Cost for juniors

Junior club soccer may appear to cost a lot, but comparing to other sports such as swimming where a half hour lesson costs upward of $15-00, once a week for a year, equates to $780-00.
Soccer time per week is over 6 hours, it teaches not only skills but team bonding, friendships, fitness, respect, loyalty and these things you cannot put a price on.
I hope that when the junior players "grow up" they will keep the good values taught during these years and develop into mature men.
I would rather pay these fees and have a child who is fit, happy and has lots of mates from soccer, than not pay and have one than runs off the rails, which is what can happen. All the child "experts" tell parents to keep kids in sporting teams.
I applaud the coaches and managers for their dedication, without them, there probably wouldnt be any junior teams...and if they can get even a little of "whatever" as payment, then good.

It has been mentioned as part of costs that some Junior coaches are getting paid, this surprises me.
Which Clubs pay their Junior Coaches, interested to know.

Most clubs pay their coaches I would think in some capacity.

Maybe a childs fees are covered.
Petrol money.
something.

Wonder if is too late to claim 8 and a half years back pay...........

some primary schools charge as low as $60.
so it's fantastic a kid has so many options he can go to some of the best clubs in adelaide and pay $800 or play for fun at school.

And some kids deserve to be in that system and it would be crazy for a parent to pay otherwise. Don't you think that the fees are an indication of the type of players these clubs are after?

Happy to pay $700 -$800 a year considering it cost me $150 a month to have my son swim for a club + pool entry + $9-$30 to compete per event + goggles ,flippers,racing suits up to $4000-$6000 a year. Junior fees are a bargain 34 weeks, 2training sessions a week, games on sunday, home & away strips, balls . your lucky to be paying $1-$2 an hour so stop whinning pay the fees & get on with life let the kids shine

Do all clubs charge the same fee for their JPL and JSL teams?

No right or wrong answer for this one as it depends on the opportunites available (movement between A and B teams based on performance) and whether the standard of coaching is comparable across both teams. However, if teams are locked in with no chance of playing your way into the JPL team and there was a significant difference in the calibre of coaching, poorer traning area/facilities then it would be hard to justify the same fee for the JSL team.

For what it is worth, my own research over the last 10 years has proven the following:

Do most clubs make a profit from Junior fees to help subsidise seniors? - Yes.

Are the fees paid for Junior Soccer reasonable value? - Yes - Even at $700 per year you get about $100 worth of equipment/clothing, so you pay about $600 for abt 200 hours of training/games etc - that is $3 per hour. Hard to argue that it is not good value.

What chance has little Johnny got of "making it"? Statistically, little Johnny has only a miniscule chance of making a meaningful career out of Soccer. On average, there have been only about 2 South Australian boys from each age year who have gone on and made a decent career out of Soccer. Yes, there might be 5 or 6 who get an A-League contract, but most of these are on a minimum wage and last less than 3 years.

Will this same subject be raised many more times in the future? Yes.

junior fees are high but they are reasonable compared to the alternative my son who is only 17 pays $19 per fortnight for the gym and gets ZERO except the use of the equipment so in comparison fees are reasonable.
