I think Aldo might have made his comment with sarcastic intent !bloodypassit wrote:u want another southern club ..

Actually, my comment didn't make much sense at all!
No, I don't believe we need another southern club.

what about salisbury villa their sat div 2? their setup would meet the requirements and they have a lot of juniors, but their are only 2 senior teams.

So does anyone actually know who the club in question is?
Lots of conjecture but not much in the way of fact so far.

Ive heard and it was UNOFFICIAL that Pontian Eagles have applied and so have "Hallett Cove" not sure if its Hallet Cove Soccer club or a team based in Hallett Cove.
Im sure it will come out in the wash.

7 minutes
There are too many Semi-professional clubs down South who all seem to struggle along
There are too many semi-professional clubs Full Stop
The Cove are in a good, developing area, so should do ok in what is fast becoming a joke of a league

Re: FFSA State League Vacancy
Agree, the State League is horrible. FFSA should have two leagues of 12 with bottom two relegated and third bottom in a playoff against 3rd place in the lower league.Knight7 wrote:bored wrote:The cove?

One Cup, not two as their currently is or no cup and a finals system

I think we all agree with you Jay, but the people in charge think they need to improve the State League by bringing in more average clubs???Jay Walking wrote:Agree, the State League is horrible. Re: FFSA State League Vacancy
On a slightly different angle, I can understand that the FFSA may only want one club in Pirie to help it build up the strength of the region, plus it could become the primary club in the region and use the Whyalla region competion as a feeder ground.
That being said I would then be confused if Cove were added as the Southern region alreay has 2 State League teams that have been struggling for a while and the addition of a third would impact the current 2 teams in player recruitment, junior development and sposnorship. This would also seem contrary to the reasons behind taking Port Pirie City out of the competition by reducing the available resources down south for the current clubs.
That being said, where should this new club come from? All the suburban regions have a number of teams in their areas across the different leagues. It is also expensive to run a FFSA club and they will need significant sponsorship, experienced administration and hopefully a source of players to recruit that doesn't just dilute the level of the State League. Gawler are a good example of being a regional based club, ok they are suburban fringe now, slowly building themselves up and coming from a strong background of football in the amateur leagues over many years. So where should this new club be from?
My first thought is to look at other regions where there aren't any FFSA clubs and football can continue to build its brand and in-roads into gaining greater community involvement and capturing kids to the game vs AFL.
So any ideas out there? Maybe Murray Bridge - it's a regional centre and not too far from Adelaide (shorter than Pirie anyway
) or the South East region, further south and down to Victor Harbour (although the age demographic could be abit high down there).

Re: FFSA State League Vacancy
At least for the short term, we need less semi-professional teams - personally 1 league of 12 would be enough - then overnight FFSA would have their Amatuer League and more financial semi-pro teams with better facilities etc - Start with Southern United, Adelaide City, Western Adelaide (as in the area not the old team), keep the "bigger teams" after an application process
Have a seperate junior comp, that way they won't need to pay the huge fee's they do to prop up their senior teams

Re: FFSA State League Vacancy
with the possibility of a sat team (cove) joining the state league and sat team (comets) joining metro league could make some repercussions into the proposed relegation for the 4 division 3 sides.

Re: FFSA State League Vacancy
I heard Pontian Eagles have expressed interest to join in 2010.
Interesting that their assistant coach says he is now agaianst the ffsa despite being with them in the past, and yet his club wants to join them with his support!
Also heard Adelaide University might be interesting to join down the track. Most states have a Uni side in their lower elite divisions, so makes sense.

They would need a new ground surely, I'd heard thattheir current ground Ridley Grove School might not be available next year. Also their major sponsor told me what they lacked was any youth coming through the ranks !rossie wrote:I heard Pontian Eagles have expressed interest to join in 2010.

Sat Div 2. They missed out on promotion by 2 points to Adelaide Villa.
I haven't been to their grounds since they were a Sunday Div 1 club and frmo memory they had some great facilities but do they have the money, people, teams, etc? Will they have a SAASL team next year?
It just seems to be an interesting selection with the other Southern clubs around them.

Re: FFSA State League Vacancy
facilities are decent down there, might have to arrange something with changing rooms or at least ensure that their fixtures do not clash with the aussie rules side. A really nice club and always have some banter with them down there. The wind is a pain in the arse but nothing that can be done about that. I'm prety sure they have a full junior set up. They had 4 (maybe even 5 if they kept their sunday vets side as well) SAASL teams last year, so could see them keeping a SAASL side going as well.J5 wrote:Sat Div 2. Re: FFSA State League Vacancy
Would be interesting to see what Seaford, Panthers and Noarlunga think about this, as I would guess this will impact the number of quality juniors at their clubs, this move really makes no sense, with respect to the Cove, good on them for going for it, but I can't see this helping the South in the long run, a riverland or a team from the South east would have made more sense, even another team from the Hills area would surley be more sensible......
Re: FFSA State League Vacancy
I have played there Sat Div 1 team (when they where there) and remember changing in a utility shed. I also remember the footy warming up on the soccer pitch just before our game. They would need to stamp this out!Hawkesy wrote:facilities are decent down there, might have to arrange something with changing rooms or at least ensure that their fixtures do not clash with the aussie rules side. Hulk, I think I was playing at comets year after you. You where coaching girls then I think for the Comets.
BTW you where right, when you asked if it was me at the Champ of Champs game, just didn't want it out aloud.

Re: FFSA State League Vacancy
That's why i said the part in red. Last time i was down there some kids were warming up for aussie rules on the football pitch. A couple of shots at goal that hit them and they soon got the message.Power04 wrote:I have played there Sat Div 1 team (when they where there) and remember changing in a utility shed. OH and Hulk Hogan was still playing while coaching the girls team. My mate took over from him for a good few years and HH was playing then as well. I think he mainly played in the UniSA Comets team though. Look at the facilities that Comets had without showers and sharing changing rooms at Ellis Pk and they moved on.
