From a quick glance it would appear that if all games from round 1 to 14 (inclusive) were brought forward one week you would align the games to have triple headers for all home fixtures. I am sure that the league would have no problem as long as every team in that division agree to moving forward rounds 1 - 14.
Just spoke to the league, she said it looks like a typo and they will clarify at the meeting tonight.
Yep Typo, confirmed last night...
Also a few Div 2 clubs pushed very hard for a 10 team comp, we will wait and see if the points put across sink in.
So what came out of the meeting last night concerning our division?
Anything on 9 team comp??
Did we rectify the issue with div7c starting on the 14th of April insted of the 21st?? (presume it was an error on the leagues behalf)
Any news??
You couldn't wait 2 minutes
Unfortunately the next in line Div 3 sides refused to come up to Div 2.
The only out come I can see is an 8 team comp (no byes) , reinstated Budapest/Breakers or USC Lions to not chop and change
when they feel like it and play in the Div they are supposed to be in.

Ahh... thats great!! Thanks for that Franco
Do you think anything will come out of the push for a 10 team comp?? Did they provide any feedback?

The ball is in SAASL court.......No feedback really, hopefully we put a good enough case across and they see 9 teams just won't work.

I spoke to our chairman last night. It seems that no many of the Saturday Division 2 clubs stayed back to discuss the matter.
Ultimately the league created a dangerous precedent when they allowed Port Pirie and USC Lion access to higher divisions.
By not making Division 2 a ten team league they breach their own rules.
Rule 3(b) states the following
(b) There shall be ten teams competing in each division or section of a division with the
exception of the lowest division or section of a division competing in its appropriate
league championship which may have more or less than ten teams.
Rules 4(c) & (d)
(c) When vacancies occur in higher divisions through the resignation or disbandment of
teams, or any other cause, the vacancies shall be filled by the teams next in line for
promotion from the next lower division.
(d) When the interest of the League is best served, the Management Committee shall
have the power to adjust the numerical composition of teams in the two lowest
divisions.

There were 3 clubs but only 2 seemed concerned...The other was more about aligning their C's...
I wonder if they will be concerned when they tell their members there will be 2 byes during the season
Paleon Patros Germanos wrote:If that is the case Franco, the League will come back and say only one-third of clubs showed any dissatisfaction with the 9 Team League.
The other six clubs may be happy with the current situation and that is their prerogative.
My opinion is that the League needs to apply its rules on a consistent basis and not pick and choose the policies that will apply.
Amen....
So if they do that what happens next season....1 or 2 get relegated....2 or 3 come up.
It's a shamozle if left as 9.....Pull the band aid off quickly, get it to a 10 team league by reinstating Budapest/ Breakers or tell
Lion to play in the Div they are supposed to be in, no more favors.

Thanks for having a go us!! We have already contaced the league regading this issue and will continue to do so!! But Wiith only 3 clubs represnting DIV 2 last night, they may not take it seriously - As it may be "too much work" for them - And thats a quote! maybe we can get a rep from each club in div 2 and have a serious meeting with them!

Anyone that reads this needs to contact their Chairman/President and make sure they have put our point across to the league.
From what I can tell so far only Vipers, Titans and Cougars have raised concerns...We need all Div 2 clubs to make a fuss.
Are there clubs in div 3 that are reluctant to play div 2 ? is that part of the problem ?
This will seem like a crazy suggestion, and not knowing where everyone finished last season, but why not move the Flinders teams up
( the div 3 side to div 2, and div 4 side to div 3 ? ) and they have a C team as well ??

Flinders definitely do not want to go up.
There wouldn't be a fuss if teams played in the division they are supposed to be in, we would have a 10 team competition with the
1 extra being promoted from Div 3 (gleeson) to take the place of the defunct Allstars.

And herein lies most of our problems.
1. The next club-in-line is given the option of being promoted when it should be automatically promoted.
2. Clubs are allowed to move up and down the leagues outside of the promotion and relegation system.
3. Clubs disband two or three weeks before the league season starts. Do these clubs not have a responsibility to the SAASL as a whole?
So if they do that what happens next season....1 or 2 get relegated....2 or 3 come up.

Two will get relegated, 3 will be promoted.
I don't care what happens as long as Div's 1-3 have 10 A and B teams in them.
The fact that Lion now entered 2 teams means there's no reason why they shouldn't play in Div 2.
Also having played in both games against them on the weekend the quality of the club is more than sufficient for Div 2.....
I thought clubs would jump at the opportunity to play Div 2 to be honest. What factors are holding them back? I guess we should say kudos to Gleeson for accepting otherwise it would be 8 teams!

8 would be better than 9.......
from what I heard they were worried about being thumped every week....
Paleon Patros Germanos wrote:Where did the Falcons finish last year?
5th, so next in line would be Murray Bridge who finished 4th....
So theres a few options in order of how it really should have been done.
(1) Reinstate USC Lion in Div 2, if that doesn't happen for whatever reason then;
(2) Promote Murray Bridge who also have a very strong first team, if that doesn't happen for whatever reason then;
(3) Unrelegate whoever finished 9th in Div 2 last year so Budapest I think.
Then fill the Div 3 shortfall with the next highest team from Div 4 after Flinders who already have a team in Div 3 because as I understand all but the lowest division should have 10 A and B teams according to SAASL regulations.

(2) Promote Murray Bridge who also have a very strong first team, if that doesn't happen for whatever reason then;

As far as I am aware that option has not been put to us! :? We were offered two places in Div3 which we declined in part because we did not want to have to play our selves, if Both teams were promoted that may be an option. The other concern was playing competitivley in which ever divisions we are in and so far that has not changed, but then again we have not been looking at each of our teams playing a division higher. Again if this was put to us as a serious offer I am sure we would look at it.
I tend though to agree that it would seem most logical that if USC Lion have enough players for an A&B team that they remain in Div 2.
I am already not happy that we will be having to play them in Div 4 this year as if they have retained only 5 or 6 players from there Div 2 squad from last year they will automaticaly become one of the strongest teams in Div 4. As I understand the only reason they dropped out of Div 2 in the first place was because they could not feild enough players for an A&B squad. That issue has obviously been fixed so they should remain in Div 2 if they have lost only quality then so be let natural selection take it's toll and in 2 seasons time they will be in Div 4 anyway!
We have promotion and relegation for a reason those teams capable of playing at the highest level do so and those who can't don't!!
This applies to both us at Flinders (If we had been good enough we would have been promoted) and to USC Lion if they stay in DIv 2 and perform badly they will get relagated. That's football!
As soon as we move teams arbitrarily around the division we just create further problems.

Budapest finished 1 point behind Lion as I recall – came down to the last game in which Lion won in what the whispers are interesting circumstances – I know there is inference in that but to be quite honest there are no facts or anything of the like so it may have all been above board and the benefit of the doubt is that is was.
The point is Lions team was also strengthened during the season and so you would assume that it was their desire to stay in Div 2 – if it is true that they are now fielding A’s and B’s then Div 2 is where they should be playing.
For Budapest to be relegated by 1pt in light of the debacle that has occurred is a bit disappointing.
the obvious solution to this is USC Lion should stay in division 2 if they can field 2 teams if that was where they were last year, seems like an easy way to win trophies, lets drop out of our division and start again and probably win div 4 then div 3!!!!
there is 12 teams in div4 just now!!!
