Nowhere in the SAASL laws does it state a player can only be paid $99.

In fact, a club can offer a player more then $99 but the onus remains on the player to declare that money to the ATO.

Never read that but you're rarely wrong. The league know that some players are on big money but its all cash and under the table so how are they going to check. Besides the SAASL don't have the legal right to check clubs books anyway.

I quite like the 'player points' system being introduced in the SAAFL this season. The SAASL would not be remiss to have a look at it.

I think the payment of players in div 2 is quite ridiculous let alone div 3 clubs starting to do so,
Whatever happened to the good old days when playing amatuers was about playing with your mates and having a few beers.

Obviously all clubs want to be competitive but they should do so naturally via the great atmosphere that they create not by using a temporarily bulging bank account which could dry up the year after.

It has happened time and time again, clubs reach deep into their pockets and succeed for a couple of seasons and a few years later don't have the ability to pay and a mass exodus occurs, some of these players dont care about the club.

Raptors have never paid any players and never will, the club has built a foundation made of friendship and respect and has recently established itself more as an Eastern Suburbs community club rather than a Greek club. We have been reasonably succesful and have been competitive in Div 2 for a number of years now, the club also has a proud record of never being relegated. I say congratulations to the Raptors committee for staying true to the original ideology of amatuer soccer, I would rather play in a team that is succesful as a result of friendship and organization rather than a team that has been purchased and conists of players that only play for the highest bidder.

What Div.3 now paying players, all these player payments are getting out of control I for one am not a fan & never have been it's amateurs it should be for the club & the shirt!
I understand it's started now & to be even competitive let alone a force you have to pay but Im not sure where this all will end, like I said though Im not a fan....

One more thing, cos it took me so long to stop laughing before my head actually could get itself around what you had just posted;I know that when my old man was playing in 1st Div Amateurs in the mid Nineties, he was on what most players in the Amateur League are on now. So to say that is getting out of hand is bottle of shiraz Barossa Pearl... Been happening for years and will continue to happen for years. And if Gardens want the League this year, I would say they would have to break their all time salary record this year to keep a hold of the League... Lets see where you guys come when you tell Paul and Freddy they are playing for the love of the shirt this year...

The point of the player points system is that no matter how much you actually pay someone, there is still some means to stop clubs "buying" championships. You can't hide the fact, for example, that Lachlan Campbell is a former NSL player, but you can hide how much money he earns per game.

Can obvioulsy be amended to relate to SAASL. It was borrowed from Country Footy as the governing bodies realised that

a) they couldnt control the amount of money being spent by the clubs on player remuneration;

b) if players chose to breach taxation law it was not for them to police.
