English commentators are wankers though, claiming last year was purely a building year for Arsenal. Sure we finished 3rd but we competed for the title!
clubs like chelsea, united arsenal and liverpool dont build or re-build...they are always there to compete. not so much liverpool of late

there's a rumour circulating some of the gooner sites that viera and metzeldar r going to sign season long loan deals
apparently viera was at the newcastle game and was seen at arsenals training grounds today
dont think there's anything to it but would add some temporary depth

Probably not much in it ey, unfortunately Wenger will probably use the Newcastle win as an excuse not to sign

now those would be two great deals. Yea Vieira was at the emirates with Silvestre vs Newcastle, Hopefully those rumours are true and the legend comes back and Metzelder who is a great defender comes over as well. Would really make my day even more than if we signed Xabi because Vieira is still even at his age >>>>>>>>>> Alonso.

But would Alonso go through a ronaldo or a Deco, early on in the game and intimidate them

Viera didn't play great for Inter last year apparently, but he keep winning trophys in Italy.

alonso doesnt need to, he'll just win the ball off of them. that is all that is needed. and possbly ping in a few from our own half, addin a new dimension to the gunners :D

i have been thinking about the repercussions and im not too fussed..

i mean this is a big IF, but if we get rosicky and diaby back from injury, we have the following midfielders able to play in the middle

cesc, diaby, rosicky, nasri, denilson, song, ramsey, djourou, bischoff

that is a hell of alot of central midfielders..

now i have always thought diaby is vieira's long term successor, and many others hope this, if we signed someone he would never get a chance, so what was the point of buying him??? , wenger knows more than us, and isnt stupid..

he also doesnt make the same mistake twice, i think if we get to january and things are not looking good (i think we can hold on until then), he will go out and buy, traditionaly wenger always does his bigger buys in january, and has previously stated he prefers this window as the market is more stable and prices realistic (as we can see by yesterday's over inflated prices)...

so have some faith guys, i think wenger has 1 or 2 tricks up his sleaves, plus remember, our players are integrated into our style of play, who says robinho, berbatov, modric etc will fit into their respective teams style of play asap?

Wenger also says he buys in January because it gives the player 6 months of time to get into the Arsenal lifestyle, he does this in hoping that the player will be ready come the next season

Wenger - Eboue is becoming a pass master

Arsène Wenger has praised the early-season contribution of Emmanuel Eboue - especially his final pass.

The Ivorian midfielder has featured in every game so far, either on the right or as cover in the centre. His manager believes the unsung 25-year-old was one of few players who held his own at Fulham and his overall contribution is getting better.

“Since the start of the season, Eboue has played well,” said Wenger. “He had two good games in central midfield. At Fulham, he was one of the players who was not disappointing and he had a good performance against Newcastle as well.

“He's a football player. Sometimes I play him, sometimes Walcott, sometimes Nasri [out wide].

“There was a little bit of frustration from the fans because they thought that he didn't always have enough end-product, but he has improved a lot in that respect. He has put over good final balls since the start of the season.”

how would your ideal gunner line up look for this season if wenger had actually signed some players

almunia
sagna - toure - mertersacker - clichy
nasri - cesc - yaya toure - rosicky
rvp/ade's - benzema/aguero

this would of been my 'ideal' line up
i feel gallas shouldn't be more than a covering player anymore and feel with the pace of a defence someone with pure strength and areal dominance would compliment it. could really see a good partnership between toure and metersacker, and he is also young exp and an international.
yaya would of been perfect for the midfield, he has top flight exp as well as international exp, hard to the ball, strong workhorse and can find the net when needed. wouldn't take too long to settle in with his older brother behind him.
i love adebayor and rvp but they dont strike me as a great attacking combo (maybe after a solid amount of games together it may come). but i feel a combo of ade's and aguero or a combo of rvp and benzema seem far more threatning. you add aguero's pace and ball work with ade's strength and work rate would be great, or alternativley the power and finess of rvp with athleicism and natural goal scoring ability of benzema.

Appiah: Deal Or No Deal?

Steven Appiah is keen to play in the Premier League, but the resignation of Alan Curbishley has put any move to West Ham United in jeopardy...

Ghana captain Stephen Appiah, 27, is currently a free agent but with his CV it will not be long till he finds employment.

Appiah is yet to play in England, but was eager to do so three years ago, but opted to join Turkish giants Fenerbahce instead. West Ham United were linked with the former Juventus midfielder, but the boardroom unrest may stall any deal.

Speaking to Sky Sports Appiah revealed: "There are contacts, there are talks - I can't say anything yet... I am not going to put people off, my agents are talking so I have nothing else to say."

"My dream is to play in the Premier League and with the help of God, I will realise that dream," he added.

Arsenal have let three defensive midfielders leave in 2008: Lassana Diarra was sold to Portsmouth, Mathieu Flamini left on a free for AC Milan, and Gilberto was transferred to Panathinaikos, but - Amaury Bischoff aside - Arsene Wenger is yet to replace them.

A move for Appiah ticks the right boxes for Wenger. He has a track record of recruiting talented African players, and Appiah is also a free agent - the only expense would be his wage.

In 2006 Appiah said: "No deal has been done yet but 50 percent of me is coming to Arsenal... I prefer Arsenal, they are my number one choice."

On deadline day Arsene Wenger was asked if he was planning any additions to which he replied 'No, but I am busy...'
cmon AW sign the cvnt.. this is your last opportunity to get a DM before its too late..

this is the beginning of a tough week. The 2 lancashire sides away from home sandwiched with an away UCL tie at Kiev is not going to be easy!!!

this will be a big test of the squad and see if Arsene has done well by sticking to his guns with his current squad
