Why would Bergkamp get a mention? Van Basten retired in 93 so when talking about the last 16 years there is no point and Gullit, well mabye if we were talking about the last 20 years.

You can. My brother always get's it. I reckon he said before you can get it from Athelstone somewhere or West Lakes. I will ask him.

However, this 16 years issue won't be here for another few weeks.

Because Bergkamp is one of the best players I have ever seen live. Van Basten, well 93 is only 15 years ago, as for gullit well he left italy in 95, so 13 years ago.

I would consider those 3 to be the best players I have seen (admittedly only on tv) in the seria a.

I feel that to determine the greatest icon in Italian football of the past 16 yeas, they have to had done something great. All Bergkamp did was be part of an Inter team that was a point away from being relegated. He played nothing like he did at his Arsenal days.

Gullit mabye didn't have enough time to stake a claim as the best, that is whay I said perhaps if it were the last 20 years.

My brother said you can only (well as far as he knows) get the magazine from West Lakes. Can't get it at Athelstone anymore.

The newsagents near the Coles in Norwood, may well have it. They have a very extensive range.

Bergkamp flopped at Inter, don't blame him though as it was an era that everyone struggled at Inter. The club (we had four coaches in his two years) insisted on playing him as an out and out striker and he constantly complained about wanting to play behind two strikers (which we didn't have at the time). While he was at Inter Ruben Sosa carried his sorry a$$!

Van Basten was huge, Gullit ok but Milan could replace them, however Franco Baresi retirement saw Milan drop from champions to bottom half for two consecutive years and for that reason alone Franco Baresi hands down. That's without even mentioning his club and individual awards. After all how many defenders win FIFA World Player of the Year.

Would have been Ronaldo while he was at Inter but his knees wouldn't allow him to repeat his first 18 months in Italy.

Buffon worth a mention as well, how to give him credit for sticking around with that riff raff that recently got promoted from Serie B.

Il Zio also worth a mention as like Maldini went on to smash the club record for appearances over 20 seasons. But unlike Maldini has a world cup winners medal. Even though he looked 34 when he played as an 18 yo in the 82 World cup final
I don't like lies. I have understood your market where sometimes lies sell more than truth. This is your life and I don't like it. I understand your work and I have to work with you, but the protection of my group is much more important than you

 He was very good in that game. At 18 as well, he marked Ruminigge out of the game.

Francesco Totti is without doubt the best Italian player of the last 6 years by far, he is also one of the world's best players and one of the rarest talents you can find. Maldini was born and established into a rich side run by Italy's ex-Prime Minister and had the greatest squad at the time, but Totti was born into a cheap Roma team, who only spent money in 2001 and after spending that cash got bankrupt, he left fame, glory and most importantly money to one side and his love for Roma on the other, and we all know how that ended up...
Totti #1... Maldini..#2

I consider gazza to be one of the greatest to play the game ever. Certainly in my top 5. But that shows a bias by an English media outlet to have to have an Englishman in there. More likely to make headlines in England and increase circulation. He was never at his best after the 91 cup final, but italia 90 and his time up to 91, he was awesome.

Easily, the best player I have ever seen play.

I love my Lazio and there is no way Gazza should be there, I'd have Ronaldo, Sheva, Bergomi, Weah even Nedved above him.

English bias

i think gazza was a great player don't get me wrong, just wouldn't have him ahead of Van Basten or sheva for that matter. the positioning of Baresi behind Kaka is also a mystery. the problem with these ranking systems are that the present players tend to achieve greater importance due to current day exposure and the greatness of the players of the past are sometimes too easily forgotten.
