West Ham steal Neill
Liverpool was widely thought to have been the wantaway Blackburn defender's destination, but on Wednesday night he agreed terms on a lucrative contract with The Hammers.
Alan Curbishley is desperate to strengthen his team for their fight against relegation and has offered attractive terms to Neill, though The Hammers are reported still to be negotiating with Rovers.
"Lucas has agreed terms on a two-and-a-half year deal with West Ham and is looking forward to the challenge ahead," Neill's agent Peter Harrison is quoted in The Times.
Neill's decision to choose The Hammers over Liverpool will exasperate Reds boss Rafa Benitez who hinted for the first time on Wednesday that a deal for Neill had hit a stumbling block
very surprised... thought pool woulda got him, but obv they didnt want him enuff

It is interesting... i get the majority of my football news (no pun intended) from http://www.soccernet.com (ESPN Website) they have all the latest transfers.
Now i'm not saying theworldgame.com.au is incorrect but i'm saying it is interesting that soccernet DONT have an article on this very bizarre transfer considering there have been loads of articles of speculation on NEills move to LFC.
I wont accept it until it is on soccernet.

Lucas Neill chooses West Ham
Thursday Jan 18 21:39 AEDT
Lucas Neill has agreed terms with West Ham, with the east London club pinching him from under the nose of Liverpool with a rich salary offer.
The Socceroo defender will sign with West Ham, pending Blackburn's acceptance of a STG1.5 million pound ($A3.76 million) transfer payment.
"Lucas has agreed terms on a two and a half year deal with West Ham and is looking forward to the challenge ahead," his agent Peter Harrison said (eds The Times).
The deal was reportedly worth STG50,000 pounds ($A125,486) per week.
Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez was left to wonder at Neill's decision to forego Champions League football with Liverpool and instead enter a relegation scrap with West Ham.
Neill's contract will reportedly have an escape clause should West Ham fail to avoid the drop.
Reports said the Socceroo defender had the standard medical tests for West Ham on Wednesday evening.
The only hurdle to the deal going through was the attitude of Neill's current club Blackburn.
Rovers had agreed a deal with Liverpool that would have seen Liverpool full back Stephen Warnock join as part of the Neill deal.
However Neill's preference for West Ham's rich offer meant Rovers will be short of full-back coverage, and the club may delay releasing the Australian until they can find it.
Neill arrived at Blackburn in 2001 from Millwall and has made over 200 appearances for the Lancashire club.

I said it whent he world cup was one, he is a hack! and I'll say it again, he is a hack, only difference is everyone thinks he has a skill and is quality now.... hes a glorified hack now watch him scramble for a new club next season when the massive club of West Ham get relegated.... and all that self-righteous crap after he cost you guys an improbable victory against the mighty Azzuri, wat a joke
called an opinion. wc has nothing to do with.Sir Shearer #9 wrote:I agree Sparts, why is everyone having a go at the future socceroo captain when he played his heart out in the WC? IMO he's an Aussie hero and we should respect his decision, although some may not have made the same choice.
pool needed him, he would have played.
I was speaking to Englishmen on another forum, they agree that he is a hack. Never really rated him.LFTWNG11 wrote:I said it whent he world cup was one, he is a hack! and I'll say it again, he is a hack, only difference is everyone thinks he has a skill and is quality now.... hes a glorified hack now watch him scramble for a new club next season when the massive club of West Ham get relegated.... and all that self-righteous crap after he cost you guys an improbable victory against the mighty Azzuri, wat a joke
yeh best not get into that... cos u will look stupid.sparts wrote:he cost us the cup??? im not even going to go there leftie! maybe he thinks liverpool are gay or something i dont know, maybe rafa was offering next to nothing, surely if he wanted him that bad he would of got him!
yea i didnt know liverpool is a homesexual club, can u name any other homosexual clubs? which clubs are bisexual sparts? just out of interest, cos i never knew football clubs had sexual preferences.
obviously rafa didn't want him that bad, anything more than we were offering would have been a waste... I read what he gets paid at WEst Ham will put him in the earning bracket as Cannavaro, Puyol etc etc, that is a big fkn joke if i ever heard one! If West Ham want to lose moeny on aplayer who wont stop them from drop, then so be it. Its just I rememeber after Lucas's courageous performance at the world cup, as well as recently, Barcelona, Real Madrid, clubs in Italy, all the big clubs in ENgland were after him... wat a crock, he's ended up at second to last West Ham united on an inflate wage.... wat an aussie hero!
he had a great world cup however he is only a "good" player in the EPL at best. i still like the bloke for what he did for us aussies. all the best at west ham, hope they stay upLFTWNG11 wrote:yeh best not get into that... cos u will look stupid.sparts wrote:he cost us the cup??? im not even going to go there leftie! maybe he thinks liverpool are gay or something i dont know, maybe rafa was offering next to nothing, surely if he wanted him that bad he would of got him!
