Re: Veneto Club Alcohol Ban
isnt drawing top sunday sides the biggest payday of the year to saturday sides? downs over 35s would get crowds similiar to most saturday sides

Re: Veneto Club Alcohol Ban
It appears the issue here is that the owner/lessee of the ground (the Veneto Club), will not allow alcohol in as it breaches their liquor licence. Wanderers pay them to play there. Most clubs play on public grounds (council owned) so it is generally no issue.redfred wrote:isnt drawing top sunday sides the biggest payday of the year to saturday sides? downs over 35s would get crowds similiar to most saturday sides
Re: Veneto Club Alcohol Ban
Wanderers v Downs wasn't a huge turnout today, no car or body searches either.
Have they changed the pitch orientation, I thought it was a north/south pitch.
When the sun is out it must be difficult for keepers!

Re: Veneto Club Alcohol Ban
downs supporter groups boycotted the game today because of the email sent out by the Veneto Club . Sorry wanderers we did not realise your only source of of income was your BBQ. We are sorry this was the result of Veneto Clubs anti driking ban. However we will donate $500 to your club when we play in a pre season game next year. We respect you and your clubs ambitons. Honour in defeat is more important than honour in winning. Wanderers are a great Club and will be reconised as a team with spirit and fire as they took us to 93 mins today. Pitch sucks so does $6.50 for a burger but with three quality refs the best team won. Without question total repect.

If drinking beer is more important than drinking the game they can't be that keen fans.

Having a beer is part of the game. It's why football clubs all round the world have bars. Go to a professional game in England and see how packed the pubs are near the ground before and after. Go to the kiosks at half time and see how packed they are.Certified Nut Case wrote:If drinking beer is more important than drinking the game they can't be that keen fans.
If you took away the part of having a beer and a laugh with your mates then you are just watching 22 blokes kicking round a pigs bladder.
I don't blame Downs for boycotting, it seems to me that the Veneto Club have treated people like shit and threatened security guards etc. Personally, I would have turned up to lend the vociferous support but refused to support the bar.

You're right, but people don't bring their own do they? The Veneto Club has a bar as you mentioned.God is an Englishman wrote:Having a beer is part of the game. Re: Veneto Club Alcohol Ban
Yes and I'm sure the bar would have been well supported had they not sent this argumentative e-mail. It's about people management to me. I have only ever taken my own beer to grounds that do not have a bar, but I would have been annoyed by the way the Veneto Club have handled it.Pooraka Salt wrote:You're right, but people don't bring their own do they? Re: Veneto Club Alcohol Ban
The Veneto Club is a function centre first and foremost. I doubt when you go to such places you bring your own food and beer. Next time you are out and about try going to a regular bar and bring your own beer and see what happens - same rules apply

That would depend if the Veneto licence extends out into the playing field or not.vigilante wrote:The Veneto Club is a function centre first and foremost. Try going to a pub with a case of beer in the boot of your car. Will security come and search your car?vigilante wrote:The Veneto Club is a function centre first and foremost. Leaving it in your car and taking it into the grounds is two different things. I doubt few people would take it to the game without the intention of drinking it at the game.

Re: Veneto Club Alcohol Ban
According to reports on here, they were going to search cars. That leaves no opportunity to leave it in your car anyway.Pooraka Salt wrote:Leaving it in your car and taking it into the grounds is two different things. Re: Veneto Club Alcohol Ban
I doubt the Veneto Club would do this for all matches someone must have alerted management to a potential problem
Hawkesy if they were going to do such a thing as policing the consumption of unpurchased alcohol the easiest way for them to do it would have been at the gates, hence i imagine that is why they said they might search the car upon entry to the premises
but im not in their management comittee or anything of the like nor do i know the full story simply stating that it is within their rights as a licensed venue to do such a thing, and people should understand why they do it as they are not a football club as such but a function centre

Re: Veneto Club Alcohol Ban
Lets see if we can get a list of clubs who do not benefit from the bar takings.
Totally different subject but one thing I become aware about when I played in the country aussie rules comp is that most of the clubs got there profit from the gate takings, there were many clubs that were not able to charge for entry simply due to not having the facility's to charge people as they entered.
What the clubs did for those that were not able to benefit from the gate takings was share their takings when these particular clubs visited.
is this something that clubs could do with bar takings.
I think the closest we have come to this in div 2 is with Modbury putting the beer's on after the game. (your my favorite team boys for that simple reason)

Re: Veneto Club Alcohol Ban
That's a good point. When we went to play McLaren Vale last year, we turned off at the wrong oval and turned into the footy oval. They tried to charge us $7 to bring the car in, they were a bit bemused when we said we were playing sokkah.

At the end of the day, the Veneto Club is a licensed premises and they have the right to refuse individuals bringing alcohol into their grounds.
