Clueless and very very very lucky Socceroos

What a heap of CRAP, should have been beaten by at least 3 goals if it wasn't for Schwarzer. Outplayed by a fitter faster more organized and more skillfull and more determined "TEAM". The Aussies were disjointed and you'de think they had never played together before. Very very very very lucky to get a point, but that is a very valuable point, and surely they can only get better ?????????? Typical, a Boro player man of the match . I thought they said in the build up that there was 5,000 Aussies there? I only saw about 500. Poor attendance

at least this game will be a good reality check for the boys. they must have got carried away with the favouritism and just assumed that it wouldn't get tough til the knockout stages.

lucas neill said the team would start off slowly and get better as the tournament goes on. they better get better cos if they fail to make it out of the group it will be one of the all-time greatest failures of the socceroos. they need to start playing a better game NOW cos japan and iran aren't the only teams capable of beating us. oman can too.

Absolute fucking shit performance tonight. No structure at the back, everyone looked tired and didn't showed enough respect to Oman. Heres my player by player assesment:
Mark Schwarzer : Played very well. Good saves in 2nd half. one of the few players that can hold his head high.

Lucas Neill : Better than his game against Singapore but still not up to his world cup standard. One of the better defenders and should improve during the tournament.
Patrick Kisnorbo : Play ok on the last line. Did some good things but was caught out of position many times and not totally secure.
Jason Culina: Had a quit game. did not uses the ball effectively or create any plays.
Brett Emerton : Conceded many fouls and couldn't get into the game. was well marked by the Omanians and had no room to move or run the ball.
Luke Wilkshire : Set plays were dissapointing apart from one or two. needs to get better at his defensive game and also at his set plays. Was not up to scratch tonight.
Mark Viduka : You could tell that he didn't want to be out there. Should not play if not 100 percent committed. Should put as much effort for his country as with his club. However used his body well a few times but didn't have an effect on the game.
Harry Kewell : Looked lacklustre tonight. Not up to his usual flare. Looked tired even though he created and had a few chances at goal. Will improve throughout the tournament. Looked Frustrated. Maybe come on as a substitute to break the game open next time.
Vince Grella : Played crap tonight. Looked very tired early and didn't have his usual thorough possesion game. Didn't create chances like he should .
Mile Sterjovski : Tried hard but didn't use the ball well and was well marked. didn't have any space which we missed on the wings. Needs to do better.
Mark Bresciano: :
Similar to grella. Didn't play well. He should do the set pieces instead of wilkshit.
Tim Cahill:Couldn't ask for more. Scored our goal. Looked good and should start next game. Can hold his head up high.
Brett Holman: Came on for limited time but made a positive impact. had more intensity than say Viduka or Emerton. Got the ball a bit around the box in the dying minutes.
John Aloisi
: Nearly got a penalty for australia for a push. Nearly scored the goal anyway. Didn't make an imapct on the game although he provided us with fresh legs. Maybe start next time. Would be dissapointed.

very average display, we looked slow. when they had the ball they ran at us where we didnt take on players. yes they played acted a hell of a lot. they got to bring in a rule that if you need the stretcher to go off you have to stay off for 5 or so mins just its just blatant time wasting and frustrating! well done Schwarzer, kept us in the game!

Australia's lines were too far streched. This is probably Australia's biggest problem when having to hold possession. The players especially the wider players tend to start along the last line, when really they should be positioning themselves in a position to recieve the ball and run at the defenders. Instead they are recieving the ball with their backs towards the goal, and having to try and turn the defenders, but this was giving the other players in Omans team to cover the holes. As time went on, the longer ball was used, due to this fact. What should of been done is for the wingers to hold back 10m from the last line, and have the wingback just behind, thus creating more options, and having supporting links more closer to each other. If you play this, it gives the ability to 1. Run at the defender 2. Cut into play 3. Cut into play and pass towards Dukes and run at the line for a one two. 4. Create the overlap 5. Pass back to the wingback to pass back to the DM to switch play, etc. etc. This probably would mean an advantage in having Bresciano on the left and Kewell on the right, so they have the ability to cut into play. This is a highly successful system which is commonly used in Italy, and France.
It also seems Australia is too afraid to get the crosses in the box, always wanting to go central, which was hard to get players around Viduka, cause they (the wing players) were situated already on the last line, not running into goals.

When they interviewed Cahill after the match, he said Arnold had an agreement with Everton that he only plays half an hour!
How long does this deal last and is he ever going to be available for a full game in this tournament :?:

Arnold was completely out classed, the question I have asked myself is what would happen if australia go 1-0 down, if arnold was savvy enough to be able to change the game. HE COULDNT

I thought I was watching a kosmina like Adelaide united tactical performance.

had no one who could create that little bit of magic to create a change. As soon as Aloisi came on, I new Australia would rely on long ball barrage.

few me, nicky carle would of been a better option then holman, carle would of least been able to bit his foot on the ball and create that special bit of class and vision to have some impact against a very well drilled Oman team,

Arnold was very very much out coached today, and his ignorance of a team that was always going to be playing counter attack football, and had no idea, how to play against it.

each team Australia plays is going to play counter attacking, and unless Arnold can work on a way to combat that, australia could be in doubt of even qualifying.

Arnold needs to know how to change a game as a coach, and he had no idea last night

Those people intimating they want Arnold sacked should consider the following; The Socceroos players are supposedly World Class, so they should be looking in a mirror(not to see how wonderful they look) and be honest with themselves. They are the ones who have to play the game, and blind freddy would know that the experienced players would have input to the game plan with the coaches, but the players overall failed miserably. If there is an ego problem, should not be anymore they have been pricked and burst. Or are some of the players only there on past glory.

A good idea is to wait till the Tournament is played out, and if the team fails from hereon then heads will roll and it wont be just Arnold's.

First let me state i am NO fan of Graham Arnold, however he can only do so much but when you get these primadonas of his who go out on a park thinking they are great all because they played in a Round of 16 game at the Wolrd Cup, what do you expect the coach to do???
They played with no interest or urgency in that 1st half, and grossly underestimated their opponents, showed them no respect whatsoever and nearly payed or it from behind which should of happened so they could learn a lesson. I saw the opening game of Thailand v Iraq and if you thought Oman were good, think again because that Iraq team looked quality to me and Thailand were pretty damn fine as well. Thank God for Cahill.............AGAIN.

If we are even going to qualify for the next stage of this tournament then we better hope we get much much better or just hope that Mark Schwarzer can have a great game in every match he plays

SHOCKING PERFORMANCE

Australia v Oman

Post by ozzie owl »

Thank god for Cahill and Schwarzer.

With out Schwarzer we would have been down 3 - 0 . the defense was terrible while the defensive shield of Cullina and Grella did not do the job. We have stop using part time defenders like Emmerton and Wilskshire, looking at the squad make they are not a lot of choices. The build up play was slow and ponderous. All in all a lucky draw.

As for the time wasting, solution is simple but brutal the rules on the injured players should be amended as follows;

The referee offers the player injured the choice get up or go off on stretcher. However if he takes the stretcher option then he cannot return for a full five minutes. I know this will affect genuine injured players but surely cut out the crap last night.

Or if that is too draconian, allow the fourth official to be the sole judge of time and add on time for all injuries subsitutions etc.

Not a fan of Arnolds and have always suspected that Guus has already signed to comeback after the European Championships (well lets hope so) FFA are saving money by keeping Arnold and it certainly looks like they underestimated the opposition. I think Arnold tried to copy Guus - work the players really hard to they improve their fitness and run all over teams at the end. Looks like it backfired the heat in Asia is very different to Europe and the team looked drained during the warm up. Having said all that 1-0 at halftime and people are asking for the coach to get sacked that's crazy talk. Those that follow World Cups etc will tell you that the winners often start slowly - I still believe Australia will come good hopefully they have a day or so to recover do a light session and step up a gear versus Iraq

All this put the ball out of play when someone goes down is rubbish. To stop play or not is a decision that should be left to the referee, and the players on the park should get on with the game until the referee stops it.

having said that Australia played rubbish and we were lucky to get a draw.

The pre-tournament training has obviously overworked the players and now the are stuffed. The training has been focused on fitness and not ball-work. I doubt guus will be back but it would be great if he does return. Arnold needs to go and manage a club before being experienced enough to manage at international level.

Australia's plan was to start slowly and this is where they underestimated the group stage. they think they can beat oman, iraq and thailand playing at half their best. These teams will punish you if you play like shit so they better step up big time when they face iraq.

To fix the stretcher problems, a rule must come in that if the stretcher comes on to the pitch at all, regardless of whether the player actually uses it, that player must go off the pitch for five minutes. Otherwise, players will fake injury until the stretcher comes out and then simply get up an play.

wouldnt it be better to have bresh behind the strikers so he can shoot and supply more?

then put cullina upfront on the right or left with harry

like:

The second biggest issue (after the pathetic amateur like defense) was that all out players were standing around.

We got the ball and stood still. The ball carrier was only walking and everone else was standing still.

Neill Blasts 'Unprofessional' Oman Behaviour

Australian defender Lucas Neill has blasted the time-wasting tactics of Oman after the teams played out a 1-1 draw in their first game of the Asian Cup yesterday.

The Omanis went into the lead after 32 minutes and Neill believes that the Oman players subsequently went down at every opportunity to in an attempt to stop Australia building momentum.

“We knew that was going to happen. You want to kick the ball out, but after a while it gets extremely unprofessional," Neill said.

"The sniper in the stands had a field day. Everyone was dropping like flies. It's frustrating, but that's the sort of things we're going to come up against and we've just got to rise above it."

"How can you officiate it? If a guy goes down you have to presume he's injured because eventually it will be like 'cry wolf'."

"Eventually one guy will be injured and they'll get hammered for not stopping the play or us not kicking the ball out. It's tough."

Tim Cahill equalized in the last minute to earn a point for the below-par Socceroos.

Funny that I would of called that behaviour 'professional'!

but still... already complaining... they got sucked in by semi-professional players and still havent learned.

i still think australia will win the next 2 and go far, they have to... but Arnold is a joke, the team has no style, at least they are fit...

puke is exactly what he is. total crap always has always will be. soft cockk tackles, useless balls, bar one he fluked, NFI as an international player. can't believe he's still in the squad - absolute waste. he must be givin arnie rubdowns to stay in the squad! he was the one that cost us the world cup, his man that bresc was covering, wtf was the right midfielder (pukeshire) that night? anyway, got that out of my system, just can't stand hearltless farrkers like him getting the breaks when many better than him.

the whole team played flat except the 2 heroes schwazza and Timmmy!

i mentioned in another post that their conditioning coach was in australia commentating on Fox - and he looked overweight and "unconditioned" :o

what's going on with this team? very poor management :!: :!:

Maybe he was fit but is now retired and using his knowledge to train the players. He is most likely a sports scientist dealing with cabohydrate/lipid utilisation and hydration issues that affect performance! It takes 8 good days to taper and recieve the benefits of hard training, just ask a marathon runner why they take it easy 2 weeks before a race!
