Re: The Ashes - 2017/2018
I doubt Australia will go for a draw, or be happy about it unless its an "england" type draw" when they're 8 or 9 down in fourth innings still 200 runs behind and time runs out or it starts raining.

No one said they would go for a draw.Bomber wrote:I doubt Australia will go for a draw, or be happy about it unless its an "england" type draw" when they're 8 or 9 down in fourth innings still 200 runs behind and time runs out or it starts raining.
The last draw in the Ashes at the Gabba was very much ADVANTAGE ENGLAND

So you'd be happy with a repeat of that?God is an Englishman wrote:No one said they would go for a draw.Bomber wrote:I doubt Australia will go for a draw, or be happy about it unless its an "england" type draw" when they're 8 or 9 down in fourth innings still 200 runs behind and time runs out or it starts raining.

At this moment in time, yes I would take a draw.Bomber wrote:So you'd be happy with a repeat of that?God is an Englishman wrote:No one said they would go for a draw.Bomber wrote:I doubt Australia will go for a draw, or be happy about it unless its an "england" type draw" when they're 8 or 9 down in fourth innings still 200 runs behind and time runs out or it starts raining.

However, what I would take right now could well be different to what I would take at this time on Monday.

Well if it hasn't then I would certainly either be taking the England win or wish we'd held on for the draw. Hindsight is 20/20Bomber wrote:If it goes that long (till Monday)

Re: The Ashes - 2017/2018
A little bit of rain about, small showers apparently. That could hopefully mean some cloud cover and moisture in the pitch. Looking at how green it is, I don't see that suiting starc - although the variable bounce could help both bowling teams.
Key men for australia are Lyon, Starc, Warner and Smith
Key men for England - Cook, Root, Ali, Anderson and Broad.
I'm going for England to win. SHOCK, HORROR!!
p.s. Still interested to see your mixed team

Re: The Ashes - 2017/2018
Combined Aus/Eng? I don't know enough about a few of your players to be honest, but it doesn't help that I'm not totally in agreement with the team Australia have selected - the one you opted for I couldn't argue too much with at this point in time (with Lyon in).God is an Englishman wrote:A little bit of rain about, small showers apparently. I'd have Lyon in as well, I'd still play Ali as a batsmen though.Bomber wrote:Combined Aus/Eng? Warner
Cook
Smith
Root
Stokes
Ali
Bairstow
Broad
Lyon
Starc
Anderson
Looking at that again, it does show how weak these sides are. Stokes at 5, Ali at 6... You'd want to bring in a better 5, drop Ali and bring from 5 down a spot. BUT who is there?

Stokes is in the squadBomber wrote:Stokes? He isn't touring (yet). I thought we were stuck with likely teams for first test, or at least current squads.

Ben Stokes at heathrow with his kit. Unfortunately, it was a flight to NZ, but he's getting closer.
