I think we will be ok this year but stranger things can happen. This time last year a few people thought we would get relegated.
All teams only 2-3 players and they become very dangerous. We only picked up 3 last year and lost 1 coming from Div 2. West Beach only needs 2 players and they will threaten.
For me, the improvers next year will be Westies and Florina.
I think Easties could struggle.
Ponitans are the real unknown because we haven't heard anything about them. Age is against them but experience is so important in Div 1.
USC Lion were poor the first time we played them but proved to be a good side. They are only 2 players away from been a very big threat to the Downs.
You never know with the Vale. After half way through last year they were a chance to be relegated, by the end of the season they were in the best couple of teams going around.
Downs will of course be strong, not need to keep talking about them.
Gardens are an interesting one as they have lost a couple but I'm sure Steve Cook is working on his contacts to bring some good players to the club.
Whats happening in Div 2. How is Brad looking at Inter? Are most of last years guys hanging around. They can build a good defence around Scott Wilson. All they lacked last year was depth in the middle and a quality out and out striker.
As for us, we got on a roll for about 10 games but then hit a wall. We also only took 1 point from 12 in the first 4 games. If we are any sort of chance we can not give teams that kind of lead.

I hear Florina has signed a couple Cocky, you were goin well last season till injuries struck..alm01 wrote:robbo come on seriously..is that a diplomatic answer cause farm 6th i highly doubt..if you keep same team and gain some you would be the team pressing downs - surely..
Its not diplimatic, its a guess, Pontian seem confidant, Downs have recruited 1 or 2, Westies have a whole new team.
Will be interesting to see if Downs actually win it again, time will tell

We tried picking up Robbo but he was to big for us.herewego wrote:have ingle farm picked up any players so far, and have they lost any? i hear the ex modbury vista coach has moved there so he has a chance of winning something
Only 1 week of preseason has gone so to early to say who is going, staying and coming. We have asked a couple to come and have a look. As far as I know, nobody has left. Only one person may have gone because we haven't heard from him in a while but who knows.
Billy has taken on the B team job. Alan is working with Simo to coach our A's.

They were one of the best teams in the last 8 weeks of last year. As far as I know Steven Spiby is the only one to move on and the new coach is bringing a couple. Thats all I know.Monkey Boy wrote:Jay, So why do you think that Westies will be the big movers? Who have they picked up then? Heard a rumour Torsten was back with you guys?
As for Torsten, he trained with us on Thursday. Still not sure of his intentions as work is his main concern. If he ends up working back in the mines, he may end up back at Gleeson. He may go back there even if he doesnt go back to the mines. I hope he stays. Toasty/Jonesy forward line sounds nice to me. Still got Alby and Ricky to.
