Liverpool news
Cole will return to Liverpool
June 5, 2012

By ESPN staff
Lille boss Rudi Garcia has confirmed Joe Cole is to return to Liverpool.

PA Photos
Joe Cole will be given a second chance to impress at Liverpool
• Garcia hopes for Cole stay
• Cole wants Liverpool chance
• Milan won't pay set Aquilani price
• Martin set to join Lille

Cole, 30, joined Liverpool on a free transfer from Chelsea two years ago during Roy Hodgson's time in charge but struggled to make an impression during his debut season at Anfield and was allowed to spend last season on loan at Lille.

However, new Reds boss Brendan Rodgers had indicated in an interview this weekend that he would consider bringing Cole - who is keen to prove himself at Liverpool - back to the club. "I know Joe well from my time at Chelsea and he's a wonderful talent," Rodgers told talkSPORT.

Garcia has now announced that Rodgers has decided that Cole will be part of his plans for next season.

"Joe Cole will stay at Liverpool," he told Canal+. "The new staff have decided to keep him. We will remember him very fondly as a player but also as a man."

Rodgers had also revealed at the weekend that Alberto Aquilani, who has spent the season on loan at AC Milan, may yet have a future at Anfield.

"I thought he was a really, really good player," Rodgers said. "Obviously he came to Liverpool and it didn't work out and he's gone back [to Italy] on loan. He's a wonderful talent, a terrific player. He might just not be able to settle, he might not be able to adapt to the country, so you've got all those issues and obviously sometimes you're not aware of that until you speak to them."

Does anybody think he still has what it takes to change a game the way he used to now?
Also interesting to see that Rodgers see Aquilani as a player in the clubs future plans....

our midfield could be pretty decent next season, with Lucas, Cole and possibly Aquilani coming back into the squad.
hopefully Hendo with a full season at the club under his belt will crack on and have a really good season too

Fixtures just came out:

3 big tests in the first 3 games at home. if we can make it to October with a min of 12pts I'd be satisfied.

They would want to chuck in a sweetener as well if they want our player of the season.

Adam Johnson/Dzeko/Milner are the three I'm thinking of, and I'd hazard a guess that we could.

It'll be a hard task for Rodgers to pick a starting midfield this year if none leave:
Gerrard, Lucas, Henderson, Cole, Aqualani, Shelvey, Adam, Spearing all trying to play central roles.

Unless J.Cole once again is moved out wide, but I don't think that's best for him or the team.

My line up if Brendan stays with the system he used in Swansea (and there are no personal changes):

GK REINA
CB SKRTEL
CB AGGER
RB JOHNSON
LB ENRIQUE
CM HENDERSON
CM LUCAS
AM GERRARD
RW DOWNING
LW SUAREZ
ST CARROLL

SUBS:
DONI
COATES
KELLY
SHELVEY
COLE
STERLING
BELLAMY

Oviously Carragher will be used at times on bench. With the amount of injuries Agger and Skrtel get he may play more than often. Would be good to see Martin Kelly used as a CB and Flanagan and Robinson given chances.

Dani Pacheco, Suso, Connor Coady and Adam Morgan could play parts this year, and given the right freedom to make mistakes and grow in confidence (the way Wenger and Ferguson bring players through), could be great for the future.

Signing Luc Castiagnos would be great if the rumour is true, could be next Henry... Similar characteristics, physical traits etc... and also failed to make an impact in Italy... Let's hope we get him and the rest of the Henry story transpires :)

Here's to Brendan Rodgers bring attacking flair and possession football to the next level at the famous Anfield YNWA

i think it would be even bigger than torres leaving if we sold skrtel. not because of the players status obviously but what it says about this regime namely the fact that we are still fucked and selling our best players to keep results mediocre. but since that wont happen, this is all just paranoia.

I think if we get an offer of 20m+ we’ll sell. He’s 27 with 2 years left on his deal. From this age value only drops.
But If Lescott went for 22m three years ago at similar age then I think we can hold out at least for 25 considering he’d be going there to oust him from his starting spot.

Had an excellent season obviously but I think Coates is more than ready to step up.
Add Kelly now who is a full international and should be at CB not RB.
Maybe we’ll be in the market for a replacement, K Papadopoulos of Schalke would be superb and half the price.

Don't think much of their new kit.

Admittedly it is the third.
