Yes, I have to agreee with Johnydep - except for the small sided game which is a joke -
Also, it's not about coaches - it's all about the parents.
Parents are the JPL enemy, and it flows on to the kids, teams and clubs.

I still hold out that there is a sound system for selection - it's never easy, but we need players that are going to grow with the game and give us the players we need as they mature, not just those that can turn on a penny in U12 who become cannon fodder by the time they are 16, with tied antics.

I went to a few training sessions at the under 13's state side,
and let me tell you i was not impressed by the boys at all.
To many individuals playing for themselves and not as a team because parents,
were telling their kids to play for them selves to get recognized.
there should have been at least two players that should of got through, but
because of the arrogance of the players they did not.
parents sucking up to the coaches bloody disgraceful.

Heard something similar from someone who went to to the Championships. If true then surely it is the coaches' job to knock it on the head early?

 big call. which kids weren't you impressed with?
Which two "arrogant" ones did not get in?
I take it by your comments that you feel that the attitude of a player is not important?
Did you go to the trainings as a parent of a squad member of just a spectator?
Were you there from the start to make such a big call?

Who'd want to be a coach?

Horribly difficult to choose kids at 12 years old. You get the small skillful boys who rarely pass, and the big kids who rely on their physical abilities, and every shade in between. And every parent thinks their little Johnny is the best talent since Kewell.

Nearly all the kids have their merits, but you can only choose so many. Rather than ask why they're not selected, the best thing the disappointed kids and parents can do is ask what they need to do to improve, and then come back next year and try again. It really should be about loving playing, not what team you play for.

IMO.

dont blame the coaches and clubs, its the players as well. Be honest, how many players do you know that want to play for a losing team, they all want to win. And the biggest culprits in this is those PARENTS who only want there kids to play in an "A" division winning team. Everyone talks about developing players but the truth is that everyone wants to be part of a winning team.

If the only focus is player development then get rid of divisions, promotions, relegations and the entire jpl competition. Then watch a mass exodus to other sports because at the end of the day, the kids that want to play a competitive sport also want to win.
Nothing wrong with being in a winning team....No-one wants to be in team that loses week in week out.

I am indicating that player development (technical ability & game awareness) & should include...able to play both feet & not being pigeon holed to one playing position.[/quote]

you cant blame the players. They werent taught how to play the 4-3-3 formation until half-way through the weekend away. 4-3-3 was the formation the FFA told the FFSA to play and the boys wern't taught to play that way.

Under 13s age group still has a lot of kids playing at E&D and other associations and they come across to FFSA clubs at 14 and 15 which are the age groups we seem to do better with at the national championships when we have a bigger group of stronger players to choose from. Just my thoughts anyway.
So it's because of E&D that FFSA u/14 and u/15 are doing well at the Nationals, because majority are from E&D and come over when they are 14 and 15 ??
History will tell you that E&D have always been strong in u13 age groups just look at the State Championship records (except the last 2 years :? ). We have always noticed in the past a shift of players from our club & so have many others in that age group although in the last 2 years its been more stable in fact we have players coming back :D .

You might want to come down one time Zeljko & take a look at our U15 team seeing as you blokes are only down the road
