The SA 14's lost 3:1. I was told that it was a very hard game; NSW Metro is winner of last years tournament and the yard stick for all teams. They move fast, strong and with great intensity. Our boys played well but did more defending than attacking. NSW would move forward faster and with greater numbers, causing our midfield and defence many headaches. When we did get the ball up we were struggling with numbers due to the quick turn around.

Good luck to the SA boys, coach and staff.

Northern NSW Sides Find Mixed Results On Day 1 at the FFA National Youth Championships for Boys

In a first for Northern NSW Football, the state is represented at the FFA National Youth Championships for Boys by two sides in both the Under 13s and Under 14s age divisions - Country and Metropolitan.

Northern NSW Country sides are made up of players from Northern NSW Football’s four Northern zones; Mid North Coast, North Coast, Far North Coast and Northern Inland, with Metropolitan players originating from the three Southern zones; Hunter Valley, Macquarie and Newcastle.

The 13’s Boys sides both suffered defeat, with Northern NSW Country going down 2-0 to Tasmania and Northern NSW Metropolitan receiving a 6-0 beating from Queensland Metropolitan.

However, the Under 14’s sides faired better than their younger Northern NSW counterparts. Northern NSW Metropolitan found themselves a goal down early in the second half, before Alex Tserapas retaliated just one minute later to equalise the score at 1-1 where it remained until fulltime.

The Northern NSW Country Under 14’s side was the only Northern side to claim victory on Day 1 of the Championships, holding on to defeat Tasmania 3-2. 1-0 behind after 14 minutes, a goal from Quinlan Cox and a brace courtesy of Sheldon O’Loughlan put the team 3-1 ahead at halftime.

Tasmania scored the only second half goal, but were unable to equalise, leaving Northern NSW Country the winners.

Hmm.. NSW Metro..Always a strong team due to population...
Vic Metro will be interesting.. I see they lost to W.A.. That would have been a big upset;)
Last year Victoria Metro were undefeated at the Nationals in this age group but had the title given to NSW Metro after bonus points were awarded.

I am just a dumb skip and know nothing about soccer other than the ball is red or yellow if played at night.

U/13 state sapsasa team finishes second in a recent tournament with similar or exact same states. (which I believe did not hold one STIC player)

U13 STIC team struggling to beat anyone

Am I missing something here?
Surely this team should be way better than the state sapsasa team.

Are we saying that the FFSA is that far behind all other states that our sapsasa kids dominate yet we can't even compete?

I have to ask again is the selection process or nomination process up to scratch?

Something is not right to have such a drop, maybe as I stated I just have no clue.

Dear D S,

SA played 2 of the Teams that have a bigger pools to pick from ie QLD Metro + NSW Metro and lost both 1-3.

They then Played Vic Metro who have a bigger pool to pick from and won 1-0

They played WA who have a similar size pool and won 5-1

They sit 4th with 6Pts and 2 games left to play against Nth Qld and NSW Country who both probably have similar size pools to pick from.

I dont understand why the points and winning are SO IMPORTANT to you and your mates , These are 12 year old boys representing their State and developing. It would appear to me that SA may be moving in the right direction , given lesser playing resources than some States.

If you research player development at Proffesional Clubs in Europe you will find RESULTS are irrelevant untill players reach The 1st team. Yet your mates and yourself are intent on WINNING Trophies as a sign of DEVELOPMENT.

You're like a dog with a bone aren't you....leave the Kids alone.
Different team, different age group, different Comp.
2 wins, 2 losses so far is not what I would call "struggling to beat anyone".

Well I thought the Future of Australian Football.

If the best player SA junior football has seen in many years says no I won't leave my club to play Skillaroos, does that mean FFSA wash their hands of this player?

Again forget the kids selected, let's talk about the ones not and what happens to them, do we see them in 10 years scoring for their parents country of birth and say what went wrong there?

So the Skillaroos squad should be 50 then ?

You haven't heard of the 'shadow' squad that will also be training ?

The daily photo albums updates, which appear to cover most matches have been fantastic!
Wonderful memories of an exciting time for all involved :)

U14's off to a great start this morning with a 2 nil win over NSW country :D And it also looks very promising for the U13's.. who could finish near the top of the table!
Will be interesting to see how the bonus points are given out
We all know results aren't everything, but it sounds like both S.A teams have been right up there with the best. Well done and good luck to all in the superteam selections this afternoon, if they dont finish top of their divisions.
All looking very good for football development in S.A!

Shame shame shame.

Could have been a better result if the kids hadnt arrived 9pm on the night before their 9:00am kick off. The boys started slow but as the comp progressed they showed the quality football we have seen them play. Congratulations also to the coaching staff for enabling the boys to play good possesion football.
