Lol. Was that the first game of sport you have ever attended??
Go to any sporting match, soccer, football, cricket what ever and people will call for frees for their team. Downs do it, we do it, Gardens obviously did on Sunday.

good point to make rexie. sad event. but think its best to leave these thingsRexie wrote:Though It was a good game in all. Both teams very unlucky to walk away with the win. Some terrible descisions both ways by the ref, pretty much cost both goals.
Good to see a few of the Parafield boys in for a drink after.
On a sour note though very disappointing to see one of your female supporters wonder over the pitch at half time and abuse one of our female supporters, to the point she was in tears. There is no need for that and it is a very good example of why Parafield do not have a reputation as being a family club, something we are stiving to achieve at the Downs.
I think something should be said to the lady who wondered over with clear intentions to upset someone whom is only there to support the players on the pitch. Grow up would be something that comes to mind.
Overall, cant wait for the return leg!

Totally agree with all the comments guys. But there is a time and a place, and its not at half time, when you decide to wonder over to the other side of the park to generally have a spit about nothing even soccer realted. It could have wiated till after the game.
So far as in the family enviro I mentioned, I may have overstepped the mark, but when the lady in question had her own child at the game, I just think its a little irresponsible.
How would you feel if another woman came over to your partenr and just started to abuse them, at half time, when they are not even sitting on the same side of the pitch. I certainly would not be happy about it, no matter what the background of the 2 are like. I really just do not see this as being appropriate. We all know that all the banter that happens from the side lines is just that, banter, but when it gets personal, and not evern soccer realted....... thats what I believe anyways.

Spoken like a true lawyer.avenell_road wrote:Surely there were reasons why the Parafield supporter abused the Downs supporter that were independent of either football club. It is not fair to claim that this is a reflection of the overall reputation or status of Parafield Gardens as a club as it is the isolated behaviour of an individual. It probably stems from history between the two people which has nothing to do with either club. If you are basing your judgements on the isolated behaviour of individuals, people from all clubs have overstepped the line, the Downs no less than anyone else. This does not mean such clubs are not "family clubs".Rexie wrote:Though It was a good game in all. Both teams very unlucky to walk away with the win. there's degree's of appealing, i heard a few downs supporter complaining against blatant off-sides given against their team. the garden supporters however were appealing like an indian spinner bowling on a sticky at eden gardens. maybe they were just trying to intimidate the ref/linesman but it was way over the top and generally looked bad.Jay Walking wrote:Lol. edit---- i have thought about what i posted all day.. and have decided it doesnt need to come out here. no satisfaction should be given this person to be able tor ead about what happenedimanoutlaw wrote:its obvious that the issue between the two supporters was non football related...... maybe the girls should leave this outside the ground as for the girl ending up in tears was there no one else there to tell her to f**k off?? if it was that bad why didn't a ground marshall step in and tell her to leave after all isn't that why we have club marshall's to control your own crowd??

Re: Downs v Gardens
I just read on the Local SA forum that Salisbury have signed Steve Hughes from the Downs. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Big loss for the Downs if true.

Re: Downs v Gardens
This was a great game of football to watch & credit to all the players involved.....
the only disappointment of the day was the serious leg injury to Matt Levay in his 1st league game in 2yrs for our club.
Matt broke his leg in 3 places in a 50/50 tackle going in hard as he allway's dose & has had a rod & few screws put in. We all wish him a speedy recovery & hope it's not to long before his kicking the leather again.
Thanks to the Downs for the hospitality & great day. Bring on the re-match!

Re: Downs v Gardens
Disappointing to lose Weazel in such away. Like Nelly said he has been missed around the club over the last 2 years starting a family & this year he finally managed to find time to have a kick again with the lads!
Unfortunatly its a very big loss to the first team squad but just means others will have to step up & now we have even more reason to lift the trophy at the end of the year
Wish ya all the best mate you'll be sorely missed by all the lads, all the supporters & everybody involved within Parafield Gardens!
Hope to a speedy recovery champ
Cheers to the Downs for all the assistance required on the day

Dug this up out of the shed today. It's from Soccer Scene, a dedicated Football newspaper put out by Messenger Press.
This was from 1981 Challenge Cup tie between Downs (Div 2) and Gardens (Div 1).
Gardens won 2-1. .Others in the photo are Andy Diggle, Reiner Hain and myself.
Downs went on to win Division 2 that season with Bob Clarke as coach.
