Skillaroos 2012
Can someone please explain what is going on next year with the skillaroos.
Has it been confirmed that they will be competing in the leagues?
If so, obviously all players involved must quit their current club or the Skillaroos?
Does this mean they will go straight into the 'A' league, of that age group?
Does that also mean that only one team will be promoted from the league below those leagues?

next years U13 Skillarros will be playing in a Comp (U14?) and will be expected to not play for their club. Almost certain.
This years Skillaroos will be up for selection in a "State squad" in 2012, which is likely to play in a comp, these players will stay with their club. Less certain.

If that is what the FFSA have planned for Season 2012, it would be nice to keep their members informed, maybe even some consultation.

Parents players and current clubs are all aware of this?
Again does this mean that only one team from U/13B will be promoted?

Would this be at U15 level or U14, and once again does this mean that only one team would gain promotion from either or B leagues?
Not fair to tell a clubafter fighting to get promotion, oh by the way sorry not this year.
Not fair for all those boys that may have strong connections to clubs and have to choose either club or skillaroos, seems to me that the skillaroos team will not be the skillaroos team, do not see every player walking away from their club for Skillaroos, so at the end of the day what will it acheive?

Will it kill em?...talking about U12's here aren't we? Sooner that the FFSA does away with leagues and points until much later age group...sooner we might concentrate more on developing better football players....rather than promotion.

Guess the parents & players will have a choice....they'll need to consider where they're going to get the best knowledge and coaching .....for me it's an easy answer...can always go back to club....how many stay at one club anyway these days?

No, we are talking about U/14s as they play the U/13s up a year, to my understanding, so yeah U/12s this year which will be U/13 next year affecting the U/14 league for 2012. How about we drop 3 instead of only lifting one, I would love to hear a clubs view, any takers from Cove/Gawler and Comets because I can bet you anything those 3 clubs given an option would want to hold div 1 before div 2 so dont rant leagues points etc, anyway second div 2 team would prob compete better than a 3rd bottom finisher, isn't it about growing our leagues and making our game a strong competition. In this example imo dropping 3 would be better than lifting one, just my opinion.

Well I have spoken personally with some boys/parents from that team and they say no move, they get the same coaching at their club if not better.

Whose to say they wont still promote 2 teams and have a 11 + bye comp like they have this year in U14s?stiring the porridge wrote:Can someone please explain what is going on next year with the skillaroos.

Exactly Mac, so many questions, I keep hearing it is set yet no one has any thing, clubs, players, parents, and prob the governing body have no idea. As I stated some of the parents/players have no idea that they are to leave or possibly leave their club etc so how on earth can the FFA even know what they do or don't have o even know if such a team is viable.Big Mac wrote:Whose to say they wont still promote 2 teams and have a 11 + bye comp like they have this year in U14s?stiring the porridge wrote:Can someone please explain what is going on next year with the skillaroos.

Don't want to fight it just want to understand it, as I'm sure many others do also, how can they make these decision when the players/parents have not even said yes.

Looks like stirring the porridge didnt read his handbook, and all 140 kids and parents called him to tell him they know nothing about what's happening ....
Seriously though, no one has to say yes to anything yet..... if you are one of the 16 or so players identified out of the 140ish, that's when the full details need to be explained, and that's when a decision needs to be made by the child and parent
If you say no, life goes on, and #17 gets asked, etc, etc ....

As a parent of a child in this team does one get to see whom said yes / no before deciding?

As Zjelko said, it is pretty clear what is happening moving forward in the STIC programme handout.
I have also found info on the FFSA website under Development & State Team programmes.
What DOES concern me is the fact that the Skillaroos Squad is not being picked till November!...most Club trials are held in late Sept/Oct.
How are Clubs going to cope if they lose 3,4,5 players from 1 team (it did happen) to the Skillaroos after they have picked their Club team?
Will clubs have to hold their U13 trials in mid November?
I would also ask the question if I were you, what is your Clubs philosophy on players moving to the Skillaroos for 1 year? Is that player guaranteed a spot
when he returns? Not a silly question to ask at a very strong Club.
Yes I agree not all players will take up the opportunity, but at the end of the day I believe you could pick any 16 out of the top 30 Kids and they would still be quality.
Its up to you whether you take advantage of the extended training and Summer programme games, but in fairness, at some stage your Zone Coach should probably be made aware if you dont want your Child considered for Skillaroos selection.

Re: Skillaroos 2012
Now I am not the sharpest tool in the shed but isnt the point of the skillaroos to develop identified players. Wouldnt a player develop more if they stayed and played with their clubs and also trained with the skillaroos and played mid weeks games with the skillaroos. I would have thought this way the players will be training 3 days a week with two games per week.
If they are only with the skillaroos then i assume it would only be like a normal club schedule of 2 trainings and one game.

I will ask the doubters a simple question....... what is the difference between making Skillaroos and making SASI ??
Same sort of programme isnt it, only the kids 2 or 3 years younger.....
I dont think there is that much negativity towards SASI and how it works, well not that I've read on here anyway........

Although I'm guessing it would be at least 3 night a week training with Skillaroos as it is now.
Under the current setup Skillaroos are probably training up to 4 night a week (inc. club) and playing 2 games.
Not sure why they are changing it really...maybe they dont want Club coaches influencing these Kids

Heat policy restrictions later in the year, Kids knowing they have a position secured early for the following season, collection of fees which fund the purchase of new equipment, organizing strips & bags etc., knowing how many teams each Club is going to enter for the following season etc etc, Clubs who are short on numbers can also use the extra time to sort out their teams and advertise etc..
Anyway as I said U13s trials may have to be held later at some Clubs.

I know, but why do we hold them that early ??Jeda wrote:Zeljko Jurin wrote:I asked the same question a few months back, and got a very sensible answer..........Why do clubs hold trials so early ?? How are Clubs going to cope if they lose 3,4,5 players from 1 team (it did happen) to the Skillaroos after they have picked their Club team?
Will clubs have to hold their U13 trials in mid November?
I would also ask the question if I were you, what is your Clubs philosophy on players moving to the Skillaroos for 1 year? Is that player guaranteed a spot
when he returns? Not a silly question to ask at a very strong Club.
As a club, I would be very proud if a player got selected into the Skillaroos, and would welcome them back with open arms if it didnt work out in a year or 2
I will ask the doubters a simple question....... what is the difference between making Skillaroos and making SASI ??
Same sort of programme isnt it, only the kids 2 or 3 years younger.....
I dont think there is that much negativity towards SASI and how it works, well not that I've read on here anyway........that's a intelligent & professional answer from the governing body
shows how the joint is run
how many years have clubs conducted trials at the same time each year
Since I've been involved with junior football for the last 5 years, they seem to be creeping up earlier and earlier as clubs try to get in before another club...........

-I dont know about other clubs, but our clubs fees dont need to be paid in full until the start of the season, only deposits to confirm spots after trials
-3 months isnt enough to organise strips etc ?? (We get our stips within 1-2 weeks, and then another 2 weeks to print)
-FFSA asks for final team numbers in Jan/Feb if I'm not mistaken

they hold them that early 'cause the clubs think by trialling early they will beat the other clubs to the 'best' players.....unbelieveable!!
'cause you know...we've gotta have the best U9's going around![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
