Melo from Salisbury Villa has to be up there. Unfortunately injury kept him out most of this season but tough as nails when up and firing. Hopefully he'll be back fit next season because we miss definitely miss him when he's out. Special mention to our little Kiwi left back Joshy too. Rarely comes out second best physically in a one on one. Also, CB Jimmy from Adelaide Villa, old school tough, and Ang from Bosa, defying age and injury to have one of the best seasons I've seen him play.

Daniel Sabatino from the MA Hawks. Watched him many times when he played for Metro Stars and played against him a couple of times at Amateur level.

Scott Morrison... He would kick his grandma to the back seat of the MCG to get the ball before anyone else.

Duy Tran from Ingle Farm. The guy is like an energizer bunny, I remember my first game for the club we were sitting in the changerooms and he was putting his ankle weights on in preparation for the game!!

Alongside, it would have to be lucas zelka from Beograd. The guy just doesn't shut up! And don't even get me started with his fresh air swing "clearances" ...

From what I've seen in the Amateur League

Scott Morrison. - Tough, hard, good in the air and gives forwards no space
Arthur Dalkias (sp?) - Read the game better than anyone and rarely lost a tackle.

From a Farm point of view
Chris Ennis - A great reader of the game and unstopable in the air
Mario Staltari - probably the best foot skills of any defender.

Mentions to
Kaffers - Never gives up
Rick Hotka - No one has a good day when he is marking you
Huey Tran - The cult hero at the Farm. Has the pace to get back in front of you once you've beaten him. Probably the most down to earth guy in the world also.
Clarkey - Quick and tough
Squiddy - As good as his brother, determination like no other
Judge Judy - The most beautiful man ever to play in defence.

Mark Saunders or Andy Turner. They went on to play for gillingham and spurs respectively. Andy even got a couple of international caps.

from early 90's at Para Hills East we had Brad French Mark Elsey Rob Watkins and Stuarrt Foulkes these guys were the first picked week in week out as we were so hard to score against. Defenders I've played against must admit Scott Morrison was one that went through you to get the ball and sometimes the ball didn't need to be there

Not seen Chris play for some time, but back in his Comets days he would easily make this list.

Another guy at comets in those days would be John McCool - another who make that list.

He was a very competitive ,loved going into the box for corners, marshalled his defence well. However in that era there was also Bobby Smith from West Beach who I thought was the toughest defender I have played against. He always knew how to go in hard and fair, never seen him beaten in the aerial duels, very mobile for a big man,he just had a presence on the field. Loved watching when the State side had both Smith and Pitt as the Centre Backs.
