We both lost to germany.

You beat a side ranked 25th, Drew with a side ranked 14th and a side ranked 30th.

We beat a side ranked 15th an drew with a side ranked 32nd on their home continent.

We beat a better ranked side than you at this tournament.

How did you go in the 2nd round?

because we werent gifted passage in by playing no name teams ;)

Either way, the Aussies werent expected to go further than the Group stage. The English always think they will win it - spend shitloads on a coach that gets them booted out in the round of 16.

Thats why its so funny.

In terms of expectations England grossly underperformed, I think if England had been in a group with Germany, Serbia and Ghana, they would have struggled to finish in top two.

The FFA has condemned the boorishness of Australian fans who peppered Royal Bakofeng Stadium with beer bottles during the Socceroos' controversial 1-1 draw with Ghana.

In a major embarrasment that some supporters fear will jeopardise our $45 million 2022 World Cup bid, two spearate volleys of about a dozen bottles were hurled on the pitch in protest at referee Roberto Rosetti's dubious calls.

There was also a physical altercation between two Australian males immediately after full-time, as well as reports of racial taunting toward Ghanian supporters.

The majority of projectiles were launched by a section of green and gold-clad fans in the upper western tier, with some hitting spectators below and another narrowly missing a ballboy.

The incident was the first of its kind at this tournament, leaving the majority of Australians appalled at the impression it might leave upon the rest of the world.

"We don't condone that sort of behaviour at any stage - no matter how frustrating the game may be," FFA spokesman Rod Allen said.

"We would urge all fans to be on their best behaviour. The FFA has worked very hard to stamp out anti-social behaviour and we'd expect our fans to do the right thing when travelling overseas.

"It's very unusual behaviour for Australian fans and we hope it would be a one-off."

David Gilbert, a doctor from Melbourne, described the scenes as "disgraceful".

"It was terrible, absolutely disgraceful behaviour and it made me ashamed to be honest," Mr Gilbert said. "I was embarrassed that people would throw full beers that could injure others."

Female fan Penny McElhinney from Sydney was also left red-faced.

"There was a mother who had to shield her child right in front of me," Ms McElhinney said.

"It was disgraceful because we're on show to the rest of the world and we're trying to have this tournament hosted in Australia."

But another supporter, Matt Hooper, sympathised with the extreme frustration that led to the bottles being thrown.

"We were seated in the same area as the bottles were being thrown, and there was plenty of angry people," the Brisbane 23-year-old said.

"I can sort of understand why it happened, although it's not a great look.

"I'm here with eight mates and most of them are rugby league fans that we convinced to come to Africa and support the Socceroos. That referee let the Australian public down.

"It's no wonder people acted like that, because how's the Australian public meant to get behind football when we keep copping decisions like that."

News Ltd reporters also witnessed a disagreement between two Australian men just after the final whistle, which threatened to turn nasty until calmer heads prevailed.

Another supporter, who did not wish to be named, alleged that Ghanian fans were called "black c...." by a group of Australians while celebrating the Socceroos' first goal of the tournament.

Nice to see how a country and it's supporters that once was so arrogant to even show up for the World Cup, have now become so used to losing that they take comfort in the fact that they played one game more than some other nation. All I read is we went further than this country or that country. Congrats great achievement, you must be really proud.

In the mean time real footballing nations take anything but lifting the cup as a failure and focus on why they didn't win it and what they need to do to win the next one.

Australian football has and will always suffer because of their ties to england.

I was in the middle of one of the groups who decided to throw bottles and a couple of half eaten Boer Wors rolls, interesting at the next game the bottles of beer were out and they served up plastic cups ... maybe should have been that way in the first place, reduce the temptation for the morons...

We were with the Fanatics tour group and it is sad to say that this group has the wrong name, about 15% of the fans are what I would call fanatical the others are just sit down merchants with no real passion, I agree that it takes all types to make up a crowd but they should really have done a better job of housing those who wanted to stand and chant / sing together and put the rest in the background somewhere...

Re bottle throwing, a couple of guys around me got told by myself and many others to pull their heads in .. .the two Aussie guys that nearly went at each other was a bump in the corridor that upset one of them who had been badly agitated all game and had tried to find a fight with several people.

Overall the crowd behaviour from all reports was far better than the average Cricket match in Australia and the police / security seemed quite well organised and not over officious ...

The racial stuff I did not hear , and if I had I would have gotten security involved, there is no excuse for that crap anytime any place...

Just thought I would put in some "eye witness" info guys.

Managed to get to 3 games and went to the Fan Zones most evenings. Didn't see one fight the whole time - which amongst thousands and thousands of drunk guys is quite amazing. The bottle throwing was stupid and in no way can be condoned. As with Povman didn't hear any racist remarks at all and wouldn't put much credit on a report that was annoymous and by 'one guy', someone may have said something, which is appaling but there certaintly weren't racist chants or taunts. For a reporter to go out of their way to suggest 2 guys almost had a fight in a crowd of almost 38,000 shows the lengths that reporters will go to, to discredit the game, just a shame the 'bottle throwers" gave them some 'real' stuff to report on

I also agree that there were a lot of 'non' Football, supporters in Green and Gold, however we would have had well less than half of the numbers if it wasn't for the cricket and rugby and probably AFL Fans that were there. Next time Povman go with the Green and Gold Army, whilst smaller in numbers they are the 'true' Australian Football Fans

I bet the Fanatics don't arrange trips to Qatar

They are more the 'sometimes Fanatics"

Good on ya Hawksey your faith in your English squad is admiral, did well in fact, probably overachieved in getting through to the 2nd round, you should be proud. Most of us Aust. supporters are a little disappointed in us not getting through to the 16. Hang your hat on your WC result, definitely on the right path I reckon.

Fact 4: The nation that Australia beat ranks higher than the nation that England Beat.

Fact 5: The English media described the group as Easy, and your lot were expected to romp the group stage, and they only just scraped in.

Fact 6: The Australians failure at the World Cup was nothing compared to the Failure of the English at the World Cup.

Fact 7: The team that came second in our group beat the team that came first in your group. Using your logic, Our group was much, much harder.

Would you like to argue those facts?

no, all good facts except for #6.

your failure was clearly greater, going out in the groups must be a bigger failure than going out in the 2nd round.
