even half. as predicted, aussies are direct and japs are joga bonito. we've had the best chances though. was that handball? tense 45 mins coming. jap fans are nuts and the local qataris mostly supporting them too

aussies clearly on top for mine in the first half, playing direct and its troubling japan, the uneducated will bag the long ball but its clearly a good option in asia . japan dont like it.

lesmurraysoccer Les Murray
300 high balls to Cahill and not one goal. Could have won this by now with different, less predictable tactic. Holger must change it.

Cahill should have gone off when Kewell did...despite his misses Kewell still had some run and looked like something might fall to him....not to be !

Good game, frustrating for Australia (and Australian football)....that's the way the Anzac biscuit crumbles.

We might have seen the last of Kewell playing for the Socceroos... we must really start building a new side; and think of new tactics other than lobbing high balls to Tim Cahill.

Poor position lead to the goal yes. But this game was lost when Australia failed to make various great chances count. In a final, half chances need to be on target, and good chances need to test the keeper, and great chances need to be taken. Ultimately we made the play, used the space but didn't capitalize. I was however very impressed how Australia played. Very, very good I thought when playing such a good technical side.

I have heard that many of the Australian players were seen reading Australian newspapers before the game. It stands to reason then, that Travis Dodd's manager's comments would have distracted Australia and caused them to lose against Japan !

Muscat's tackle was badly mistimed due to Dodd's manager yelling him the story from the sidelines.
