Re: BESA SUPPORTERS SEND REFEREE TO HOSPITAL
I agree with 0tto 100% that no-one has the right to assault you no matter what they say. But in saying that I would also agree with Bombers point of most people would react, even if they don't have the right to.Bomber wrote:Not really, I wont do that. If someone said something in my face derogatory about my mother (for example), yes you may cop something more than a word or two. A lot depends on HOW it is said. In saying "It happens" it sounds like you are condoning assaulting someone if what is said is sufficiently provocative.
I'm saying, that no matter what someone says to you, you have no right to assault them.
Can you please confirm that you agree there is no excuse for assaulting someone just because of a verbal exchange.
I dare say most would do the same.
Therefore whilst you may say I have no right to assault them, I would say they have no right to use derogatory terms in the first place.

Very good point.6 Million Dinar Man wrote:I think it's great that this story is getting some wider exposure.
No one likes bad publicity... and it might be just what is needed prompt the authorities / SAASL to do something about it and go after these guys.
For example:
- If the article mentions that the police were called an hour before and rocked up late, it might get them to rock up on time the next time.
- If SAASL is exposed for lack of action, it might actually get them to do something about it this time and also in the future.

Re: BESA SUPPORTERS SEND REFEREE TO HOSPITAL
Hi Everyone,
As a journalism student and a blog writer for AUFC fansite, ill tell you exactly how this story will go:
1) Bag soccer
2) Ethnic hooliganism
3) BESA president will say, "we are embarrassed by our supporters actions and we have banned them"
4) SAASL will say, "We are investigating the incident through correct channels but cannot comment further"
5) Journalist will make some mention of violence in soccer
This is what people want to read, it sells papers and keeps the stereotype of football supporters alive and kicking. But don't knock the journo, he's guided by his editor and the editor's requests for this story. He is told to report on this and the editor is looking for the controversy.
Having said this though, I'm sure we can all acknowledge that this story IS big enough to warrant a story in a paper (negative or positive). It's deplorable what's happened.

Re: BESA SUPPORTERS SEND REFEREE TO HOSPITAL
I think that we should sweep it under the carpet & pretend that it didn't happen,
give them No Punishment & allow BESA to continue to play just like they did with Salisbury Villa for years.

Sorry to pop your excuse, but 'most' people don't/wouldn't do the same.
There are plenty of other options if someone abuses you verbally - try claming the situation down, or walking away, or calling the police if it's that serious.
But really, you'd assault someone for saying something about your mother? How old are you?
Besides your mother likes being called filthy names, at least that's what she told the last football team that shagged her.

Ooops, did I step over the line?
