Re: The JS Sports Pre-Season Cup
I can't believe there are four clubs mugs enough to pay $750 to enter. These pre-season Cup comps are effectively trial games that help the clubs prepare for the season. Normally with Reserve teams included they give clubs a chance to try out all there players in a match situation. You wouldn't pay money to play ordinary friendlies against another club. Also the host team should be able to make a killing on catering (drinks, BBQ, etc). Charging a significant amount to enter when it only includes the first team and the host club milks the catering profits each week seems a bit rich - but if other clubs are happy to fork out the cash then good luck to them.

Re: The JS Sports Pre-Season Cup
Once again un-informed comments. There are no "scheduled" fixtures for the reserves teams as part of the cup but we are providing pitch space and facilities for teams to play reserves games at our ground. This happened on Sunday with Strikers v Vikings Reserves followed by Fulham V Salisbury Villa reserves on Pitch 2.Farpost wrote:I can't believe there are four clubs mugs enough to pay $750 to enter. Half of the money recieved from entry fees is given back in Prize Money, so I would argue that the games are not 'effectively trial games' and that they are a little more competitive than that. The clubs involved, who are actually AWARE of the details of the Cup are not complaining..... It is only people making un-educated comments on here who have a problem with it.

Serious? You run a Bar, a B.B.Q & raffles & you charge a entry fee?born slippy wrote:The referee we have 'employed' is an official Referee with qualifiactions (higher than level 5), affiliated with one of the States other Federations. Good on you for finding Clubs stupid enough to loose revenue from having home trial games & then pay to play in a mickey mouse competition with obviously No Ambulance or Player Insurance because you don't have a approved SAASL referee

Re: The JS Sports Pre-Season Cup
I think the only un-educated ones here are those mugs happy to fork out the dollars for the privelidge of playing in a pre-season comp that the vast majority of other clubs would expect to be free and use purely as good preparation for the season with some hardened matches (e.g. Payford Cup, Salisbury Mayors Cup, etc). Nice little earner on your part though if you can get away with it - while you're at it you should also try floggng them a few used cars.
Not sure you've goy the insurance risk fully covered though - although the couple of grand in the bank up front from the entry fees is a goot start.

Re: The JS Sports Pre-Season Cup
So glad I wasnt the only one thinking that the $750 entry fee was a bit rich.
+ BBQ + Bar + Raffle... this will be a tidy earner for the club agreed, whether this is a sustainable pre-season cup in the future in light of the not so friendly publicity this cup is having, is yet to be seen.
I am interested to know whether all teams had to pay up front? if not have all teams paid their entry fee?

good point where is the cover for someone who does get hurt..
its safer for you guys slippy to get a saasl ref just in case something does happen even though the saasl ref is worse
than interstate ref...please explain..you may regret this..

Re: The JS Sports Pre-Season Cup
At the end of the day, something is only worth what someone will pay for it. If the other three clubs, saw $750 as a good investment, that's their prerogative, no?
Re: The JS Sports Pre-Season Cup
Lets set a few things straight about the comp.KING NUGGETT wrote:born slippy please educate us uneducated on your competitions player ambulance & insurance cover...born slippy wrote: It is only people making un-educated comments on here who have a problem with it.
There are 5 teams in the comp not 4 - Fulham, Vikings, Strikers, Salis Villa and San Marco.
I must admit (as previously stated earlier in the forum) that an official SAASL ref was not provided but those reasons have been explained but my personal opinion is that it still would have been better to get a SAASL ref.
With the insuarance cover each club has to take out there own insurance cover which Fulham has had to do and pay (this is on top of the entry fee).
The bottom line is if you are good enough to win the comp then basically you get your money back plus a bit more and get 5 trial games for nothing.
If you come 2nd well you get most of your money back and get 5 trial games as well.
For clubs like Fulham where we share with the cricket club we cannot play home trial games so in the end it is a way of getting a few trials organised.
I do however agree that if this was to continue next year there would have to be changes made to the structure of the comp and if certain changes are not made (which I will not go into detail on here) I will defintely be recommending we do not enter again.
I must say that I have been disappointed by this weeks events where game times etc have had to be changed to accomodate a certain team - once the schedule was posted it should have been adhered to and if the other club could not live up to its end of the bargain it should have been a forfeit - simple as that.
They should not have entered the comp if they couldn't agree to the schedule.

And how much did JS Sports pay for naming rights or is it a token sponsorship from some other deal.

Re: The JS Sports Pre-Season Cup
Game today.
A's Fulham 3 - Vikings 0
B's Fulham 4 - Vikings 1
Strikers v San Marco postponed as they were ment to play Fri nite but due to the bad weather it was postponed - will have to be replayed at some stage I suppose.
Not to harp on the problems but using cones to mark the lines out because of the rain was not very good for the image of the comp - surely someone could have come down and remarked the lines on Saturday.

Re: The JS Sports Pre-Season Cup
After weeks of hype and anticipation, today's reserves match saw the debut coaching appearance of the evergreen bigpond in amateur circles for his beloved fulham. Overall he did a decent job for a fill in effort, although I think the team carried him at times. A very methodical approach. Sought the opinions of others then quickly dismissed them in a very authoritarian manner. His performance got better throughout the match after his initial problems remembering how many players were required for a football match. He also had the shock of having kamikaze pull out at the last minute leaving only one half of the curiosity show to run the ship. Made some crucial changes and can be pleased with the result, although expecting the crowd to give him a standing ovation after taking himself off with 5 to go was taking things a bit too far.

Good performance by the B's considering the defensive and attacking midfielder didn't get home until 4.30am as per Ga Palas report and still made it to the ground all be it 10 mins late.
Apparently Ga Pala was in fine form on Sat. nite and the Vig and co. were drooling over his ability to attract females from every direction.
In regards to the Ref Redders it was the same ref for the A game and he did ok but the game was not as intimidating as the Salis Villa game - will be interesting to see how he refs next week when Strikers take on Fulham and it is a must win game for Strikers to stay in the comp and a win will all but assure Fulham of a place in the final.
Re: The JS Sports Pre-Season Cup
...I thought the game was changed back to Sunday? And if it wasn't, if it was ok for Adelaide United to play Friday night then why didn't they play too? Both teams should forfeit the points.

I bet everyone involved in this comp is regretting it now. Let me guess, beers are $6 to buy and the BBQ is $3 for a snag.
Re: The JS Sports Pre-Season Cup
The problems will continue this week for the tournament - forecast temp so far for sunday is 35 degrees and the hot weather policy states:
If the temperature is forecasted 33 degrees or greater:
2.1 If the temperature is forecasted to be 33 degrees or greater in the
Advertiser Newspaper on the Friday prior to a Sunday game or
the day before a midweek game, the game must be re-scheduled
as follows:
Played and completed by 11.00am on the scheduled day or
played after 5.00pm
Game scheduled for 5pm between Fulham v Strikers ok but other game scheduled for 3pm would have to be moved to 5pm on the other pitch and hence the ref that is being used wont be able to do 2 games at the same time so another ref will have to be organised.
Also the B Team games will all but be called off this week I would assume.
And to top it off Adelaide United is playing Sunday at 5pm - will be another interesting week for the organisers - lets just hope that things can be sorted out in the next couple of days and clubs are clearly told what will be going on and not leave it until the last minute.

In principal the idea is good but there have been a few teething problems which Strikers have been made aware of.
Like I have said previously we dont have a ground to play trials on bacause of cricket so its an easy way out for us to get some trials but like I also said previously if it does go ahead again some things must change if we were to enter again.
