The whole purpose of the event is to celebrate SAASL 50th year & Adelaide United were very keen to be involved. The event will also include free coaching clinics by AU players for kids & small games at halftime. The FFA through Adelaide United only approved the game last week so effectively there is 5 weeks to put it together. By chance Adelaide United were available to play on Sunday 13th July that happens to be Cup Round 3 which means league games dont need to be shifted otherwise probably wouldnt of happened. It is my understanding also there will be another State Team fixture at seasons end.

The SAASL has put together a group of 5 coaches from Sat & Sun Div 1 to assist Serg in the selection of an initial squad of approx 25-30 players & these players will be invited to trial for a final squad of 18. From that group of coaches Serg will probably choose 2 assistants. These types of things always stir up interest & debate about who is what which is great for the game. More importantly is the fact that we have a State Team again after many years & I hope its here to stay.
I think it's a terrific idea and very good of AU to agree to be part of it.

Not being funny but some of the lads names who've been mentioned are well past their best and playing them wouldn't do anything other than feed their egos.
I think for it to be a decent game, the showcase the anniversary deserves, the league need to look at the good young talent at this level and give them a chance to shine and show their ability rather than go with players who have had their day.

I agree with Swanny's idea of an U23 team.
Whats wrong with you?
Its either indigestion or this forum, and I hope its indigestion
Why?
Because at least I know that will get better in a little while

Pasquale Barbaro and Anthony Pietrobon from Salisbury Villa are worthy of a place. Both very young and extremely skilled players.

Also Joshy Christianson from A.Villa is one of the best midfielders getting around.

All three should be playing Premier League, but lucky for us they make the amateur league that little more classy.

The trouble you could probably come up with over 100 suitable candidates for selection and insufficient time during the league and cup schedules to run selection trials. It will always be a reputation / word of mouth thing deciding who gets a call up. Has been similar in years gone by with these amateur state team selections.

Wow how narrow minded of you! Some of the best players in (and I can only speak for) Sunday prem are well and truly over 23 some well in their 30's giving the so called young talent a bath week in and out, I think that it should be the best players irrelevant of age. The best people to judge this would be the prem coaches.
The big issue I see is that most of Sunday and Saturday Prem are still in the cup so will coaches give players up to play this game??

Sorry to be the first to say, all can play BUT not for this game.

I actually think the SAASL are setting themselves up to fail and cant really understand why Adelaide United would want this game for at all. Will they be playing the Youth team?

As said earlier, most of the Div 1 clubs are still in the cup, can't see any clubs wanting to release players for this ahead of a 3rd round Cup game.

That's the morning of the world cup third place play off.

If I'm picked for the state team I'll have to politely decline.

It's a bit hard for it to be the morning of the third place play off, considering it's in the afternoon.

Is it possible that the SAASL postpone the cup 3rd round to August 9/10th
then playing the quarter finals 14th sept (week after the completion of the leage)
Semi final 21st sept
cup final 28th sept

Then clubs due to play in the cup wont be affected by also allow this match to get full exposure

Potentially, but you'd have hoped if SAASL have agreed to the match, they'd have already thought of this and would have the solution ready to go.. Hoped.

As Lion Coach and also Player for many Years in Amateurs. I know player selections usually come from Sat Div 1 and Sun Div 1 Sides but there is quality players in most divisions that don't get a look in due to not playing higher levels. As previous post Michael Markham quality player and also our two Strikers would be a handful for most defenders. Our leader striker Magnus has bags of 8 goals and 6 goals and a couple bags of 4 goals in games so far this year. Anyway great idea to have a State side back and hope they perform well against Adelaide United. Selection will be interesting considering so many Sat Div 1 and Sun Div 1 sides left in Cup.

SAASL normally book Hindmarsh in advance due to FFSA games. Hence the week off between semi & final to allow for FFSA schedule games. From the FFSA website competition dates

If a FFSA club makes the NPL Semi Final and is awarded the home game . It will be played on the Saturday

Can't talk too much for the sunday leagues as I don't see many of the games, however from a Saturday perspective the following players should get a look in:

Ade Uni

Ross Tyeman (sp?)
Ollie Gissing
Ryan Lewis

Ade Wanderers

Marco Storino Jr
Jimmy Okello

Modbury Jets

Woods (the attacker)

BOSA

Tasovac

Saints

Evan Gooding
Turner

Titans

Pro Loizides

Ryan Lewis from Uni has been called up to the 30 man squad.

IMO well deserved.

Well I have picked 3 so far correctly!

Ryan should have a crack at Federation level, when he is on he is virtually unplayable at Amateur Level.
