Arsenal are close to signing 41-year-old Jens Lehmann for the rest of the season, BBC Sport understands.

Injuries to Wojciech Szczesny, Lukasz Fabianski and Vito Mannone have left Manuel Almunia as the only fit keeper.

The ex-Germany keeper played 199 times for Arsenal between 2003 and 2008 but has been a free agent since retiring in 2010 after two years with Stuttgart.

If the deal is done in time, Lehmann is likely to be included in the squad for Saturday's trip to West Brom.

Lehmann, who played 61 times for Germany, left Arsenal in 2008 after losing his place to Almunia.

The German keeper was part of Arsenal's "Invincibles" - the team that went unbeaten during the 2003-2004 season - helping the Gunners win the Premier League, while he played a key role in their FA Cup final penalty shoot-out win over Manchester United in 2005.

The following year he was sent off in the first-half of Arsenal's Champions League final defeat to Barcelona in the Stade de France.

Between August 2003 and June 2007, Lehmann kept the second most clean sheets - 52 - in the Premier League, just one behind Chelsea keeper Petr Cech.

Before his first spell with Arsenal, the German keeper played for Schalke, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund.

Fabianski, who last played since for Arsenal in the 0-0 draw with Manchester City on 5 January, has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury, while compatriot Szczesny will miss the next six weeks after dislocating his finger during the Champions League defeat by Barcelona last week.

And Mannone, who has teen troubled by a thigh injury while on loan at Hull, is also out for six weeks.

The Italian keeper is receiving treatment at the Arsenal training ground.
Almunia must be pissed
Aluminium is still the first choice between those two though surely?

Yeah, Lehmann's just on the bench. Arsenal's only other uninjured goalkeeper is James Shea (who's 19):

To be fair to le Arse, if Liverpool lost Reina and Jones, or ManU van der Sar and their second choice (Kuscak?), they'd be in lots of trouble too. Actually, if either of them even lost their first choice, they'd be in trouble...

I see the Goons have hiked their season ticket prices by 6.5% for next year. A lot of unhappy bunnies in North London.

This is a surprise why :?: The season ticket has now been the same price since the last season at highbury in 05/06 :?
After 4 full seasons at a certain price I think a club reserves the right to do this after such an honour to fans

I think they said they were going to freeze ticket prices until they won something. A bit like waiting for Hell to freeze over?

See now I could go and change your quote to say the same and mention that the spuds will do the same when they win the premiership
But I wont  Because neither will Tottenham win anything worth mentioning :D

I think most Goons have had a humour bypass. Must be a condition of entry to the new Library.

Not me. Evidence or STFU.

Now that the Woolwich Wanderers have once again imploded and run off with their usual haul of trophies (Emirates Cup), here's hoping that they get spanked by Young Boys (Wenger would be happy with that  ) in Champions League qualifying and then draw Spurs in the Europa Cup where we can embarrass them 5-1.

Happy Days

You're not from London so I'll forgive your geographic ignorance. Woolwich to Ashburton Grove is an emigration. Spurs were simply going on a short break. Btw the OS was 8km away from WHL, that's closer than Anfield is to central Liverpool.
