Re: SASI Vs NAB
I know that there is little chance of anything being improved or implemented this season, but heres a suggestion for next year....
Currently the SASI boys side fields two teams in the Men's State League, a Senior or "First Team" squad and a Reserves squad (formerly known as U23's). All other teams in the State League competition, field an U19's side, so when they play SASI boys I assume their 19's team have a BYE???
Why not aim to field the SASI girls team in the State League U19's next season??? I know for years league clubs have been frustrated by having to play SASI because they are "different" ie previously they fielded one team in the Super League U23's which created an 11th side, and resulted in clubs having to play mid-week games, giving SASI a slight advantage... This year is an improvement, but there is still the BYE with them not having that 3rd team.... Couldn't the girls fill this gap?? It would be more challenging playing against U19's who by the way can have up to 4 players up to the age of 24 in the side.... It would mean that players such as Vicki B could play with the girls, and also move up onto the bench for the Reserves, it would open up opportunities for other female players to play up with the SASI boys if necessary.... And would actually serve to make SASI more like other club based teams in the same competition...
What does everyone think??

Re: SASI Vs NAB
I think a very good idea. We do somethin similar in nswis (ohh how the crowd booo's n screams trator. haha) both the boys and girls train together which obviously benifits the girls more but we have enough to field close to 2teams so obviously 1team plays in a higher grade than the other. some of the players playin in the grade below sit on the bench for the other team and every now and then if there are injuries and wat not players get brought in to help field 2 teams.Dr.D wrote:I know that there is little chance of anything being improved or implemented this season, but heres a suggestion for next year....

my votes with Dr. D for plans for next year.
Re: SASI Vs NAB
I dont agree but maybe in a couple of years down the track.
You want to put 15,16 and 17 year old girls (plus one that is 14)against 19 year old men....
I dont know if you followed the SASI team in the womens comp last year but they were playing against 16 year old boys (and they were 18, 19 and 20 year old women then) and getting beaten most weeks.
Your idea is a good one, however I dont think the current SASI girls team would agree.

Re: SASI Vs NAB
I meant they mix with the boys so it'll be a mixed team or 2. That's wat we are doin atm. Obviously both squads may have to cut numbers down a bit if there were to be any additions.
I dont know. Im findin it benificial anyway.

Re: SASI Vs NAB
Mrs Trainer - I appreciate your concerns and they are valid on the grounds of physicality... But go along and see a couple of U19's games... You'd be surprised at their size and stature... I'm not saying its across the board but there are a lot of skinny little 16/17 year olds running around in the U19's competition....!!! Plus the referees are there to look out for everyones welfare. I've said many a time, that a lot of the prem girls out there could be VERY competitive against some U19's sides....
Have you seen Alex Mullen?? He plays for the SASI senior team most weeks, he's lucky is he's 5 foot anything, and he's as skinny as a stick and he's playing against 30 year old men... All the SASI boys are pitching above their weight, but the idea is for them to improve themselves by playing more competitive football... They're obviously the best of their age group so there's no value in having them play against boys their own age...
I don't think its worth talking about scorelines, because its been argued to death here that the girls aren't getting competitive matches in 15C, they're winning games by double figures etc... Don't think anyone would be overly interested in talking about NOT putting the girls into a higher division based on the fact that they might themselves get a whalloping from time to time

i think you'll find most under 19 boys teams are full of 15, 16, 17 year olds as well, especially those in the state league.Mrs Trainer wrote:I dont agree but maybe in a couple of years down the track.

Maybe a friendly should be organised between SASI girls and Toros U19's
Would be interesting to see where the girls are at

Luv ya Shorts!
Yeah we know the scholarship holders (and there's one that still defies belief) but who are the ex sasi players who get a gig in the highly competitive and presitgious and rated udner 15 ceeeeeees?
Fools paradise. And if the people running the show down there aren't concerned...well they bloody well should!

Re: SASI Vs NAB
Let me get my head around this-is there ex SASI players that are playing in the comp against the lads? If this true its an absolute disgrace, why are they doing this anyway, have they got a full team or not. It would be nice if my lads side could get over age "ring ins " when they are short, when are they going to even pretend to follow the rules. They are not allowed to play senior players (over 17) in a junior comp it doesn't matter if its girls side or a representative side................ but who are the ex sasi players who get a gig in the highly competitive and presitgious and rated udner 15 ceeeeeees?
If the WPL won't let a team in their comp because the clubs will lose their players why would they allow the SASI to go in the under 19's mens comp. Lets be real about this it sounds better if the girls are winning each game than losing each week. Why not aim to field the SASI girls team in the State League U19's next season???

but if they are winning 13-0 7-0 every game whats that going to teach them.
they need to have a bit of a challenge during the season i must say.
Re: SASI Vs NAB
It's obvious the girls aren't being challenged each week, but that's life and there's not much you can do about it now that the season has started. So get over it.prefly wrote:Let me get my head around this-is there ex SASI players that are playing in the comp against the lads? Why are the older girls playing you asked? Maybe because SASI only have 12 (Under 20) Scholarship holders. To my calculations that only allows one substitute. What are SASI supposed to do when some of those 12 players are overcome with injury? Do you expect them to only field 8 players? No? Exactly. Thats is why they bring in older players.
Re: SASI Vs NAB
well at least now next year they
will know to find a better league that
these girls can compete to.
now is too late but you can only
learn from your mistakes.

Re: SASI Vs NAB
Diego - lets clarify that - the FFSA will learn from this years mistake, as it was their doing..
The idea is/was for the girls to play in a more competitive environment which = a boys/mens league. Unfortunately the JPL clubs and FFSA didn't have the brains (or balls) to accept the girls playing in 15A's as opposed to 15C so this is what we've ended up with. The girls effectively got "demoted" from the U16's last year, playing with a lot more "overage" players than what they have now. Now logic tells you they should have been put in the next division down. U15A, but due to opposition from JPL clubs in that league, the FFSA put them where there was least resistance. So obviously the benefit to the girls isn't there in 15c, no argument there, but that was FFSA decsion, and at the time would anyone here have predicted the girls would get so little competition after struggling in 16s last season... Probably not.
So prefly, can you do us all a favour and stop acting like SASI had any control over where they ended up. If you have a problem with any of this voice your concerns with Dimi @ FFSA, or bring it up at the next JPL meeting with the clubs that have 15A and 15B teams, because that is the only way anything is going to change.
Prefly - exactly what are you talking about here??? Are you talking about the Premier League in the SAWSA competition?? Coz I've not heard of a WPL mate.... And just to clarify it for you, all of the SASI girls already play in the SAWSA leagues for clubs. If you took all of the best female players out of the clubs and into a SASI team in the same competition it would not give the SASI girls any better level of game than what they're currently getting in 15C's.... It would be like playing the SASI boys in the U17's competition. They'd thrash everyone..... So its not that SAWSA won't LET them compete in the Premier League its that there is no benefit to them being there. If the WPL won't let a team in their comp because the clubs will lose their players why would they allow the SASI to go in the under 19's mens comp. Re: SASI Vs NAB
The structure recommended by one person ie play in the the mens comp and with Deyy's comment re: training together are two of the most sane and briiliant suggestions I have heard. This should have been happening years ago with the other scholarship holders. This would have helped our girls to crack the national squads (and not as fringe people who attend camps).
Too late for them girls but its something that shodul be looked at as part of any shake up of our elite system taht's not so elite.

Re: SASI Vs NAB
In amongst all the negativity, it is good to see some positive suggestions emerging.
Seems like having senior SASI girls/women playing in a mixed team in the mens comp is not an unreasonable idea (obviously works in the eastern states). This could then be complimented with perhaps a SASI girls junior/youth squad who could play in an appropriate JPL division. There are certainly a number of girls who are talented enough to fill the squad places for this overall approach. (ex SASI senior players and Young Sensations girls).

A Young Sensations team would also better prepare the next generation of SASI players.pvfc wrote:In amongst all the negativity, it is good to see some positive suggestions emerging.

hi iam not a sasi follower but i have been reading on and for starters the under 15 boys had two guys,
that just back from overseas no training,no prep,in their defence.
this is the first time in this area and by what iam reading what are the sasi team doing in the 15c,
shouldnt they be a division higher.
iam have seen some woman play and they are very good.

if they cant fill a team they forfeit. just like anyone other team would have to do. all hell would let loose if NAB were unable to fill a side so they got some of their first team players to play and sasi got smashed. dont get me wrong i want the girls to play and win but u gotta look at it from the other side aswell. i understand playin emma coz she is just comin back from a big injury but yeh.#Unknown wrote:The coach is limited with his choices involving fielding overage players in a junior competition. We are not talking about older juniors we are talking about senior registered players, might even be some duty of care or liability issues here!! Would they be covered if they are breaking their own rules? Why cant they ask some talented younger players to fill in.
In the case of the keeper every one is saying she is good enough to play in the mens state league like Vicki B so lets be fair here keeping in games against the under 15Cs is a tad ridiculous don't you think now yes i know she is not playing in each game, why cant she come back thru her club!
If you took all of the best female players out of the clubs and into a SASI team in the same competition it would not give the SASI girls any better level of game than what they're currently getting in 15C's....
Are you seriously saying the top womens comp (Premier League in the SAWSA competition- just for you Dr.D ) is no better than the boys under 15Cs, Shiraz if thats the case...........l

sasi cannot bring a team straight into premier league - if that was the case 'we' would have brought noarlunga back sasi or no sasi they dont get special treatment coz they are the 'so called' elite athletes of south australia.........

end of story no sasi in premier league!!
