Fold yes, Merge no, has happened many times - Adelaide Celtic did it and went up 3 or 4 Divisions

I even know a bloke who owns two pubs up there. Always loved the Pirie trips - tis a good town, especially if you can arrange to stay over night.

They would surely have to be slotted into Division 3 as most teams in Division 4 are C-Teams (in a way) or teams without a Reserve side.
Even several Division 3 sides are Club's 3rd teams.

Re: port pirie city
Was told tonight that Port Pirie has merged with USC Lion, but (apparently) Usc Lion is going to Saturdays and Port Pirie (Savoy) are taking the spot of USC lion in Div2 Sundays. Port Pirie will have their home games in Port Pirie and the SAASL will accomadate all teams with a sum of money to travel to their ground. Very interesting senario which brings a few questions. If a Club merges doesnt that mean they join as one team ? If so why is lion now going to Saturdays ?? Is some of the lion Players staying to play Sunday with Port pirie ?? Are port pirie adding the name Lion to their name ??..................................
Hope some of this can be cleared up. if not some questions need to asked soon !! Doesnt seem to fit in with the rules if the answer to these questions are inadequate.

Division 4 was a first and reserves league. Last year it contained Adelaide Pumas (from Sunday), Murray Bridge, Strathalbyn, ACU Falcons, Simba of Congo (from Sunday), and Torrens Valley. The only 'C' teams you refer to are OISC (2) and Adelaide Uni (3).swannsong wrote:They would surely have to be slotted into Division 3 as most teams in Division 4 are C-Teams (in a way) or teams without a Reserve side.

If they start anywhere, they start at the bottom. They are a 'new' club in the division.
Re: port pirie city
New teams fielding a reserves side in Sunday Divisions have historically, always entered in Divisions above the C-Teams/Third teams and teams that do not have the numbers to field a Reserves side .
Division 3 had only 9 teams in 2009, and as you have stated 2 of those sides were club's 3rd string sides (finishing 2nd and 3rd bottom of the Division) Maybe they are considering a 12 team Division 3 ?

Re: port pirie city
Clubs can enter teams in both saturday and sunday leagues. Pontions, Adelaide Villa (I think) and Munno Para have done it in the past. If the two play under the one name I think it's possible, although by rights a merged club should start at the level of the lower of the two.GULLY BOYZ wrote:Was told tonight that Port Pirie has merged with USC Lion, but (apparently) Usc Lion is going to Saturdays and Port Pirie (Savoy) are taking the spot of USC lion in Div2 Sundays. Torrens Valley only had one team and really should have played in division five which could have done with an extra team.Kitchimo wrote:Division 4 was a first and reserves league. Port Pirie coming into Sunday Div 2 is ridiculous. To say they have merged with USC Lion is as close to a lie as Ive ever heard. They havent amalgamated? They have simply taken USC lions place, do they have 1 committee or 2? Will they have a reserves team? There advert in the Pirie Paper asks for a Senior coach only? This leaves Munno Para and Brahma Lodge in a bit of turmoil. To go and play in Pirie on a Sunday is just short of stupid. In my opinion and I had to do this twice a year when coaching at Playford was great fun on the way home BUT we had Sunday to recover, I understand we could play them on Saturdays BUT we play in Sunday Amateur Comp so it really doesnt fit. A bus to Pirie cost Playford $870. Will this amount be covered by the SAASL. Will 1 ref go up there every week or will we have a Pirie Ref. I just cant see how this has been thought through? Im sure there will be nothing we can do but I find it odd and a touch unfair to a couple of other clubs.
Re: port pirie city
Division 3 started with 10 teams. The Afghan team (can't remember their name) was booted after a player assaulted a referee. As far as I know two (or three) teams go up and two teams go down pending whether they are allowed back in.swannsong wrote:New teams fielding a reserves side in Sunday Divisions have historically, always entered in Divisions above the C-Teams/Third teams and teams that do not have the numbers to field a Reserves side .

USC Lion would have to start in Division 4, which was the league above the 'C' Leagues (which were Divisions 5 and 6).
Re: port pirie city
From my conversations at the SAASL, they were originally in Division 6, but moved to Division 4 after it was thought that they could get enough players for a Reserve team, but this didn't eventuate by the start of the season.Monty's Python wrote:Torrens Valley only had one team and really should have played in division five which could have done with an extra team.Kitchimo wrote:Division 4 was a first and reserves league. The Amateur League honchos do whatever they like.
If they want the Pirie team that has just been booted out of the FFSA, they will dangle a carrot to make it worthwhile (whilst trying to get one up on the FFSA).
There have been some less than glamorous 'mergers' in the past. I think the 'Eastside Jets' merger earlier this decade was more of a takeover inorder for a Div 4 team leap frog into Sun Div 1. It just took the now Sat Div 1 Jets a few years to re-establish themselves. (I am sure a Jets person will correct me if I am wrong)

Travel costs for the away teams will be covered by Pirie and the SAASL. The SAASL will also pay traveling costs for the ref's. I heard kick off times might be 12pm and 2pm. Dont think Pirie will have a C team.Left Right Out wrote:The Amateur League does a great job and they have made really good decisions BUT this one in my opinion is a bit dodgey.GULLY BOYZ wrote:Was told tonight that Port Pirie has merged with USC Lion, but (apparently) Usc Lion is going to Saturdays and Port Pirie (Savoy) are taking the spot of USC lion in Div2 Sundays. Why is that an issue. Lots of clubs change grounds year by year. Grove and Adelaide Villa have all had different homes over the last couple of seasons.

In all seriousness, I think there is no issue having a regional team in the league. However, it seems the rules have been 'bent' to allow them to take USC Lion's spot in Div 2 Sunday.

Why would Brahma or Munno Para in turmoil. USC Lion were relegated from Sun Div 1 so there is a place in Div 2 for them. It thats USC Port Pirie then so be it. Sure we play on Sundays but some clubs have moved games from Sunday to Friday nights previously.
I don't think a bus trip home from Pirie requires a day to recover. Maybe an alcohol fuelled trip does but its up to the individual if they want to go to work with a hang over or not. The main issue I see is if someone was hospitalised and needed to stay overnight and they caught a bus up there. Highly unlikely but a possibility.
If they are ex FFSA, they might be quite a strong team and we may see them in Sunday Div 1 in 2011. Imgaine the Gardens, Vale and Downs boys heading up there for the day. It would double the towns income
