From my understanding the Goal keeper was punished for his actions and was red carded. Nothing else but the usual push and shove and players seperating other players happened until the away team supporters ran on to the ground and ( I use this word loosely ) attacked the offending goal keeper. Other players that werent involved in the fracas were also assaulted with a supporter attempting to punch an innocent ( on this occasion) bystanding player whom was lucky to only come out of it with a scratch to the nose from the offenders ring and then was kicked by another supporter before summing up his options and then back dooring the scrimmage.
I agree that action needs to be taken to avoid these incidents in the future however the goal keeper will get his punishment via the normal red card suspension avenue. but clubs that have their supporters attack players should be the ones that are punished.
Unfortunately for the Gardens they may have cost themselves the point as the player involved reckons they were all over Florina and with the keeper being sent off it may have been enought for them to pick up a point . The referee did explain that the reason the game was called off was due to the on rushing gardens supporters ( i'm sure not all of them ). He also mentioned that as the ball was dead a penalty could not have been given the existing free kick had to take place.
Im not too sure about that one.
When we played Parafield in the season opener, there was a littel altercation between our keeper Benny and Chris Cocaine, where benny was fouled and awarded a free kick inside the box. The next few moments saw a few player getting heated and puching and yelling, and then Red and Chris bumped eachother and Chirs came of second best, adding a screaming fit to go with it. The ref send Red off and awarded a penalty to Parafield as it happened in the box also. It was a dead ball already, but the descision was turned due to the actions that happened after.
Interesting to see 2 different aspects/ interpretations of it. Any offical refs care to comment on the "Dead ball" ruling. Swansong and ideas?

Going on what Lion Tamer has written (if true) then both clubs (as what was stated by the amatuer league) will get no points from the game and will lose a nominated amount of existing points. Plus suspensions to any players involved in the brawl. Thats how I take what the league put across to every one.

IF the situation above is as you said is correct then the referee was wrong do to that. A free kick/penalty can only be given when the ball is in play.Rexie wrote:Lion Tamer wrote:I probably shouldn't comment as I was not there either, however I have spoken to a player who was playing.

So lets say Joe is running down the wing and gets chopped big time, a clear foul which the referee gives. Joe gets up, turns to the bloke who tackled him and gives him an upper cut, the Joe is sent off but his team still has the free kick.
If Joe is running down the wing, smacks his opponent in the jaw then Joe should be sent off and the opposing team gets the free kick.

Re: What Happened between Florina and Gardens today ??
I have already commented on this and i am a qualified ref. If the ball is not in play, then the same restart occurs. So in this situation, the correct restart is the free kick from outside the box.Rexie wrote:Any offical refs care to comment on the "Dead ball" ruling. Swansong and ideas?

Thanks guys, That has cleared it up.
Just disappointing for us I guess knowing that, as it would have changed the score line of our first game from a draw to a win.
Oh well, it happens.

Re: What Happened between Florina and Gardens today ??
farmer joe, i will only say something when it is finalised with the amatuer league.
all i can say is i was right on the goal line and saw EVERYTHING when it happenned.
All i can say is no penalty was awarded as there was a free kick outside the box and that's when it started. ref never gave any penalties as suggested in this thread.
will let you know soon. half the stuff said was true and half crap! and the game had 2 mins left of injury time, with 2 min of injury time already played.

As a former qualified referee, I'd have to agree with Hawksey on this one.Hawkesy wrote:I have already commented on this and i am a qualified ref. You can't award a penalty if the ball is not in play !
You can send someone off, but not change a free kick to a penalty for a completely different offence.

The league haven't made a decision yet.
Appartently Gardens used the Chewbacca defence.
Anyone who watches South Park will get that joke!! Why is a wookie on the planet endor, that does not make sense. If it doesn't make sense then you must vote not guilty.

Re: What Happened between Florina and Gardens today ??
This would not be happening if the FFSA were in control of the Amatuer League because they would of stamped this behaviour out from day 1, and both teams would be deducted points heavily, fined heavily, and if it were a case of violence with people being hurt, then automatic suspension from the league for LIFE would follow. This is the Amatuer League for Gods sake fellas, your supposed to enjoy your Football. Go join the World Boxing Association if you have the urge to have punch ups.
Deduct 10 points off both teams, then see whether they ever fight again
not sure how accurate tis statement is? But any association that deals with all in brawls or brawls in general is going to better the game. As most have said the league needs to punish both clubs hard, eg points away etc. If spectators ran on and is proven then club fined heavily and especially if this is hit at the top clubs the lower ones may take notice. For too long the amature league has been a bubbling pool of talent which is going nowhere because of a minor few (players / spectators and clubs) Hard action will bring the sport a better name, quality players down when finishing in the 'top leageus', more spectators and lastly, hopefully more chances of the SAAFL of recruiting more refs, becasue seriously why would anyone want to ref is this league? No protection, no support and litte in the way of incentive to do this except for the love of the game.
Maybe SAAFL should do what the SANFL does and send umpires or in our case refs down from the top leageus on Saturday to ref or help ref on Sunday. This would provide more refs (hopefully better qualified refs) and more chance of there being more than one ref at a game to ensure no trouble.
Just a thought?

Your a fool. You don't even know what happened? For all you know it was hand bags at 50 paces. Have u been to an Amauter Aussie Rules game lately? There are plenty of punches and fights that go on. Besides this had nothing to do with the Ref, only the players and a handful of specators.adelaidepie wrote:This would not be happening if the FFSA were in control of the Amatuer League because they would of stamped this behaviour out from day 1, and both teams would be deducted points heavily, fined heavily, and if it were a case of violence with people being hurt, then automatic suspension from the league for LIFE would follow. Again, until we hear the Florina version, the Gardens version and the refs report, no one can really make a call like that. 10 points is stupid.
I think that it will be a suspended sentance and possibly a fine to Gardens. A warning to Florina. I only say that cause I have spoken to both Gardens and Florina members who have givern me their version.
