How does the cup round work? Can a player play reserves and then sit on the bench for the seniors (As), or does it depend on whether the reserves win or not?
Is there the concept of being "cup tied" to a particular team?

Re: Cup round 2 draw?
10.4 Any player having played in a Challenge Cup round shall not be eligible to play in any subsequent Reserve Cup round during that season
10.6 “Played” shall mean that his name has been entered on the team sheets.
The only exception being that of the named reserve goal keeper. Providing he does not enter the field of play he will still be eligible to play in either competition, i.e. Reserve Cup or Challenge Cup.

Does the team sheet actually have a line for a designated reserve goalkeeper or is that open to interpretation?

Re: Cup round 2 draw?
We usually put their number as 'RGK', refs have never had a problem with that.Wunkar Fox wrote:Does the team sheet actually have a line for a designated reserve goalkeeper or is that open to interpretation?

As an outfield player, once he's named on the team sheet he's cup tiedHydration Officer wrote:once he steps on the field of play he is cup tied to that team.
Re: Cup round 2 draw?
Wonder if a club would approach the SAASL and ask if their first team goal keeper and cup tied could play reserves the following round

Re: Cup round 2 draw?
they should remove the confusion and make it when you come on your cup tied, whats to stop team naming every sub as a keeper

Re: Cup round 2 draw?
You could stop confusion by having your clubs coaches read the league's rules and advising their players if need be.

Re: Cup round 2 draw?
There's nothing to stop you doing that at all. In fact we're naming 5 RGK's for our cup game. I think someone how the league would say stop taking the piss and just cup tie them all.Gristy wrote:they should remove the confusion and make it when you come on your cup tied, whats to stop team naming every sub as a keeper
However, i've also seen a ref cross out all ununsed subs after the game so they weren't cup tied.

Re: Cup round 2 draw?
Wouldn't they still be cup tied if their name was already there?

Not if they're crossed out, it was like never being on the team sheet in the first place.Wunkar Fox wrote:Wouldn't they still be cup tied if their name was already there?

Re: Cup round 2 draw?
In the FFSA gks can't get cup tied.
I've never heard of any clubs exploiting this and dropping a regular Ressie gk to play a senior gk to win a reserves game or even final.
Yes it could be exploited but never is.
As for players named on the card why are they cup tied if they don't get on??
That's ridiculous, but a ref can cross out the name on the card and they're not cup tied, that's even more ridiculous.

That's ridiculous if a goalkeeper can't be cup tied, just sums up the stupidity of the people involved in that competition. Wouldn't trust them to tell me what day it is.paul merson wrote:In the FFSA gks can't get cup tied.

If you're part of the squad, you're cup tied same as you would be in the FA Cup in England.
May have been one individual referee who did but I saw it happen.

Sorry I should rephrase that, GKs get tied to clubs but not teams.God is an Englishman wrote:That's ridiculous if a goalkeeper can't be cup tied, just sums up the stupidity of the people involved in that competition. It's basically to stop RGKs from being tied to seniors if they get on for 5 mins due to most clubs only having minimal numbers.
I take it you think RGKs should be cup tied for being named then?
I suppose up until the 2000's leagues beneath the EPL never had keepers on the bench so realistic here.
For what it's worth I think you should be tied to clubs but whilst you have all teams in then you can swap teams, when the seniors go so does everyone that has played cup games for them, and so on.

I think it's a fair compromise that if a keeper doesn't get on then he's not cup tied. At amateur level it would also be fair to not cup tie someone who doesn't step on the pitch.
