Mate I totally agree with you. Steve is the worse ref in the league besides that German ref we had against Florina who may Just pip him. atleast the German Ref didn't always come to the sideline and tell supporters to be quiet and watch the game like Steve has in a few games this year. He cant call the game consistant for both teams.
ahh yes Helmut is another control freak...im sure both guys are great blokes on a friday night at the pub having a few beers but as ref's they are lacking...they should take a leaf out of Tony's(dont know last name) book who said after a game a few weeks ago that if he didnt cop some stick from the crowd he didnt know why they bothered being supporters....its a passionate game and everyone gets a bit heated at times.....im sure even with your incident no one was going to cause him any harm...but when he calls the game off he dosent do himself any favours....what ever happened to sticks and stones.... good luck against the chain gang...i might even come and support 8)

"Best pitch in SA no excuses for the team that loses", you're having a laugh - what's the pitch got to do with it?

Gardens have a long proud history of success, they've beaten Pontians twice in the league this year, are back to back league champions, current cup holders and still on track to do the extremely rare double double and will more than likely be challenging next year to make it a threepeat.

The Pontians on the other hand have a short history of zero success, lost twice to the Gardens in the league this year, have never won diddly squat, have just had their best ever "flash in the pan" year, where they may just fluke runner-up and next year will be fighting relegation and more than likely disappearing back down the "S" bend to Divi 2.

Here's a better excuse for you - "We have been beaten by a better club and a much better team"

So are you saying that pitches have absolutly nothin to the way a team plays? mmm must b because you pay long ball

As for Pontians, one of the youngest clubs in div 1 and have been there for 4 years now and look to be on the improve. Next year is next year and we will see what happens then. As for now should be a good game and maybe you guys can sing that meatloaf song 2 out 3 aint bad next Sunday :)

mate you can't take a pot shot at a club that doesn't have the history or junior base that Gardnes does. Pontian are a good club with loyal and the arguably the 2nd most passionate supporters in the league. They have done well from being 5 mins away from relegation last year to being 2nd and cup semi finalists this year and that was all due to hard work and good coaching.

Wow another one hiding behind a username. Well done champ I applaud u for knowing who I am and me not giving a toss who you are. I've spoken with Brooksy via pm and I will also go out of my way at hindmarsh to say g'day for the fact that we've probably left it behind us.

As for my comments on the Pontian president I don't feel I said anything bad about him apart from I think at times he could keep his emotion in check.

The yellow jacket official should hang his head in shame also.

Whole thing could have been diffused if the yellow coated official showed some respect and kept his mouth shut and asked the supporter to move away from the line instead of further provoking the siuation.
ROBBO wrote:Next season, a club's supporters must be held accountable for garbage like this. Sunday's behaviour was completely avoidable.

Something like a 6-7 point deduction from the league, for abuse toward a referee, warn the crowd marshall first, if it persists, stop the game and deduct points. Hit them where it hurts.

All this garbage about a replay - Pontian don't deserve a replay unfortunately.

Ref cancels match after bash threats
LOCAL NEWS
31 AUG 11 @ 02:14PM BY KYM MORGAN

AN INVESTIGATION has been launched into crowd behaviour at a soccer match involving Ferryden Park club Pontian, following allegations a spectator threatened to “bash” the referee.

The referee called off the away game at Ingle Farm midway through the second half on Sunday, August 28, after allegedly receiving abuse from sections of Pontian supporters.

The incident followed the referee’s decision to send off Pontian’s goalkeeper for handling the ball outside the box.

One eyewitness told the Weekly Times Messenger a Pontian fan shouted to the referee: “Decisions like that get refs bashed and you’ll get yours at the end of the game.”

The incident - the second involving threats or violence towards referees at SA Amateur Soccer League matches this season - is being investigated by the league.

SA Amateur Soccer Referee Association president Andrew Leetham declined to comment on the specifics of the latest incident.

However, he was concerned by the risks to referees and called on the league to review umpire safety.

“It’s a concern that there have been more of these incidents happening than there have been in recent years, and I think we need to sit down with the amateur league, and the clubs, and identify what we need to do to ensure umpire safety,” Mr Leetham said.

“The referee involved was an experienced referee and wouldn’t have taken the action he did if he didn’t feel it was warranted.

“As a general rule, none of our members are expected to be placed in a position where they feel at risk.”

Pontian coach George Kargiotis declined to comment.

Ingle Farm coach Paul Simpson said his club’s spectators were not involved in the incident and he supported the referee’s decision to abandon the match, with scores tied at 1-1.

No one at the club is happy with the outcome, including coach players and president..... both clubs shook hands on the day, both were dissappointed and each will push for the best outcome for their club......Ultimately the SAASL will decide the outcome - it's unfortunate but can't change what happened nor do we condone it...I can honestly say at no point did I get the feeling that when the incident occurred or in the time after the game was called that thethe situation turn violent....Farm people who were there may care to comment....

sweeper03 wrote: It will be good for masos to win a game then you all might get over this thing called DUMMIE SPITS handy man, masos had people leave because certain supporters could not keep there mouth shut nearly fighting on side lines, getting a game called off absolute shamozel. a true club man left because of this, and yes I am no saint however there is a time when you have to realize when players are telling the supporters to shut the F(*&^ up and let us play the game 4 weeks in a row gets a bit too much to handle, at the end of the day i found it extremely hard to leave my mates and a damn good bunch of people but even I had enough people need to realize that people on the side line abusing refs only makes it harder for the people on the park actually doing something i:e playing the game.

This is the third game this season that i a aware of that he has called off. I was at one and the flack he copped was nothing more than is dished out every week at a sporting event. if it was a one off then fair enough but this guy is a repeat offender. Just because ref's are in shortage it dosent mean you need to put up with cowboys!
