I skimmed through the paper this morning (on a sidenote I would never buy The Advertiser) and just saw a news report on TV. There seems to be conflicting information but the damage is done now.

I agree with most of the previous (sensible) comments on ethnicity and football in South Australia. I also agree there is no easy answer.

Wow, I guess the culprit(s) must have migrated here, there is no way they could have been born in Australia...truly blown away by some posts.

So if a fight happens at a Irish Folk Dancing festival and is instigated by 3 Australian Citizens with Brazilian heritage (sorry to my Irish & Brazilian mates), the entire 'Irish and Brazilian' community should have to be:

a) chastised for their participation
b) made sure they fit in under the tougher immigration model you suggest

As stated before, this is NOT a race, immigration, ethnicity issue - this is about Cowards, fighting in numbers, when they should be playing Football and supporting their club on & off the pitch.

Every one is responsible for their own actions and should be held accountable for them. Every community has idiots in it, Every club has that 'idiot supporter', if you think 'tougher immigration' is the solution, well just wow.

So out of 10,000 plus Migrants/Refugees that come to Australia from all over the world each year, the percentage that causes trouble is - I'd say well below 0.5%

And if every day violence in the community is around 2% by all citizens, hmmm migrants/refugees must be the issue...and I strongly disagree with your statement!

The system is not perfect, I hope you do realise we live in a imperfect world. If a person has a prior record of violence/criminal activity, well then it is up to the Governemnt to either approve or deny their migration.

I am a computer programmer. I help people in my own time with their PC's if they need it also. I'm hardly Jesus Christ, but I wouldn't fuck the country up either.

We (here in Australia) do not have such a high rate of unemployment per area, we provide a better Social support structure, we do not have such a high number of illegal workers/migrants - so the comparison can not be made, the only thing that can be linked is the underlying racism, prejudice.

By that comparison, I should be supportive of the wan*ker skinheads who beat up my little cousin, put him in hospital few months back for having long hair, because they are "of my kind & race"????

I'm from England. Also, unemployment has immigration to thank, you can ask my mate Hawksey to back me on that. Due to the overwhelmingly large population, it is very difficult to get a higher education, and unskilled jobs are mainly filled by immigrants. As for not having illegal workers and migrants in Australia, I'm not so sure about that.

I'm sorry for all the fighting that Myself, mum & dad have caused....we will pack our bags tonight after 22 years and leave the place we call home. Even though we all work hard, have higher educations, do volunteer work, are not racist and are AUSTRALIANS - we will still leave!!!!

Can I please take my BBQ with me for the fond memories of Australia Day we have every year, we'd like to continue the tradition (maybe in Cuba or even Lybia now since their dictator is now gone)?

You should blame yourself and your ignorance for the fighting.. 99.9% of immigrants come here for a better life to put the trouble behind them and then they have to endure further abuse..
