England on top after day one. Only saw the first session, but that looked a 400+ pitch to me, and barring any tail-end miracles, we will fall well short of that. I guess it will depend on how well we bowl/field.
Still seems fairly even to me.
I thought you said you can't evaluate until both sides bat.
Which would make it even then.
And hence I said depends how we bowl/field.

So Aussies team
Include Green & Hazlewood
Drop Boland & Murphy
With rain expected on friday to sunday, Poms are already praying to the Gods for a draw.
funny, but true

Poms will make 350 in x2 sessions on their way to 450 +

not far off at all, Aussies have made some really poor selection decision this series, field placements and tactics have been woeful, England will win this series 3-2 barring a miracle for the aussies,

That miracle could be Manchester weather. Sat and Sun not looking good and could save australia.
That's why England went at 7 an over in the middle session. I expect an early declaration this morning to give time to get a fair few wickets before the weather happens.

Horrific bowling and feilding combined with great batting made for a bad day for Australia

First day of the series that one team had dominated as well.
In a dramatic see saw series. Australia just blinked.

you know that plagarism is frowned upon.......
After 15 consecutive days of unimaginably tight and tense cricket, one team finally blinked.
Through the first three Test matches neither side had been able to truly dominate its opponent,
but yes.....Australia will be praying for rain, otherwise 2-2.....

The Ashes, 2023
4th Test, Day 3, Session 1 · (AUS leads by 2-1)
LUNCH
England 8/506 (96.0)
Australia 317 (90.2)
Almost 200 runs more in about the same number of overs.

England deserve to win this Test - they have comprehensively outplayed the Aussies.
Should be 2-2 heading into the 5th test next week @ the Oval.
My objective view on the series so far: (aware GIAE will argue objectivity because I'm an Aussie but that's ok)
Edgbaston
England made most of the running through the Test but were I felt were never really completely in control. The patience from the Aussies and ability to let the English batters get themselves out through the Test (particularly in the 2nd innings) set up a wonderful run chase. Test could have gone either way but the Aussies found a way to win late on day 5.
Lords
Australia made most of the running through the Test but were never really completely in control. The morning session on day 3 when they took 6-46 was what won the game in my opinion. Wonderful 4th innings knock from Stokes got England very close but again the Aussies managed to get the win.
Notwithstanding the stumping of Bairstow will bother most English people for years to come and did influence the result - I still feel that day 3 when they got bowled out early had a greater effect on the overall result.
Headingley
Was an even Test throughout - no team was ever in full control but felt that England always had a plan in mind from the start to want to be chasing around 300 and that they'd be confident to get it done. Match went similarly to the first test as in the end it could have gone either way but England found a way to win in the 4th innings much like the Aussies did at Edgbaston.
Old Trafford (hate the fact it has Emirates as part of the name)
England have dominated for 3 days while the mindset and play of the Aussies has been disgraceful and pathetic.
The batting in the first innings was timid and some of those dismissals were horrible.
England batting was excellent and was really only the 2nd time through the series (Edgbaston day 1 the other) where the 'bazball' style of batting really dominated the Aussies.
If there is any play over the next 2 days England should win and deservedly so.
The Oval
Whatever the series score - both teams will have a lot to play for and I really hope the Aussies can revert back to how they played in the first 2 tests - patient but smart, aggressive cricket and WIN the series

You're clearly fishing. Far too obvious.
Or you didn't see it and don't realise the own goal you're scoring.

Good to see the Aussies show a bit of ticker on day 4.
If only they applied themselves with the bat like that on day 1.
