mediocre you wish you had someone as good as him.

Damien martyn did the same and the convicts never went on and on about it.ozzie owl wrote:Pretty poor retiring mid series , any more more abandoning the sinking ship.
Surely mean right now?God is an Englishman wrote:Damien martyn did the same and the convicts never went on and on about it.ozzie owl wrote:Pretty poor retiring mid series , any more more abandoning the sinking ship.
Graeme Swann is a quality player and will be missed by England. Hard to think of a better spinner in the game.
Marto did it during a winning series though, didnt he?God is an Englishman wrote:Damien martyn did the same and the convicts never went on and on about it.ozzie owl wrote:Pretty poor retiring mid series , any more more abandoning the sinking ship.

And now here it comes, Swann takes a swipe at "those with their heads up their arses"Blueblood wrote:To me it's obvious the England dressing room has huge problems, no morale and it seems to be bigger than Clarke Hussey or Clarke Ponting. Flowers blaming Warner for Trotts departure was an obvious deflection to protect his own camp, maybe KP getting rushed back into the side ahead of Stokes etc. when all he gives a shiraz about is making enough runs to earn himself a spot in an IPL side might have something to do with it. Maybe Cook just doesn't have their respect, who knows, it will all come out in the wash eventually, just as it did with the Aussies.
SO TRUE, disappointed he's walked away and weakened the side but a great person none the less.Old Redback wrote:Very classy typical Australian response unfortunately ^
Swanny was a great servant of the game and played with a smile on his face with an attitude that he was thankful for the opportunity - many could learn a thing or two from his attitude and approach to the game. Added to that he tore opposition sides - including Australia - a new one on more than a few occassions.

do you really not see the hypocrisy? why am I no t surprised.Bomber wrote:Marto did it during a winning series though, didnt he?God is an Englishman wrote:Damien martyn did the same and the convicts never went on and on about it.ozzie owl wrote:Pretty poor retiring mid series , any more more abandoning the sinking ship.

Swann will be remembered though, probably for his last over in test cricket more than anything.![]()
Anyway, two down, how many more before tour's end?
So much for the "brave lions" tag. Too hard, walk away.....
I don't think that is exactly true - more accurate would be to say that he retired when his team were at the top of their game.Bomber wrote:Marto gave it away whilst on top of his game. BIG difference!

If he doesn't like people making natural assumptions then he should name names instead of releasing such an ambiguous statement. It's only natural to assume those closest to him have provoked that comment. Hard to believe the behaviour of the opposition over a month or two is enough to force a player to retire.predator wrote:Wonder who "Those" areBlueblood wrote:

I guess he will now be remembered for making England the Laughing-stock of the cricketing world
There we have it. In your opinion, professional sportsmen should wait until they are no good before they retire. And that's why Swann will probably never be considered a true champion across the board.God is an Englishman wrote:Bomber wrote:Marto gave it away whilst on top of his game. BIG difference!
yes, that would be worse. Giving it away at the bottom of your game is understandable, at the top of your game INEXCUSABLE.
Hands up who thinks he was really meaning KP.Blueblood wrote:If he doesn't like people making natural assumptions then he should name names instead of releasing such an ambiguous statement. I still stand by my previous comment of the dressing room being in tatters. It's been written all over Cook's face since Brisbane. That's the problem. And while they keep pointing the finger at the Australian team I can't see any improvement coming.
Agree with Bomber. What better way to go out than go out on a high.Bomber wrote:There we have it. In your opinion, professional sportsmen should wait until they are no good before they retire. Interesting, as someone said when the mental defective Trott picked up his bat and ball and went home, if they were having a good series, would they have made the decisions they have, somehow i don't think soGod is an Englishman wrote: Yet because you're jealous and wish australia has someone even half as good you have to make a song and dance about it.
“He is a reasonable bowler, no doubt, but I would never put him in the top class of English spinners. Swann has got over 250 Test wickets because of the amount of overs he has bowled.”
Surely you're going to bowl less if you're a crap bowler.predator wrote:Swann has got over 250 Test wickets because of the amount of overs he has bowled.
http://www.news.com.au/sport/cricket/gr ... 6789204097FRESH from his parting shot at his own team, Graeme Swann's gran says she blames a "nasty" Australian side for her grandson's retirement.
Mina Swann told The Journal that she was saddened by her grandson's retirement from cricket and believes something "nasty" happened.
The 89-year-old had one Australian player in mind but just like her grandson took aim at an unnamed member of his own team for being "up their own backsides", Mrs Swann refused to name names.
"There is something gone wrong there and I blame the Australian players. Not all the Australian players, a certain one," she said. "When the team went down to Australia and that young lad came back, there was something going wrong then.
"I do not think they have been (made) very welcome, the team. He is not easily upset, there is something nasty happened."
"He was as happy as Larry. He adored his cricket. It is a damn shame, he has lived for that game, he has done everything for that game," Mrs Swann said. "I am very disappointed because that is one thing I look forward to. I will be very disappointed when he is not there."
