stop it, thats way to much common sense for this threadRandoman wrote:uggh i wish i'd never mentioned the possibility of advantage.....
no whistle = no foul = gomes fault. it should have been handball but it should have been a penalty before that anyway!

put his flag up a good 5-10 seconds after it happened...SpursOnTheRise wrote:The referee never signalled that it was advantage! He signalled that there was no penalty then just ran back. If the player doesn't know what the hell is going on and that happens as a Ref its then on you for not communicating the decision correctly and therefore should have been taken as a free kick. People keep saying the ref didn't see the handball, fair enough, BUT THE LINO DID and he put his flag up.
When a referee awards a free kick he blows his whistle. He didn't do that either.SpursOnTheRise wrote:Gomes:

"Even the linesman was confused. He told me he did not know what the ref gave.
"He said he saw the handball and told me to go back to the goal, that he would tell the ref what he saw."

In order to do so it is necessary to communicate with the players at all times, especially in situations like this one where obviously no-one had any idea what had happened, players, coaches or fans. I have no problems with the advantage rule when there is an advantage to be given, it's not like Gomes had quickly released the ball and we were on a counter, we stayed in the penalty area so no advantage whatsoever was gained, therefore when Nani put the ball in the net, the goal should have been disallowed for the correct free kick to be taken!

I'm pretty sure when you have 70,000 in old trafford screaming after a penalty decision it can be difficult to hear a whistle. The Fountain wrote:When a referee awards a free kick he blows his whistle. He didn't do that either.SpursOnTheRise wrote:Gomes:

he did communicate with the player... nani was the one that asked him wat it was, and the ref sed play on..... if gomes wasnt sure what was going on, then he shoulda asked the ref

and how does that support your case?SpursOnTheRise wrote:I've read that article before and Poll himself even says that he wouldn't have allowed the goal.

I can guarantee that Nani won't be popular on the return leg at WHL. Hope he's got private health cover.

It's not the fans. We're going to set Wilson loose on him. He gets booked every week anyway.
