Will the FFA put players' names on their shirts?
I wonder if the FFA underlings will bother to put players' names on Socceroo shirts for the upcoming home games against Malaysia and Oman.
Recently it looked so incomplete & unprofessional in the stadium & on national TV that the largely unknown Olyroos didn't have their names on the back of their shirts.
T-shirt City reckon it costs an average of $12 to put that lettering on, so I hope they get that right. And in the past how hopeless were some of those underling committees to not even get that right when they remembered to iron on the names? Fiddly, small-font lettering & 8-inch (20cm) hockey-shirt size numbers, etc that were barely discernible.
It should be decent-size, solid 10-inch (26 cm) numbers & 3.5 inch (9 cm) player's name so they are easily visible.
and ps, I wonder if the FFA standardised shirt numbers and names on A-League clubs shirts as is done in the EPL? No walking billboard advertising on the back of shirts - just a 10-inch number & 3.5-inch lettering of the player's name.
Cynics will say this is a small matter, but there's nothing wrong with meticulous, professional attention to detail for what is still a minor sport in this country.

That's what forums are for - even small issues.DOC wrote:really? a whole topic about this now?
Yes, I can understand some cynicism. But Doc, imagine - good crowds in Canberra & Sydney and a national-wide TV audience for the next 2 games of the Socceroos & something as basic & professional as this being overlooked by some committee.
And I bet you too want to see more neutral newcomers start to follow the game & that they can identify the players easily..
Re: Will the FFA put players' names on their shirts?
um a lot of national teams do it now, plus ross county played celtic at hampden in a cup semi and didn't have names on the back of their shirts, get over it

I thought it was odd they didn't have the namesCon wrote:I wonder if the FFA underlings will bother to put players' names on Socceroo shirts for the upcoming home games against Malaysia and Oman.

It's about the badge on the front not the name on the back!!!

Thanks Petro83.Petro83 wrote:its only a topic, let ppl post topics about anything, whocares really...
I didn't think this minor topic would upset some...
True, Rooboy1986 - the Kangaroo & Emu Coat-of-Arms/badge on the front is more important, but what can it hurt for some slack FFA underlings to organize the player names on the back?
Porky posted that he noticed the names were missing. It looks incomplete.
I ask again - shouldn't we care if this small attention to detail helps attract newcomers to the game we love?

found it the other day at the bottom of my wardrobe....its in a frame now behind glass....worth keeping for sure.the_gun wrote:ive got four of those tickets.
Re: Will the FFA put players' names on their shirts?
Doc, I take it all back! Wot happened?
Did you see that some FFA underling or waterboy actually bothered to put the names on our players' shirts for the Malaysia game?
Must have cost at least $12 average per shirt & a bit of the underling's precious time to take care of this small, but important detail...

Luckily, the Malaysians didn't have their names on their shirts...

FFS, winzor. Tell Doc even the lowly A-League put players' names on their shirts, or haven't you noticed?winzor wrote:Luckily, the Malaysians didn't have their names on their shirts...
Don't you give a farrrk about doing all the little things to attract non-football fans in this country to our game?

Most countries don't have names on their shirts for qualifiers.
When I have people around for dinner I make sure I set aside a couple of options for vegetarians.
They can make do or they can fuçk off !!

Well, it's not up to us to tell the Malaysians what to do...Con wrote:FFS, winzor. Tell Doc even the lowly A-League put players' names on their shirts, or haven't you noticed?winzor wrote:Luckily, the Malaysians didn't have their names on their shirts...

Re: Will the FFA put players' names on their shirts?
Actually, it's a valid point and something I observed in the Greece v Croatia EURO qualifier the other night. Croatia did not have names on the back of their shirts either. I do find it a little strange because whilst many people can recognize the obvious names, there are many names we know because we have heard them at various times but sometimes you cannot put a face to the name. I guess they are only qualifiers and every team does have a name on the back of players shirts when those teams are playing in the finals of a particular tournament. For me, it's more of putting a "face to a name" than it is for "fashion" purposes so yes it is a little annoying/frustrating I guess. Just means you have to listen to the commentator a little more closely than normal but no huge issue, after all it's about the game

Some countries do it more than others. Depends on the apparel sponsor.
