I bet ya if abramovich didnt fork out all that cash on players then chelsea and mourinho wouldnt have won the epl, especially 2 yrs in a row.

newcastle , tried ,failed ( finished 2nd one year) , now just mid table obscurity

I heard the 18,000 people who didn't turn up at Stamford Bridge, were in protest for this.

Nah not really, bunch of bandwagon supporters.

SportingLife.com from the UK have reported that Deschamps is the favourite to replace Hiddink...

while FoxSports think it could be Hiddink with the whole Abramovich funding the Russian national team connection

agree, didn't they just release a movie about the 10 year plan at chelsea
So Roman aint going any where and if he were to sell the new owner would need a lot of coin to purchase the club anyway so i wouldn't put them in the leeds frame.

The low crowd number must have stood out like a sore thumb, football is entertainment so the club needs a new direction.

This surely contributes Man U and Arsenals large fan bases across the world?

It seems that they expect success but also alot of attacking style from the new manager.
So would capello be a chance for the job given the circumstances of his real departure,
Would Lippi want to take such a risk and tarnish his managerial career,
Houlier didn't cut it at liverpool, and
Guus may be too busy with ru$$ia.
He did that by going to Inter

Luckily at Juve and with Italy it was restored again!

Big call. Don't agree either. Of course we will never know but I always thought the whining about the money spent was always taken a bit far. When you look at the squad that won the two titles, the big performers were the players that were already at Chelsea at the time. They didn't go out and put together a Madrid style team with massive named players. One of the biggest signings in terms of money was Essien, who was relatively unknown before coming to Chelsea.

the reason why we say that is, before Robben, Cech, Carvalho, Drogba etc came in you guys finished 2nd to the brilliant Arsenal team in 03/04....i personally think that if those players didn't come in when Mourinho took over you guys would not have won the title

Its been a bad start to the season and thi has pretty much fucked up our season....Sux it happens few days before the biggest match of the season so far against Man U,Guess Lampard will be heading off when transfer period re opens unless the Chelsea board offer a decent Pay Cheque...

Mourinho would be good as England Coach, knows half the starting squad well,Terry,Lampard,Ashley Cole,Joe Cole,SWP etc.....

I think the big call here is you saying essien was relatively unknown before joining chelsea.
Key word would be relatively. The French league doesn't exactly garner ass much press attention as in EPL, Serie A, etc. I'm not ashamed to admit that Essien was a bit of an unknown factor for me before he joined Chelsea, as I had never seen him or Lyon play. And even when he joined he wasn't half the player then than he is now. Not saying he was bad, just saying he is a phenomenal player now that does so much for us.

And yes I agree Cech, Robben, Carvalho, etc were a big boon to us, as well as Mourinho himself for the first season but I think it is a discredit to other players to say they are the sole reason Chelsea won the title. And when you look at the money that has been spent SINCE it really pales in comparison. My point in a lot of the stand out players from that season - JT, Lamps, Makelele, Gudjohnsen, JC, etc had been with the team since before the Mourinho era.

Grant set to take over at Chelsea

Avram Grant was at Portsmouth before joining Chelsea
Mourinho was opposed to Grant's appointment in the summer
Chelsea are set to name Avram Grant as their new manager replacing former boss Jose Mourinho, BBC Sport understands.

The Israeli, who was the club's director of football, will take charge alongside assistant Steve Clarke.

Grant will be confirmed as Stamford Bridge boss later today, BBC Sport's Garry Richardson has revealed.

The 51-year-old is a close friend of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and his summer arrival at the club came after opposition from Mourinho.

Mourinho told Grant not to interfere with team affairs but the Israeli's position was strengthened with a seat on the board.

Grant previously held the position of technical director at Portsmouth before moving to Chelsea.

He guided Israel to the brink of World Cup qualification in 2006, having also coached Israeli sides Maccabi Tel-Aviv and Maccabi Haifa.

606: DEBATE
Your reaction to Mourinho's exit

The appointment has been met with general surprise and former Chelsea player Pat Nevin thinks it will only be a short-term option.

"It's an absolute certainty to be a short-term measure because they can't get the man they want," he said.

"And the man I'm sure they want is Guus Hiddink. He's not going to be available until Russia are out of the competition at the Euros in 2008."

"If Avram Grant takes over the job in the mean time, and the Chelsea fans know that he was brought in and upset Jose, Avram Grant is going to be as welcome as Camilla at Diana's memorial.

"This guy is not well-loved at Chelsea. He is not going to last."

Another former Chelsea player Gavin Peacock agreed with Nevin and said Grant would need to work hard to maintain team morale.

"If you're bringing in someone like (Russia manager) Guus Hiddink, then you're bringing in someone of great repute, as for Grant, I don't know.

"I think the heart of the team will be affected by Mourinho's departure. It will be very difficult to get that team spirit that Mourinho managed to manufacture very quickly at Chelsea."

Meanwhile Avi Cohen, the chairman of the Israeli Football Association and friend of Grant, backed the move, although he too said it came as a surprise.

"Avram Grant is very successful in Israel. He won the championship with several teams and he knows football," he said.

"Even so it is a shock that he was chosen. He had said that he had a very good position at Chelsea. He is a very good friend of Abramovich and he believes in him.

"I'm not sure that he won't be successful more than anyone else. If he has the ability he can be successful."
