Re: AMATUER LEAGUE ?????????
In most cases the income just covers their expenses, so there's no real money to be made, but i'm sure there are some exceptions.
If the clubs are generating good cash flow from sponsors and supporters who love and live for their club and environment then who really cares amatuer or not!!!! The only difference between amateur and federation is the 20-40k annual fee being coffed up by the federation clubs (generally paid for by the junior parents up to 700-800 per season), which the amateur clubs can save on.

Why are you so against debates on the status of amateur (spelt correctly) clubs and the payments made to players. Do you have a hidden agenda; (semi-colon used correctly) or are you just a piss-take artist. (used correctly as a colloquilism - spelt correctly ).
Also, on your propensity (spelt correctly) for puns - 2 quotes for your delectation (spelt and used correctly)
"Hanging is too good for a man who makes puns; he should be drawn and quoted"
Fred Allen
and possibly more appropriately, given the majority of your puns:
"A man who could make so vile a pun would not scruple to pick a pocket"
John Dennis

I agree no players should be paid its amatuer league. The league should change its name if players are being paid.

As for puns, having been deaf in one ear for most of my life, I tend to listen carefully to words in case I have misheard them, hence I look for other words that may sound the same.
As a consequence I became interested in paronomasia and the use of homographic, homophonic and double-sound puns.
My apologies if it offends you but the Bible and Shakespeare made use of puns throughout.
The Olympic Games used to be an amateur competition...times change !

Re: AMATUER LEAGUE ?????????
this has been done to death on here (do a search).
it's quite simple:
- the SAASL (as does the FFA) uses the rules from the ATO about player payments not having to be declared as the threshold for amateurism.
-the ATO says that sportspeople are 'amateur' if they receive as payment (for 'expenses') of $99 or less per game. anything else on top of that is deemed taxable income (therefore the player is 'professional').
- the SAASL rules reflect this by saying that: (i) any player that receives more than $99 per game is a 'professional'; (ii) 'professional' players are not allowed to play in the SAASL.
- any team that pays any player more than $99 per game is cheating. simple. black and white.
impossible to police, though.

Majority of people know about the $99 cap, but openly flout it - as you said it's impossible to police so therefore hardly anyone takes any notice of it.Dickie Knee wrote: - any team that pays any player more than $99 per game is cheating. simple. black and white.

It's pretty sad that clubs openly cheat (even boast about it) and the league turns at best a blind eye to it.
If this cheating is seen to be acceptable, where do we stop? Can clubs start bribing refs because they can afford it and they are well supported?

If "cheating" is helping you win thus getting the crowds down thus making it profitable and helping make a high standard with in league then im in for cheatingBlackBrian_7 wrote:It's pretty sad that clubs openly cheat (even boast about it) and the league turns at best a blind eye to it.

Most likely because it's against the rules.Vale_boy05 wrote: I cant see why anybody cares to be honest..........
Not to say I agree with it - should be scrapped because no one follows it anyway.
If the club has cash to spend then they don't refer to the '$99 rule' - they pay whatever is necessary to attain thier services.

Though to be honest I don't think it would be many of the amateur league clubs that would pay players, let alone pay them more than a $100 a week.

Out of the 100 or so clubs in the league I would be surprised if it was more than 10-12.Wraith wrote:You'd actually be pleasantly surprised....BlackBrian_7 wrote: Though to be honest I don't think it would be many of the amateur league clubs that would pay players, let alone pay them more than a $100 a week.
