NDR's United Match Preview: United vs. Arsenal

Post by Nick_Del_Rio »

Please take note that the following review will have perspectives from both sides of the border. Im a united fan, but i will make these previews and reviews very fair. The review will have previews of my thoughts on line-ups, weak links, top players and an overall prediction. Please take your time to read the preview and feel free to post a comment, but make it related to the topic, and try not to flame peoples comments, be nice and enjoy the preview.

MANCHESTER UNITED

Line-Up w/Reasoning

De Gea
Smalling -- Jones -- Evans -- Evra
Nani -- Anderson -- Cleverly -- Young
Hernandez -- Rooney

Substitutes:
Lindergaard
Vidic (if fit)
Park
Carrick
Fabio/Rafael
Berbatov
Welbeck

Reasoning
Ohk, so you might notice here that i have pretty much stuck with the same line-up, but there is one change i just wanted to go over. Now remember, this is just my opinion, im not a genuis like Fergie is. Now to my point.. I have decided that i think Chicharito should start over Welbeck. I think Danny received alot of praise over the past few days which i believe will give him a little too much pressure, and make him think he can go out there and waltz to another good performance. Lets remember that this is Arsenal, and wether or not they have a weakened team or not, they are still dangerous. I also think that's a good idea to give Chicharito a start so he get that concussion he suffered out of his mind, get him free of that incident and allow him to get back to full fitness. It is the perfect time to do this as they are coming of a great win over Spurs and Arsenal aren't playing too well. Chich can always perform when we need him too also. This is another reason why i wouldn't start Danny. I believe it's too big of a game for him to play in, as a win here for united could well and truly put Arsene Wengers men out of the title race. Now that's a very early call, but it isn't looking good for the Gunners.

Player Performance & Expectation w/Reasoning

Huge Impact Players
Wayne Rooney
Cleverly
Evra
De Gea

Minor Impact Players
Hernandez
Young

Reasoning
With the huge impact players, I really think the majority of that list actually WILL make an impact on the pitch. First off, Wayne Rooney. He always makes an impact, and im confident he will score a goal or two just because he loves to score, and he is a different person this season. He doesn't get frustrated anymore and he is loving his football at united. Second, Tom Cleverly. He i think will have a massive day agains't Arsenal. I see him dictating play and taking off some of the pressure that Anderson could withstand this Sunday. Next up is Patrice Evra. Now, iv'e seen numerous threads being posted here on the MUFC Discussion Boards, all with a topic relating to criticism diverted towards Evra. I feel that this is very unfair to the lad, and i think he will come out with a massive display off brilliance on the fact that his performance haven't been great the past few games, even though they've still been alright. I hope he comes out and proves alot of you wrong that he actually hasn't been playing as bad as some of you make it seem like. Finally, a suprise addition is David De Gea. This may come as a shock to all of you, but i really think he will step up agains't the big guns, like Arsenal. I see him pulling off a few saves here and there, or he might just get through the game safely, without doing anything overly shaky and supporter worrying.

Next up are the minor impact players. The main one to note is Ashley Young here because he has made two major impacts and one minor one in the first 3 televised games this year. The community shield, he was brilliant. Agains't West Brom he was terrific, but he wasn't at his best agains't Tottenham. I see him putting another good performance, but just around the same as the one agains't Spurs, maybe a little more from him. Don't get me wrong, he is one of my new favourite players in the side, and id love to see him prove me wrong by quite a bit, but in my opinion, i dont see it happening. Finally, Chicharito. As i said earlier, he may make a small impact, but i just see Fergie playing him to give him some game time and just to get over his concussion injury.

ARSENAL FC

Line-Up w/Reasoning

Fabiaski
Jenkinson -- Vermaelen -- Koscielny --Sagna
Wallcott -- Ramsey -- Rosicky -- Arshavin
Gervinho -- Van Persie

Substitutes:
Szczesny
Campbell
Traore
Eastmond
Lansbury
Chamakh
Bendtner

Reasoning
Now, as know, Arsenal have alot of players out, through injury and in one case.. a Red Card. Frimpong is out thanks to that red card agains't Liverpool. They are missing Diaby, Song, Squillaci, Djuouru, Almunia. But just remember, some of these players could be fit again for Sunday, and someone in my line-up could get injured. I have gone with Gervinho upfront with RVP, because i feel he was pretty good in their first matchup agains't Newcastle even though they only drew nil-all. I feel that he is at the moment, first choice over the Bendtner's and Chamakhs. In the middle, i would have Wilshere in there, and i cannot wait to see who prevails out of the Cleverly v Wilshere battle. Hopefully the result can answer some of those critics' questions. The back line.. well, is very beatable, but i wouldn't take it too lightly. We saw alot of Tottenham fans commenting on their forums saying that our back-line was extremely valnruable, but we still held them off quite well. United can't get to confident agains't this Arsenal back-line, because i really think Vermaelen is one of the best centre backs in the league, and one of my favourites for sure. I wouldn't get too confident agains't this really good Arsenal team.

Player Performance & Expectation w/Reasoning

Huge Impact Players
Van Persie
Vermaelen
Arshavin

Minor Impact Players
Gervinho
Wallcott

Reasoning
First off all, Robin Van Persie will aways be a major impact player. He will be everywhere on the park, and will prove tough to stop, but this backline of united, could prove tough for him to get past. Should be a good battle between the two. Next up is the centre back of Thomas Vermaelen. One of my favourite centre halves, who will be much harder than Gibbs to get past if he plays. But he will be valnruable at times. Finally, Arshavin, who i think will be out to prove a point to all of those who have been criticizing him all the time. I think he will put in a big performance and show the critics how he can perform and it's up to Smalling to repeat last weeks work rate again on Sunday.

Finally, the two minor impact players. First Gervinho.. Gervinho will be out to prove that the red card he suffered agains't Newcastle. Last is Theo Wallcott. Theo hasn't been playing at his best the past couple of games, and i feel he will make slight improvement agains't United, but perhaps not one that will make a significant enough one which leads me to my overall opinion.

OVERALL OPINION

Well, after a big preview, i have come to decide why and who i think will win this game. United have just beaten Tottenham by three goals to nil, where Arsenal lost at home to Liverpool by two goals to nil. Arsenal will have something to prove even with a weakened team, but i still feel United will be too strong for the Gunners. I see United winning this one, and i think that they can win by the same margin as they did agains't Tottenham, if not more. But i just don't see united going out there to go and scoring alot of goals. I see a 2-0 United win on Sunday, with Rooney and i honestly think Jones might snatch one from a header or something. I hope you enjoyed this preview, please feel free to leave a comment. I have put some time into this preview, and i will do the same for the review after the game. Thankyou.

- I know there were some mixed feelings after the review of lasts weeks game. But just because im a United fan, doesn't mean im not going to give an honest review/preview. Iv'e decided im just going to united games every week for those of you are interested, and they will be very fair and my total honest opinions.

pretty much agree with what u are saying .. I also think Chicharito should start over Wellback .. OK wellback did well against spurs, but he need more performance like this for me to lay some confident on him .. whereas chicharito - he has been our consistent goal scorer for last season .. i think he will score, if he's fit !!!

one thing i disagree is - YOUNG .. He will make a huge impact in this game.. he will tear arsenal defence apart ... also, i would start fletcher over anderson anyway !!!

First of all, ive done this out of my own knowledge. Secondly, if your going to flame and be idiots, go on another forum, and actually respect the efforts someones put into a thread. All you people ruin these forums for other people.

I think Arsenal are in trouble here. Might have done well in Italy, but I think United will convincingly beat Arsenal.

Why are you telling people to leave this forum? You're the new comer here and should maybe research a bit more before you write something that requires too much effort. You are right though.. Gervinho will make no contribution seeing as he isn't playing ;)

Tbh, that's probably one of the most sensible things Ronaldo07 has ever come out with. Young will give your mob a lot to think about.

not doubting young's ability, but "rip defence apart" a little much, he doesnt light up the pitch. he'll be one to keep an eye on but the gunners back line will moreso want to watch rooney, hes the one with the goals lately. wenger should play walcott on the left wing, smalling isnt the quickest player. a rather inexperienced/younger backline for united. will be an interesting game thats for sure!

I've always thought Smalling had a decent bit of pace about him..I could be wrong though. Tbh, I don't think Walcott is anything special at all. If you had any other options, he'd be lucky to have a spot in the side..

MANCHESTER UNITED

Line-Up w/Reasoning

De Gea

ARSENAL FC

Line-Up w/Reasoning

Fabiaski
Jenkinson -- Vermaelen -- Koscielny --Sagna
Wallcott -- Ramsey -- Rosicky -- Arshavin
Gervinho -- Van Persie

Substitutes:
Szczesny
Campbell
Traore
Eastmond
Lansbury
Chamakh
Bendtner

Reasoning
Now, as know, Arsenal have alot of players out, through injury and in one case.. a Red Card. Frimpong is out thanks to that red card agains't Liverpool.

I wonder...Would you still be saying 'great work' and 'well done mate' and whatnot had he been a Liverpool supporter and written these previews/reviews about Liverpool games?

one thing i disagree is - YOUNG .. He will make a huge impact in this game.. he will tear arsenal defence apart ... also, i would start fletcher over anderson anyway !!!
