Ghana 4
Germany 3
Serbia 3
Australia 1
Germany/Ghana draw - Australia win 3-4 goals
Ghana win - Australia win.

If Ghana beat germany then all we need to do is win against serbia.
If Ghana do not beat germany then we need to beat serbia and overtake the next best goal difference.
A 1-0 Germany result would mean we need to catch up 4 goals to get back to even GD with Ghana, go through on Goal Scored
2-0 Germany means only (only hahah!) 3 goals required
a draw means we need to beat Germanys GD which would be at +3 so we would need to win 7-0....
I think you get the point
So everyone put on your Black Stars outfit and get jiggy with Lloyd Owusu - we need a Ghana win!

Much better performance tonight, impressed with how they played with 10 men for 65 minutes. Holyman, hes become useful!! Few good performances tonight. Shame Kewell only lasted 25 mins.

Blatant red card and penalty, Kewell moves toward the ball to block it, if anyone doesnt see that they are blind. I don't care what nationality that ref was, he made the right call. At the end of the day blocking a clear goal scoring opportunity on the line with the arm is going to bed a red card any day of the week. If anyone is to blame it's Wilkshire, his defending was absolute crap, he even won the ball and just had to let it run out but he let the Ghana player win it back off him.

We have now been on the receiving end of four questionable but quite significant decisions in a row plus a dubious referee performance in our last five World Cup games.
1. Kewell send off - questionable if it was deliberate
2. Cahill send off - questionable decision - soft red card
3. Italy penalty in 2006 - proven to be a dive - questionable decision that decided the game and also allowed the eventual winners to continue in the tournament when they could have been knocked out.
4. Famous Poll incident awarding Simunic three yellow cards in one game - Poll sent home.
5. Australia v Brasil - German referee Merk was widely criticised for his very pro Brasil performance. Had followed up with another shocker in his next game and did not referee another game at the World Cup despite being regarded as the no2 referee in the World.
Just to show the injustice of it all - compare Kewell's handball to that of Vidic in the Serbia v Germany game. Vidic's was a quite deliberate handball - diving with an outstretched hand - penalty awarded and Vidic gets a yellow - Kewell could do nothing - ball was smashed at him from only maybe 4m away - he coulnt move if he tried - ball hammers into his right should and arm - penalty awarded and straight red.
Cahill sent off for a tackle from behind in which he attempted to pull out in game versus Germany. Lee Addy of Ghana clatters into Bresciano from behind - makes no attempt to pull out - a far worse tackle - gets a yellow card.
There is inconsistency in the decisions and the Socceroos always seem to be on the wrong end of the decisions.

agreed
defending leading up to the goal was terrible as you mention and it was a definate red
however, how Addy's foul wasn't a red is beyond me

Watched the hand ball again....there was nothing Kewell could do. Ball was hit straight at him and has hit him in the right shoulder - just below the shoulder joint.
Kewell's eyes were shut before the ball hits him. Basically he has put his body on the line and has been pretty unlucky.
The ball cannons away and goes out for a throw in from the sideline - shows how much venom the ball was hit with and also that the ball had come off a solid part of the shoulder.
In most circumstances this would not have been pulled up as a penalty - let alone a red card - it is one of those 1 in 10 decisions that happen every so often.
It is also not clear that the referee has full view of the incident - looks like his view may have been blocked by Lucas Neill - which could explain why he has made the mistake.

Nine times out of ten this would not be awarded a penalty let alone a red card.
It was not deliberate on the part of Kewell - ball was hit from such close range that there was nothing he could do. It was accidental. Having said that there was enough in it that occasionally referees will give this as a penalty.
It is always very tough when hand ball is given for balls that come off the upper arm. As a player it is quite bewildering when this happens because the ball is nowhere near the hand and so it does not feel like a handball.
The intention of the red card is to punish players who deliberately stop the ball going over the line - like blatantly using their hands in a goalkeeper like fashion. They are stopping a certain goal and replacing it with a penalty which can be missed.
Aside from that - it did not deserve to be a goal - the silly twat Ghana player has hit the ball straight at Kewell when he should have placed it either side of him.

tough on Australia, as as soon as the referee decides that it is a penalty, it also has to be a red card
Ghana still couldn't take full advantage though
they were expected to beat us with 11, they really should be beating us when we have 10 for over an hour
we probably had the better chances in the end, we were all over them in the second half, Chipperfield really made a difference

here we go again lets blame the eyetalians for the aussies demise, it was red simple as that he was on the line stopped the ball from going in deliberate or not, i feel sorry for harry but thats life, the boys can hold their heads up high coz they showed some real grit and determination BUT please lets not have a repeat of 06 whinging, again if those 2 midfielders had cleared the ball before the cross came in its a different ball game.

It was not a penalty or a red card! Don't blame the ref blame FIFA for this as they tell the refs the rules of the game must be interpreted different than from normal season games. I'm sure that in serie a that he would not give that as penalty. A handball is also from the elbow down!

Incorrect - it has to be deliberate hand ball.
