So, when Bale is "caught" they should be retrospectively booking him for it. You can't change the result but you should be able to be punished for it.

Contact from behind whilst you're running must, by definition, be an invalid attempt to get the ball, since there's a player in the way, therefore contact from behind is a foul. Ergo, you get clipped from behind and fall over theatrically, I don't like the exaggeration but it's still a foul.

“It wasn’t a challenge as such, he just ran across me and part of his legs touched mine. I don’t think he dived. It was just a coming together.

“I haven’t seen it again but I have to be honest – my gut feeling was that he didn’t dive. I’m pretty sure I didn't put a challenge in but I think there was some contact.

I would love to see a definition for the word "dive". To me if the contact isn't enough to actually knock you over then it's a dive.
