?), Maldonado, Bogliacino, Calaio would be definite starters.

I agree with most when we all say that were not quite sure what team Reja's going to put on the park from one week to another, home or away, tactical formations-

BUT there have been many games (im not going to go into) vs Frosinone where he has made a change/changes and Napoli have been able to sneak the equaliser or winner.

REJA might not be Serie A material but i think if the Vesuvians make Serie A they wont simply be looking at making up the numbers. Wether or not they sign some name players as i am sure that Napoli will be looking at strengthening their squad i think Reja deserves a go even if we consolidate a mid table place. Where does the Napoli board want Napoli to be at the end of the season and their plans will depend on what players they bring in and who will coach the biggets club on the planet.

Teams like Empoli / Palermo / Udinese / Atalanta / Sampdoria / Livorno / Siena sitting either high or mid table, the Neapolitans with a strengthen side and superior home record would match the likes of these teams.

Atalanta / Sampdoria / Livorno have lost only about 2 games this season at home but their away record has been dismal to say the least.

Napoli have more confidence playing away from home this season and coupled with their great home record should do extremely well for a club which in my mind will be playing Serie A next season.
