And a kick off since everyone should be in their own halfimanoutlaw wrote:so that would mean that a free kick is the only set play in which you can be off side from?? yes/no??
Re: Athelstone
Technically - no. All players have to be behind the ball at a penalty kick otherwise it is offside but only if a player gains advantage by being in that position.Bomber wrote:Technically, not from a penalty either (speaking of "set" plays).

Re: Athelstone
technically, you could be outside the box in front of the ball and you would be offside, but not interfering with play. Why you would be there would be another matter though.Bomber wrote:Technically, not from a penalty either (speaking of "set" plays).
As for any set play and offside? Would you call a drop ball a set play?

On a drop ball once the ball has hit the ground it is 'live' play so I wouldn't consider it a set play.Hawkesy wrote:technically, you could be outside the box in front of the ball and you would be offside, but not interfering with play. You could argue then that once a goal kick has left the area then it is "live" play.Bodø Glimt wrote:On a drop ball once the ball has hit the ground it is 'live' play so I wouldn't consider it a set play.Hawkesy wrote:technically, you could be outside the box in front of the ball and you would be offside, but not interfering with play. I understand what you are saying, but making the point that you can be offside from a drop ball.

you could just reword it and we're all happy.imanoutlaw wrote:i think i will make my own assumption and forget i asked the question!!
Once the ball has left the field of play, you cannot be offside from the method of bringing it back into play. (throw in, goal kick, corner or kick off)

Re: Athelstone
mate of mine in the State League Reserves, was called off side after getting the ball direct from a goal kick and scoring. Shows that some ref's don't even know it.
